hey i have cut the perf metal from the metal casing put a 5v fan on the smaller heatsink linked it to the usb port for power and got a 4 usb port inside my xbox each with an 8gb flash card so my xbox has a 32 gb internal memory and a 250gb external memory plus a 12 v fan on back with led's a wind tunnel with led's led's down the side giving off plenty of light from the cut out casing and a hand cut out design of an african grey parrot that lights up in the casing
Come see my video Fan shroud modification the best mod you can do! This is my personal idea and works like a charm! for keeping equal air flow going throe the GPU and CPU.
ey, how i know if my x-clamps are gunna break or whatever? can i buy new ones? or what? cuz i wanna keep my xbox around till, well, till another xbox commes out.
where did you but the mesh from? please tell me, im not goin to use it on a 360, im using it for somthing else but that looks like what i need. is that mesh pretty rigid? or does it bend easily?
Or you can "stick" fans at the back of your 360 to put out more hot air (120mm recommended) and at the other side where it stands vertically to put in cool air. Then the cool air will be going out from the fans behind. The best cooling solution ever! My friend did that and he has his 360 over three years without re rings and bullshit!
Check to see if you have power to your drive. push the eject button. If it doesn't open you probably screwed up the board with a static shock. You should always have a static wrist band when you mess with this type of hardware.
you can get some cool looking replacement dvd drive case tops for 360's now.saves cutting them about like i did in the original xbox.would look great in your box .
the fan is blowing air in. i currently have it blowin towards the GPU. I channeled it towards the GPU with a small piece of cereal box type cardboard, its held by two small screws that i drill on the side of inner metal case and sides of fan.
i made a template of the holes with a sheet of wood about a 1/4 inch thick (in video at 0:26 next to crazy glue) and just worked it to get that bubble effect out the holes.
I finally finished modding the cooling on my X360 inspired by you!! It took bloody ages! Lol. I took everything apart and cut all the bits out that needed to be cut out. I then left everything cus I got sidetracked doing other stuff. I finally got round to finishing it off. I put in 3 mini blue LED fans, one large fan on the CPU heatsink and I drilled the chassis so that there is airflow to the underside if the motherboard. The chassis now looks more like a colander!!
I upped the voltage to 12v on the stock fans so they now run fast and I also installed 11 high luminecence blue LED's dotted around inside the box. I then modded the GPU heatsink by cutting out card to sit over the heatsink and taping it over it so that air is drawn over the fins of the sink. There is a fan header on the motherboard infront of the CPU heatsink that I utilised so that you can hook in a pc fan directly onto the motherboard - requires some drilling and soldering.
Finally I sprayed all the casing and bits jet black and finished it off with a few coating of clear laquer. I also replaced the drive bezel with a chrome finish bezel. To bring things to a fine finish I seated the X360 on a laptop cooler so that the underside (which is also cut out and replaced with high strength steel mesh) gets cooling too. Its absolutely awesome when switched on in the dark!! THANK YOU 19chazz76 for the initial inspiration. I got the bug bad and did the full works!!! :-)
dust will always get in. with this mesh you can actually see if its dirty, then just pop the top off and give her a cleaning. Should be cleaned once a month at least.
Fantastic Mod. I'm in the process of modding my X360 inspired by your mod. I have traced out the lines on the top cover and I'll be cutting the holes via a drill and hack saw. I'll be using steel mesh grill. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi there, I've taken your advice and borrowed my workmates dremel type rotary tool. I'llbe getting busy today and doing the cutting work today. I'll install the fans when I've recieved them via mail. I think the hacksaw method would have been a bit messy! Thanks again. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers mate.
I modded my 360 like this, but it is much easier to find somewhere that has a CAM/CAD machine (schools tend to have them) and get SUPER precise holes.
I measured to my liking and traced with pencil. I used a quarter for the corners.Once done I cut with a routery tool (Dremel). The mesh used was from Walmart from a mesh folder holder in the school supply section.
