Tony Orlando's first big hit. It went to #15 on the Top 40 charts and #5 in the United Kingdom. Tony Orlando and Dawn was my first concert. It was March 1976 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. The show was delayed due to an ankle injury to Joyce. They taped it up and toted her out and she had to sit on a stool for the entire show. But it was still a good concert, though.
He has a lot of soul...Remember the dick clark show?? The Man is still fine & can still Sang...Luv U Tony...Oh he has never been under rated....He's the bomb and a native nyer....like me
What a great song by Tony Orlando. So sweet and innocent. This song sure takes me back to those sweet days. I was 11 when this was popular and the music back then just made the world seem so sweet.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Many years ago, I got on a plane at LAX for a flight to Maui. Sitting next to me was Tony Orlando. That was back in the day when United had a lounge upstairs. He and I went upstairs and talked all the way. He was impressed that I remembered this song and Halfway to Paradise. Very nice guy.
"Bless You" (1961) by Tony Orlando is one of the GREAT LOVE SONGS of all time. It is for for anyone who has ever given THANKS to Life . . . for the love of a true, loving companion.
Dowopper51: THANK YOU so much for posting this....I was 10 and just started listening to rock and roll with my new transistor radio (about the size of a cigaret pack - first time I heard it, I loved it! I used to just wait for the station to play it again and again. It brings back so many memories of my early teen years, and it still sounds as fresh and wonderful as the first time I heard it. It really is incredible!
@Christian06820 YES, golden memories! My 1st Transister my Mother got me was with S&H Green Stamps. A small white Zenith w/ gold grille. Orbisons Crying, Dion's Little Diane, so many were played on that radio in 62, I couldn't keep batteries in it, LOL. I was only 11 but the memories, wow! In 61 I would have been 10 but I didn't have the radio at the time when this was released. Anyway, glad it brings back memeories 4 U.
In the late '70s I met Tony on a flight to Hawaii. We sat in the upstairs lounge and talked the whole way. He was pleased that I remembered Halfway to Paradise and Bless You. Very nice down to earth guy.
This is one of the best songs I have ever heard from the early 60s. I have been listening to oldies music since 1972 when I was 13 years old and I can't believe I never heard this song until a few years ago. I just love it. Did Tony ever sing this on American Bandstand? Thank you so much for posting it. Those late 50s early 60s songs are the best.
Brings back a flood memories...my very first 45rpm (at the age of 10). I had a schoolgirl crush and he also came from my neighborhood. Tony is a wonderful entertainer and humanitarian. Hoping to attend his show in a few weeks at a local theatre. For me this song and the flip side (Halfway to Paradise, another gem) will always remind me of my youth and a more innocent time. Thanks for posting, dowopper51.

I stumbled on this one by accident. I loved this song as a kid and all of these years later never realized that this Tony Orlando is the same Tony Orlando who was so famous later. Wow! Just never caught on . He's been around that long.
i grew up with this song, i had the 45 from my mom,s collection of 45,s that i used to listen to as a kid, God rest my Mom.s soul for showing me this beautiful music, she was my main inspiration to music, as much as i love heavy and psychedelic music you got to love the 50,s for making it all possible this is the truest of it all. God Bless you Mom..
This is some kind of wonderful song as the Tymes might sing. I wish Tony would have never done the Dawn thing .. I never got that. This is powerful and moving and not kitsch.
This song is the reason I subscribed to you. I found it by mistake. Now I am having it played at my wedding in August. I had never heard it before I found it on youtube.
i remember hearing this song when i was very young. my sister played it constantly and i still love over 40 years later. brings back memories. thanks dewopper for the song
@Sweeteesweet1 You're right about the writers. I also made the same mistake. However... lavozdos is right about Tony's younger sister, who was born with severe handicaps, and died young. This was sung for her, because they loved each other very much. I have seen some rare biographical footage on TV(a few years back), with Tony playing with his sister, as the story describes their early struggles.Maybe "google" it, and find the bio. It is still one of the most moving songs I've ever heard sung

I'll never read his book because I can't stand him, He's Bi-Sexual, That's a fact. He kept it quite for a no yrs and still does.
I'll leave it at that, I liked him back in the early Sixties when he kept it quite that he was half hispanic too. Not that I really care that he was, But, He did. And even though Freddie Prinze his buddy had a son, He was totally Gay!

I took your advice about listening to Barry Mann's version of Bless You. I'm sorry to say that I have never heard that version so I guess it was Tony"s version I had known so many years ago. PS....I like Tony's better but that's just me....thanks again.
Mann and Weil wrote the song for Tony. He was a demo singer for their publisher, originally. Barry Mann was a pretty good singer, himself, but he was primarily a writer.
Here is a song that I knew I had heard before but I never associated it with Tony. I had always loved the song and had sung along many times years ago never really knowing the artist...Thank you again.
