@chocotacosauce Well theres no way i can say Q or shape my tongue like that and do it fast very uncomfortable and not natural. Ku works but but theres one nobody talks much about and thats doo-goo doo-goo as long as the tongue arches up toward the top of the mouth.
I have a top denture with three front teeth on it. Do you know if I will need to get implants to be a good trumpet player?
I recently picked up a trumpet just this last year and I just managed to double tongue on the trumpet for the first time ever yesterday. So that's what they mean't! Now I understand. I played a euphonium when I was a boy and I always ignored the tongueing altogether. It never made any sense to me.
Hey mr high note retard, go listen to some mellow Wynton, Miles, Dizzy and Boti and get a technique rather then blowing high notes out of your asshole like some Maynard wanna be. Dime a dozen high note loser with no style of his own.
@DeathIsSly ususally triple is learned before double for most folks or comes easier . remember te ka te ka te ka fast for triples. watch the vid on here of Nakariakov playing Hora Stacatto or Maurice Andre. Mind blowing! The Master now is Allen Vizzutti.
I just learned double tonguing for band festival this week. My teacher taught me this method, and at first it didn't work. It takes a lot of practice. Actually, what really got me was when I was describing something and I used the word, "subtler", pronounced, "sut-el-er". Say it fast and it the way your tongue moves around feels like double tonguing. That's what really coined it for me, at least.
The point of the "saying" Ka or Ku is to get your tongue in the position where it's supposed to be. When you say Ku or Ka the back of your tongue naturally goes to the roof of your mouth thus articulating a note. There is no right or wrong. Simply put, use whatever works for you.
i can say the taka but as soon as i play it in my mouth peice it doesint work and im playing lead in a song called heart of oak in my cadet band and its really hard
ugh...i can say taka (or teekee) extremely fast but when i get the mouthpiece on i cant do it at all and on top of it the pitch drops when i switch from ta to ka
when i double tongue...i start saying taka but it turns into daga.....its weird...were just learning this song in my schools concert band called gavorknas fanfare. its so hard to do..
hey, i've been playing trumpet for 6 years, i'm a junior in high school, and my range is to f above staff. can you email me some lip exercises that can increase my range and eventually enable me to achieve double G
ta ka works. the difference between the aah and the uuh sound is done with the lips, which are busy playing trumpet, so its gonna end up as ta ka anyways,
Don't listen to this guy or you will become confused. Tu Ku is only used for people who have a certain rare dental makeup and will limit almost EVERYONE in their ability to double tongue out of the staff
@yourbrassinstructor With all respect to you and your playing. Say Ta Ka and while you are saying it put the mouthpiece to your lips. I gurantee you that it will not work because your lips while naturally conform to the mouthpiece (pucker). That is why Arban stressed Tu Ku.
Haha...the Hummel. Nice lol I've been working on that part but instead of double tonguing i do that trill for the lower part. And if I'm completely wrong and the beginning wasn't the Hummel...then it sounded a lot like it lol.
Hey, thanks man. It takes a long time to learn, an after hearing from 5 different trumpet players, the International Trumpet Guild, Trumpet Studio, Chris Dolske, Francis Franqui, I agree with your technique.

The first piece, which is from the 3rd part of the Hummel Concert for trumpet, should (or is) be played with single tounguage...
