Great job I've only been able to make a game like asteroids so far. Don't feel bad about putting too much time into it though because I know how you feel. Making games sucks you into it. Lol
Btw: if u know a good gm programing tutorial let me know because I only know drag and drop so far.
But, when i was making a 2d game with lots of hand crafted characters(not copied ones)
i just added a 16bit sort of style and limited the running animations to 4 frames for humans and 24fps for gigantic robots. This sounds cheap but its good for massive games.
Some developers do that too.
Or just download blender and copy the animation file.
@Sypran Yeah 16bit is cool, and early 32bit graphics are cool too, like Sega Saturn and psone. Anyway.... if your gonna do the less workload then, make it have style so some cynical A-hole(i am one of them) doesn't troll around.It puts a smile on everyone's face.
Also have you thought about animation render distance?
If a person is 2yards away then their animation is halved so the computer doesn't have to struggle?

@here57 Why thank you :) I coded him in with the draw functions in GM8, no other programs/files used. Otherwise I did draw him on a piece of graph paper then simply wrote the code based off the graphing lines.
His body moves with a bunch of transformations + rotations at variables starting with direction, then more rotations in the X and Y axis on other made up variables.
These variables were then controlled by large math equations, that now I look back at it could have been better optimized.

I am learning a few different programming languages right now, so i hope some better understanding of Javascript, GML, and C# (I already understand html, mostly) will let me make some good dll's to use with Game maker. Hope i can make heads or tail of GML. Where do you input the amount of frames the transformation should take?

I kinda just calculated how many degrees, the room speed (30), how fast I wanted the particular thing to happen, then came up with an equation that works. I'm not the most amazing programer. I'm just a guy who makes things that work for what I need em to do...
@MrRolo1995 mmk well in the projection coding make sure to have a variable like "Zjump" (added to Z1, and Z2). that way when you press a button those numbers go up. you can then create gravity in like the step event where if Zjump doesn't = 0 you go down like 2 or whatever squares a step. (actual gravity on earth is accelerating at 9.81 meters per sec)
@hodebry13 you need to edit some variables like if i recall RUL? they should be in the create event. edit them and parts of the body will move and rotate. I might try to make a better version if I have time
