  • They cant write them like this anymore.Brilliant.

Thanks for posting this memorable classic.

  • TONY ORLANDO IS A LEGENDARY ROMANTIC SINGER. DAWN= GREAT TOO.

  • Bless You and Halfway to Paradise were the best from Tony.

  • @45garym You are right on.

  • Tony Orlando's first big hit. It went to #15 on the Top 40 charts and #5 in the United Kingdom. Tony Orlando and Dawn was my first concert. It was March 1976 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. The show was delayed due to an ankle injury to Joyce. They taped it up and toted her out and she had to sit on a stool for the entire show. But it was still a good concert, though.

  • takes me back to when life was fun

  • Fantastic song. Brings back so many pleasent memories........

  • He has a lot of soul...Remember the dick clark show?? The Man is still fine & can still Sang...Luv U Tony...Oh he has never been under rated....He's the bomb and a native nyer....like me

  • What a great song by Tony Orlando. So sweet and innocent. This song sure takes me back to those sweet days. I was 11 when this was popular and the music back then just made the world seem so sweet.

  • Lovely song!

  • Many years ago, I got on a plane at LAX for a flight to Maui. Sitting next to me was Tony Orlando. That was back in the day when United had a lounge upstairs. He and I went upstairs and talked all the way. He was impressed that I remembered this song and Halfway to Paradise. Very nice guy.

  • @anthonytorelli I hope that he remembered your songs too.. :O)

  • Bril song jt lv it, XLX

  • pre-Dawn

    bin there

  • love this song!

  • to the girl i met in the summer of 1961. she was from cannonsberg pa. bless you.

  • "Bless You" (1961) by Tony Orlando is one of the GREAT LOVE SONGS of all time. It is for for anyone who has ever given THANKS to Life . . . for the love of a true, loving companion.

  • Greating i love Tony Orlando music thanks

  • Carole King did not write this. She arranged & conducted. Barry Mann wrote it

  • @44Forty1 I know, It's written on the label?

  • Oh wow...this is good!!!!

  • Dowopper51: THANK YOU so much for posting this....I was 10 and just started listening to rock and roll with my new transistor radio (about the size of a cigaret pack - first time I heard it, I loved it! I used to just wait for the station to play it again and again. It brings back so many memories of my early teen years, and it still sounds as fresh and wonderful as the first time I heard it. It really is incredible!

  • @Christian06820 YES, golden memories! My 1st Transister my Mother got me was with S&H Green Stamps. A small white Zenith w/ gold grille. Orbisons Crying, Dion's Little Diane, so many were played on that radio in 62, I couldn't keep batteries in it, LOL. I was only 11 but the memories, wow! In 61 I would have been 10 but I didn't have the radio at the time when this was released. Anyway, glad it brings back memeories 4 U.

    BTW your very welcome!

  • @dowopper51 What a sweet story.!! And I mean that sincerely. I think I may have had that same transistor radio too.

  • This song, arrangement, or vocals couldn't be bettered! A CLASSIC track of the era!

  • In the late '70s I met Tony on a flight to Hawaii. We sat in the upstairs lounge and talked the whole way. He was pleased that I remembered Halfway to Paradise and Bless You. Very nice down to earth guy.

  • I don't know if Tony wrote this song but he sang it for his little sister who passed away very young. What a great song.

  • TONY ORLANDO STARRED IN A MOVIE..WHERE HE RAN A MARATHON FOR HIS DAUGHTER WHO HAD CANCER....DOES ANYONE KNOW THE TITLE TO THAT MOVIE....????

  • An early Mann and Weil triumph.

  • This is one of the best songs I have ever heard from the early 60s. I have been listening to oldies music since 1972 when I was 13 years old and I can't believe I never heard this song until a few years ago. I just love it. Did Tony ever sing this on American Bandstand? Thank you so much for posting it. Those late 50s early 60s songs are the best.

  • I haven't heard this superb song in years and years. Did Carole King really write this?

  • @billchew450 She didn't write it, she did arranged & conduct it though.

  • I luv this man.. he makes music as it should be

  • Love This ~ Thankyou :) xx

  • Reminds me of party,s in the early seventies when we used to gather in a friends house, get drunk and play his mums records - this was on of them.

  • Ahh the memories. Thanks for this xxx

  • Ahhh the memories. Thanks for this xxx

  • Ahh happiness and wonderful memories! Thanks for this xxx

  • bought this single when it first came out , still got it,cooool.

  • Brings back a flood memories...my very first 45rpm (at the age of 10). I had a schoolgirl crush and he also came from my neighborhood. Tony is a wonderful entertainer and humanitarian. Hoping to attend his show in a few weeks at a local theatre. For me this song and the flip side (Halfway to Paradise, another gem) will always remind me of my youth and a more innocent time. Thanks for posting, dowopper51.

  • @GIASIMBA I can relate to that so easily, many bring me back to that age, so many good memories!

    BTW your very welcome!

  • Ahhhh, Nothing like pre Dawn Tony !!

  • One of the best arrangements ever! Thanks for this great post!

  • @VinDcator I totally agree & your very welcome!

  • @dowopper51 Just keep 'em coming! You're great!

  • @dowopper51 :Thanks for this great posting. Tony is a total pro who still

sounds fantastic. Met him backstage at Caesar's last year. A more warm and

gracious human being, you will not find. Truly makes a special effort in his

performances and in his personal encounters. All class....great star!!!!!

  • @pamindoc I always liked him, you can tell he had/has a real nice sincere personality. Now & then I scan YT and watch many of the Tony & Dawn skits. I would love to see him on the next PBS Doowop show doing some of his early tunes, hmm! Thanks 4 your comment!

  • did phil spector produce this???

  • @coyotesong It really does sound like a Phil Spector song.

  • @Eyeputaspellonu: But it IS the Carol King infuence.......

  • Love Tony...

  • So happy this is posted. I was going to sing this in a talent show when I was 8 at elementary school. Brings back great memories.

  • Hit #8 on KEWB 910 AM in San Francisco.

  • i was sweet sixteen when this came out.always been my favourite.wish ihad a time machine.thjanks for memory.

  • I stumbled on this one by accident. I loved this song as a kid and all of these years later never realized that this Tony Orlando is the same Tony Orlando who was so famous later. Wow! Just never caught on . He's been around that long.

  • A gem, rarely heard any more these days. At 1:37, Tony looks like Paul Anka.

  • i grew up with this song, i had the 45 from my mom,s collection of 45,s that i used to listen to as a kid, God rest my Mom.s soul for showing me this beautiful music, she was my main inspiration to music, as much as i love heavy and psychedelic music you got to love the 50,s for making it all possible this is the truest of it all. God Bless you Mom..

  • beautiful lyrics..

and he was a handsome devil wasnt he..

    xxx

  • This is some kind of wonderful song as the Tymes might sing. I wish Tony would have never done the Dawn thing .. I never got that. This is powerful and moving and not kitsch.

  • 5*****

  • Magnificent...one of my all-time faves...five^

  • I didn't know of him before Dawn until I heard this and a few others, got to love it !

  • thanks doowopper....this is one of the great early 60s rock hits...and it still sounds completely terrific. very underrated in the whole rock canon.

  • This song is the reason I subscribed to you. I found it by mistake. Now I am having it played at my wedding in August. I had never heard it before I found it on youtube.

  • i remember hearing this song when i was very young. my sister played it constantly and i still love over 40 years later. brings back memories. thanks dewopper for the song

  • loooooove this i feel 16 again

  • ahhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!! Love pre Dawn Tony !!!!!

  • Love this. So soothing, and brings back

    good times in Jamaica, Queens.

    Thanks so much.

  • Still waiting for my honey to fall from the sky.Not gonna give up,then I'll be singing Bless You!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG. IT TAKES ME BACK.

  • the way i remember it. Tony wrote it for his sister who was ill and passed away very young

  • @lavozdos That can't be right, because the song was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

  • can't argue with you sweetee cause I don't know thats just the way I heard it some time ago

  • and i have no reason to doubt your knowledge thanks for the info

  • @Sweeteesweet1 You're right about the writers. I also made the same mistake. However... lavozdos is right about Tony's younger sister, who was born with severe handicaps, and died young. This was sung for her, because they loved each other very much. I have seen some rare biographical footage on TV(a few years back), with Tony playing with his sister, as the story describes their early struggles.Maybe "google" it, and find the bio. It is still one of the most moving songs I've ever heard sung

  • remember this from way back when i was at school.

still hits you right in the gut when it starts up,did some good stuff pre-dawn..

  • Tony was incrediby cute in those days YUM! What a great song.

  • Well, I'm a guy & a straight one, however I can comment on his talent. Yes, it's a great song, actually I love all his early tunes.

    BTW, thank you!

  • Simple ideas often the best. Good words, the best writers, great production--one of my all-time favorites!

  • One big YES!

    Thank you!

  • The voice of an angel. I had forgotten just how much I loved this song. My eyes are misty. Thanks for the memory.

  • Mmm, sure is sweet, your very welcome, enjoy!

  • smashing his only hit in britten thanks for posting

  • Your very welcome my friend!

  • His first hit in U.S. was "Halfway to Paradise", but I believe Billy Fury rushed it out in G.B. ahead of Tony's release.

  • ahhhhh, Tony at his best !!!!

    Thank you,

    ken

  • Tony did some really great tunes before Dawn. Strange, he never did an oldie come back.

    BTW Ken your welcome!

  • Is there any way to make this song longer??...Like 5 min...I have to play it 3 times , just to get almost enough...Great tune...

  • Send me a private note & I'll send you the song.

  • I meant Shake your Hand

  • This is tha Way I see Tony Orlando .

A REAL NICE GUY! He seems to be down to earth he looks like the type of guy who would shake your and act like you are old friends . He's a Fantastic Singer

  • sugaree9 - Well said we are all PEOPLE......

  • Well ,I am Indian,my Grandchildren are Mexican,my Nephew is Black, and I can go on...Actually I think we are all just "people". I agree to a degree with lexyk...Bless you, bless every breath that you take.....

  • Your very welcome Ken, enjoy!

  • I purchased this record with the jacket cover of Tony, When it was a hit, I believe I was about 13 yrs old then, Back then he was real cool.

But, Later IMO He turned into a real Flake, Especially when he was hanging out with the Late Freddie Prinze, No Lost there, He did the World and himself a Favor!

    Thanks for the Great Song!

  • Tony came full cycle. Read his book "Halfway to Paradise".

  • So What? Does that make any less of a singer...grow up!

  • First: If you do not like Tony Orlando, then why are you watching him and listening to him!!! I know for a fact that Tony Orlando is NOT bi-sexual!!! Where in theworld did you get your information!!! Tony has never came out and said he was bi-sexual...because he's NOT!!! This I know for a fact!!! I pick up some jealousy here!!! Tony Orlando is a very extraordinary entertainer and person!!! Why do you not like Tony, you do not know him personally, do you? I DO

  • If he hasn't already,it wouldn't be a bad idea if Tony Orlando had recorded the song in Spanish.

  • brilliant quality audio and wonderful video from sue

  • Bless you ,Doowapper51..One of my all time favs...I was 13 and in Philly at tge time..My my...

  • Thank you, Bless you too! Time does fly by. I remember buying some of these records when they were 1st released, hmm!

  • I took your advice about listening to Barry Mann's version of Bless You. I'm sorry to say that I have never heard that version so I guess it was Tony"s version I had known so many years ago. PS....I like Tony's better but that's just me....thanks again.

  • Mann and Weil wrote the song for Tony. He was a demo singer for their publisher, originally. Barry Mann was a pretty good singer, himself, but he was primarily a writer.

  • Couldn't agree more my friend! Still, I love Barry's style & his voice. Barry was a huge writer & producer, do you know if he is still active?

  • Here is a song that I knew I had heard before but I never associated it with Tony. I had always loved the song and had sung along many times years ago never really knowing the artist...Thank you again.

  • Your welcome! Actually, Barry Mann wrote this and also did a version very similar. I always wondered who copied who. I have the B. Mann version posted, give it a whirl, let me know what you think?

  • This is the greatest song this guy ever made. What a sound !!! It brings me back to the day.

  • Great, Tony's best.

  • AGREE! I loved his own uinque style, fantastic!

  • Agreed!
