I'll agree from a wind drag point of view. However, if you're having a small amount of traction problem, lowering the tailgate puts some of the weight a little further from the rear end creating a small amount of more leverage to help the tires bite.
@pokesmot3475 your right man, it may help in a bigger truck but I never saw any drop in E.T. in my 78 El. As far as traction goes you would get more out of playing with tire pressure than letting the tailgate down.
You have a wood panel bed in this thing? Never seen that before and never even thought about it. Looks good and would like to do it to my 78.
