Any Chumbawamba haters - please fuck off and leave this band alone. The music they play is technically very good even if you don't like the style (and yes, I think the same usually goes for Metallica from what I've heard). So what if they misunderstood what was said in the interview? Just think of the song as a protest against Guantanamo Bay and its real supporters and move on if you still don't like it. End of rant :)
Idiot. You really think folk shouldn't talk about other people unless they can beat them in a brawl?
And in any case, I aren't sure about Danbert, but I reckon Alice Nutter could nack Hetfield with one hand tied behind her back. There's more to hard than tattoos and weights.
I'm a blues fan. I don't know too much about Metallica but I know what I have herd is good music. These 'chumpster' guys are pathetic. They have no career and insult other people to try and gain popularity. Why do some has-been so called 'musicians' think that their opinions are more valid than other people.
Good luck. I'm waiting to hear your no1 album. While I wait I'll listen to some good music like the Stones, Beatles or Metallica!
I think this band had one hit after criticising the government at a 90's Brit award show. Well done, but now they seem to think they are the Sex Pistols and are still trying to use criticism to further their career. Good luck to them, but the Sex Pistols had good songs! Don't turn your criticism to Metallica. You've simply got it wrong.
@ofcrzy You don't get it, do you? First off, this is the kind of band that couldn't care less about economical success. and most importantly, it's humour.
I saw the clip. James was asked a really stupid question. He said he was glad they were using Metallica's music to keep the troops motivated. He didn't say any of they rubbish that is said here. Metallica are well known for writing anti war songs and keeping out of politics.
""If the Iraqis aren't used to freedom, then I'm glad to be part of their exposure," James Hetfield, co-founder of Metallica, has said. As for his music being torture, he laughed: "We've been punishing our parents, our wives, our loved ones with this music for ever. Why should the Iraqis be any different?""
guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jun/19/usa.guantanamo
That is clearly a reply to a question directly about torture.
In the interview James was actually asked a very ambiguous question. It seemed as if they were asking if it was OK for Metallica's music to be used to motivate the US troops. He was confused by the question (as I was when I watched the video). He did not make any of the statements that are claimed in this video.
@Moomoo8181 At first he said it was good that his music was used for torture, then when it caused bad press he changed his mind, "it is not good or bad it is a thing" How dumb can he be, not much, of course torture is bad, even more so having to listen to that dribble.
Love this song! To be fair, most metalheads aren't exactly rocket scientists and James should've maybe served his country and maybe had a POW experience or two before he ran his mouth. Same goes for Ted Nugent
I can see why this song was made, but it comes across as a handful of silly do gooders jumping on a bandwagon.
It's not like Metallica's music is being specifically made to torture people. The way in which Hetfield "supported" the use of torture was more in the way of a joke.
Saying that, some of the lyrics here are pretty funny, but songs like this are pointless and lack any passion.
@ThePeacefrog88 That's exactly how I feel. I've always liked Chumbawamba's music. Still do. They are brilliant writers. But they say the dumbest things. Of course they are complete anarchists so I doubt many people would agree with them, and I don't think they have ever cared if we do.
@DougHetfield Well, i don't think james would laugh on this whatever he may thing about it and its sad you admire somebody who supports torturing prisoners with music.

Oh my God. This was so funny I positively fell asleep. Who are these bunch of nerds making fun of Metallica's sound?!? James Hetfield has more talent in one hand than these idiots. People probably listen to this cos it's "different". Wake up. It's GAY. If it were intelligently cynical I wouldn't mind, but they fail on that level too. FFS.

Wise up he spoke about it several times:
""If the Iraqis aren't used to freedom, then I'm glad to be part of their exposure," James Hetfield, co-founder of Metallica, has said. As for his music being torture, he laughed: "We've been punishing our parents, our wives, our loved ones with this music for ever. Why should the Iraqis be any different?""

It has nothing to do with Metallica's music as such, just that James Hetfield advocated the use of his music in torture practice in Iraq.
WTF?

A surefire way to torture James Hetfield is to put money in front of him and tell him it's not his.
