4x4? I think they would be snapping axles if this was a 4x4, it's AWD. 4x4 is for pickups. You don't use 4x4 on the dry pavement. I don't see this little Golf going in the mud. Cars have AWD with an extra center differential.

@derner90 Person cars? As opposed to non-person cars? I'm glad you don't work on my vehicles. A 4x4 truck has a transfer case in the center to engage the front axles, but not a differential, just front and rear differentials. That's why you don't drive it in 4x4 on the dry pavement because the wheels can't travel the different distances that they need to. An AWD vehicle has a front, center, and rear differential.

i sell vw's, having already been a corvette tech, im experienced with racing, and can tell you. the golfs, or rabbits are peppy, but the GTi's are very fast for what they are. the new GTi with the 2.0T is faster than my 1989 IROC-Z camaro with a 5.7L V8. if i wasnt such a diesel fiend id be looking to buy one.

So there you have a proven combo, that and im sure they weighed all the options and felt that this was what they needed for what they wanted to do.
