A young cownose ray has been born in the Ocenanium aquarium at Blijdorp zoo. As far as the zoo knows this is the first case of reproduction by cownose rays in Europe. There are a few cases reported from the US in part of these cases there were pregnant females captured from the wild.
The little ray (probably female) was born on 10 november 2010 but has only recently been visible to public. By now it has learned te eat out of the zookeepers hands which was important because thats

how cownose rays are fed at the zoo. Cownose rays are big but slowly eaters!
