i am using the nikon d3000 also.i bought it 2 months back and still new to it.i wanna know does d3000 support telephoto lenses?please kindly tell me asap.thank you
dealing with the same confusion myself. though only from picture quality point of view, canon 1000d will reproduce better pictures, that is what i understood by looking at the sample images from both the cameras.
I'm in the same vote as you... i am buying the D3000 I have tried the D60 and the EOS and in my opinion the Nikon is more user friendly. Totally up to you tho.
The SX10 is exceptionally good in bright daylight, and colour reproduction is accurate. Indoors it also performs well, although noise does creep into the images as the light dwindles. Some photos lack a little sharpness here and there, but the overall performance was great - including macro photography.
While we haven't yet lab-tested the D3000 our initial opinion is that it captures sharply defined images with little graininess - even in low light conditions. The colour reproduction under artificial light is a little inaccurate, and macro shots with the kit lens aren't terrific.
In general, the D3000 is likely to take better shots than the SX10 as the DSLR sensor is larger than that on the SX10; what's more the D3000 allows you to add lenses, which will improve the image no end
Manual mode is the ultimate experience for me, but my budget dosent allow me for a 450d, after all on imagaing-resouce(DOT)com and I found that Nikon's D3000 Vs canon's 450D sample comparision is very convincing for me to go for Nikon's new baby +)
The recording time limit is to do with the limit on the file size that can be recorded, so it is probably still the same. Other cameras record over multiple files to get around this.
Ever since they started releasing these entry level SLRs lots of wannabe carrying cheap slr and dont even know what aperture or shutter is, they shoot in auto mode with ISO1600, and pretend as if they know what they're doing. Even better, some of them buy higher end SLRs just to show off their gadget, they talk about fps, magnesium body bla bla bla and ended up making badly exposed and composed picture, forgetting the art of making a picture. Stick with snap-shot point-n-shoot will ya?
Funny the microphone is plugged into the av port not the microphone port :-)

I think it was a Rode Videomic

Minor note: it's not the AVI format that limits the video to 5min but the filesize on FAT32 formatted memory cards (4Gb).
