It remind's me of Charing Cross Station on the Jubilee Line on the year of 1999, Charing Cross on the Jubilee Line was Closed and was Never seen again. Although Charing Cross for the Jubilee Line is still open for Films, Advertisements and even play's. Befor on the year june 11th 1996, Jubilee line's motor is was loader than it is now
Did you know it is still used for reversing trains when they terminate at Green Park? The staff at Green Park detrain the train and the train goes to Charing Cross empty and reverses.
at the rate they work is going on the piccadilly line wont be upgraded until the 2020s, the jubilee resignalling is supposed to be finished by the end of this year but it wont be and the northern line resignalling might be finished by 2012.
to the person who was worried about the sounds changin they wont. the motors are still the same, at the moment the jubilee and northern line stock are running fully manually at 60% power. when ATO they will be running at full power, so the sounds will be the same except quicker. and you'll have to hang on tight like you do on the central line coz when they run on full power, they really take off.
8 short cars - Central, Metropolitan and Victoria lines.
7 long cars - Jubilee line.
7 short cars - Bakerloo line.
6 long cars - District, Northern and Piccadilly lines.
6 short cars - Circle, Hammersmith & City lines and District line (Edgware Road branch).
4 short cars - Waterloo & City line.
I put them in order of size, 7 short card and 6 short cars and 7 long cars and 8 short cars are roughly the same in legnth. An 8 car train is roughly 130m long.
Yeh exactly. But in 2009, the Victoria, District, Circle, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan Lines will receive new rolling stock. The Sub-Surface lines out of these (all except Victoria) are to get S stock, which will be 7 cars for Circle, District and Hammersmith and City Lines. The Metropolitan Line S Stock trains will have 8 cars. The Victoria Line will be getting trains called 2009 Stock. These will have 8 cars. I know they are the same but I think these the cars might be a bit longer.
the new victoria line stock is 2009 stock and has 8 short cars albeit slightly longer overall than the current victoria line '67 stock. the S stock is replacing the A, C & D stocks and the C stock replacements for the circle, H&C and the edgware road branch of the district will be 6 short cars, the D stock replacement for the rest of the district line will be 7 short cars and the A stock replacement will 8 short cars.
The S stock that will replace the C stock will be 7-car. Some platforms will have to be lengthened and selective door opening (SDO) will have to be used at others.
What I'm a bit worried about is that when the Jubilee Line switches to ATO next year, the sound of the trains may change slightly, which is a real problem for me as I really loe the sound the trains make.
fkfj16, FIY, the bumpy tracks are only from Stanmore to Green Park due to the age of the tracks. The new section from Green Park to Stratford is brilliant. :-)
I'm someone who likes the romance of travel, so when on a plane, I like it to be noisy, I like to be thrown back in my seat, I like to feel like i'm going somewhere! It's the same for trains, I like there to be an utter racket and to be bouncing all over the place, it's more fun! Smooth journeys is just like sitting at home... Do you know what I mean?!
Do you mean the delay between thw doors closing and the train starting to move? if so, yes, it was someone geting her bag shut in the door further down the platform behind me.
is it just me...or does it sound slightly different? I thought that the weird "crescendo" happens twice in a "gear-shift" manner....but I didn't notice a "gear shift" this time.
erm, i didn't noticed any difference in the departing sound. Maybe your impression is caused by the cameraman position (middle of the platform)near the trailer car. So the departing sound might not be as clear as the end of the platform.
Damn I love the sound these trains make!! :D

StapledNote 3 years ago 2
Funnily enough, underground systems aren't make for the fun of drivers. ATO carries more passengers, quicker, faster and more reliably.

Is it just me or do the trains sound like a child playing with a violin when they pull away, lol.
As to the length of carriages there is a limit to the lengths they can be due to the tight bends on some tubes.

Talk about bumpy tracks! All the other times you see a 1996 train depart you never here the bumping of the bogies to the tracks..

Does anybody think that the 96 stock sounds similar to a class 465 networker when departing?
Leetrainz 4 years ago 4
yes it kinda does
gavelex 4 years ago
It's got the same (or very similar to) GTO "Chopper" Control system 465/2's and 466's. Probably a few minor difference as they're slightly newer.
glenrea 3 years ago 3
@Leetrainz it also sounds like the 365's and the 323's (:
