Beck blows me away. Amazing technique, especially the right hand. The sounds he extracts from that Strat are otherworldly. I remember the original lineup on this song, including Jan Hammer on keys. Classic fusion.
Oh man, Jeff Beck's band is kick ass!! The drummer's godly, the bassist is groovy, the guy on keys is pretty awesome, and jeff is.......well, Jeff. One of my favorite instrumentals of all time.
Lately I have been returning to Utube so I can WATCH JB create his notes with techniques and his own motion .....etc. etc...... (always amazes me to hear the tones but not see his finger / string movement most mortals use to get similar sounds !) BUT freakin Vinnie is pounding some skins as great as EVER !
There's a lot of older Jeff Beck stuff (mostly in black and white) on youtube with the JB group, Rod Stewart, with Carmine Appice. I think he was incredibly good back then. For the most part I'm not a fan of his later stuff. Songs like Where Were You are amazing though. I think the turning point is when he abandoned using a pick in most of his playing. Just my opinion...
@AxisofJustice21 Well apparently i dont need to be smart to know how much crap this is, you Jeff Beck wannabe. And why not write your own music? Instead of just copying some old washed up guitarist and licks that are like 40 years old already. You're probably too dumb for that though. I bet you've never had to really work at anything in your life, your parents give you everything and you bitch out of any sort of serious confrontation cause you're a sheltered little pussy.

Not knocking guys like Morello, The Edge, etc., for they do cool stuff. But, listen to some of these videos where he is playing with people using effects. The sound is so much cleaner. It's like saying I can out-race Lance Armstrong on my Harley...

beck was awesome and surely deserve credit for a lot, but like many of the original rock legends like jimi, they have been surpassed in overall guitar talent by many- nothing can be taken way from these guys, but like in sports , humans are getting better physically and music is no different- songs were better in the 60's and 70's by far , but musicians are better now- way better- satriani and steve morse can run rings around jeff beck

But its not about who plays the fastest or whos more technically brilliant sometimes just the notes matter and sometimes too many notes dont mean shit but jeff is a guy whos notes have continuity and harmonize with everything he does.
dapunk...i agree with you- the point is that no one guy is "the best"- to say jeff beck is the greatest is fine, but it pure opinion.I was making that point-

Morse and Satch althoug good, haven't.
This was 2006? What the --- Does this man never age? I mean, he was in the Yardbirds for God's sake. That was in the late 1800's or thereabouts, wasn't it?
@wardka Was that sarcasm because if so, it's kinda funny, If not, Then I wanna slap you for thinking The Yardbirds were in the late 1800's, They were a 50's, 60's band.
Just a wild guess, this is in some country beside the U.S., where people have their heads even farther up there asses than we do. Whose the drummer? He cooks!!

Japan I believe...the drummer you ask of is the one Modern Drummer has voted as the best "all around" drummer numerous times. That would be Vinnie Colaiuta. He's lead the way for over 25 years now.
The man forces me to think. Reevaluate. Then I shut down. He makes other musicians reach. Does he have an equal? The guitar submits to his will. He gives me hope in music.
Beck loved Jimi. After Jimi died Beck said: "...there is nothing left to believe in this world now..." He plays "The Star Spangled Banner" at the end of this song. A tribute to Hendrix and America !! Beck is full class all the way. He should be fucking knighted !!

Beck and Sat are up their in the Magic house. both as good as each other. Music is not a competition (my licks a better than your licks)Music is exploration of the mind listened into through a musical instrument .
nah, look any vai / satriani influnce you hear is Beck being influenced by them. Listen back to Beck before Vai et al appeared and his style is nothing like this at all - not that he hasn't always been a good guitar player, but, unlike page [who said he tried to play like EVH and couldn't] Beck has kept up to date. Personally I like the mix of old school / new school that he plays these days.
The crowd is catatonic because Vinnie beat up Chuck Norris on stage just before the start the song.

They'd bow to Beck in his presence.

Amazing clip. Thanks for posting. Drummer himself is over the top, but JB is unbelievable.

This was 2006? What the --- Does this man never age? I mean, he was in the Yardbirds for God's sake. That was in the late 1800's or thereabouts, wasn't it?
wardka 3 years ago 25
@wardka Was that sarcasm because if so, it's kinda funny, If not, Then I wanna slap you for thinking The Yardbirds were in the late 1800's, They were a 50's, 60's band.
gunsandroses88 1 year ago
@wardka
the power of rock keeps him from aging.

jeff is awesome...and so is his band

He must have been an inspiration for Stevie Vai. Vai has got the same kind of untypical vibe.
uchotpl 3 years ago
Stvie was after Jeff Beck, he was at the 60s, and he was one of the top guitarist of that decade... But Jimi was at first at 60s...
LinkBulletBill 3 years ago
he meant Steve Vai listened to Jeff Beck's music for inspiration.

oops... :S I misread...

There is nothing like the trademarked sound of Jeff Beck. There is nothing like him nor there ever will be. He is Picasso on the Strat.

why is this comment minus 6?
sgdan143 3 years ago
because beck bashers love to piss off the beck worshipers. I personally am the latter.

I would rather listen to the soundtrack of "Snoopy on Ice" than listen to this crap.

The drummer is Vinnie Colaiuta.

it sings, it talks, it questions, it answers, IT SCREAMS, it cries, it lives, it dies, it flies to space, it flows with grace... it is JEFF BECK.

Mr. Mofo himself layin' it down hard! Long live Jeff Beck!

His guitar tone is one of my favorites... right next to Greg Howe's and Tom Morello's. Sweet stuff.

Don't even compare satch to beck! Beck was the 1st and broke ground with all his guitar innovations. Satch just copied them ala Japanese style.

Mr Jeff Beck can make his guitar talk.

DID JOE Satriani RIP this song off "SUMMER SONG" anyone????? Please I hear the same riff and major chords
macMajorD 4 years ago
nah, look any vai / satriani influnce you hear is Beck being influenced by them. Listen back to Beck before Vai et al appeared and his style is nothing like this at all - not that he hasn't always been a good guitar player, but, unlike page [who said he tried to play like EVH and couldn't] Beck has kept up to date. Personally I like the mix of old school / new school that he plays these days.
leahcim38 3 years ago
many guys are influenced by others- the guys from the 50's influenced the guys from the 60's and so on- credit goes for being original-
that doesn't make them "the best" there is no best in music- its about taste and opinion-
i enjoy jeff beck he is awesome, but give me the formula that makes him the best....there is none-
fezzappa 3 years ago 2
He doesn't play licks--he makes STATEMENTS!!
From 3:26 on it's lyrical heaven...!

"Star Spangled Banner" riff at the end !! Total tribute to Jeff's hero Jimi... Gotta love Beck. Total class.

Beck used very light strings at first, but Jimi called them sissy girl's strings, and from that moment on Beck has played with hevy strings.
