Good thing i didn't apply to SDSU.... Their music program is obviously reeeeally bad. unless this is them sight reading and it's the lower band... but i sight read this last night and we did better than this..... sigh*
I played this song in high school back in the late 90s. This song was randomly stuck in my head today. I miss the good ol' days :) This has an awesome clarinet (the instrument I played) part :)
My high school band (Christian Brothers, Memphis TN) played it about 44 years ago. I believe it was the first standing ovation they ever had at an all-state band contest and these were educators applauding. Heck of an experience.
Good critical reviews of performances, reviews written by those with tutored ears & tutored minds add to the joy of listening. Such reviews enhance both the intellectual and asthetic experience of music appreciation. The three reviews below fail in all these regards. The upper woodwinds were outstanding & intonation was near perfect. The ensemble was well balanced, the interpretation was energetic and delightful, evidence of Prof. Warman's experience & talent in rehearsing young musicians.
I was honestly displeased. There were many mistakes. Ive heard better. Im sure they are individually fantastic but this didnt seem well rehearsed. E for Effort but..=\ Sorry guys.
Interesting interpretation. Slower in some spots that I have heard and faster in others. I do like the varied tempo changes. A few intonation issues in the upper clarinets. I would have liked to hear some of the solo parts..6:30 in the oboe played a little slower
Ty for posting! Played this in SDSU Wind Symphony my very first semester, flute, ahem years ago... Loved hearing again! I'd recognize Mr. Warman's conducting anywhere :)
This was a performance? How embarassing!

I agree. It comes of sound not well rehearsed. Some serious intonation issues in the upper woodwinds

University? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they've performed better.

I feel like they are great individual players, but in some spots, they don't fit well together.
