  • best song ever

  • awesome song- best ever from rem by mike- dang reminds me of how my grandmother made it clear not to throw anything of hers away, i cuttered their home, wish i could undo putting all her stuff in their home- its my fault

  • One of the best albums of all time!!!!

  • Just left Texarkana!

  • I will always adore Mike Mills!

  • memories...good times..I would have to take much more, i had great possibilities..patience, but sometimes i think of the past and listen to texarcana

  • I want AMERICA BACK!

  • I think this is what you call chorus effect. Mind = Blown.

  • This song reminds me of my CJ-7, cruising around with the top down, in high school. Trying to find a party. Yep, I'm old now. The 90's ruled.

  • I've always preferred this uplifting track to Shiny Happy People!

  • @lyonslaforet yepper..!!!!

  • this song is like a dream

  • This is a fantastic song.

  • RIP REM !! great tune from one of the greatest albums of all time !! loved all there stuff but for me ! out of time ! was the best !! they will go down in history as one of the greats no doubt !! gonna miss them !!

  • R.E.M were coming back from Heaven after giving God his monthly perfromance review when they were confronted by a beast resembling Barbara Streisand. They dispatched the creature with a slice of cake and a toothbrush. They then rendezvoused with Edward Khil, Gilgamesh, Aragon, Chuck Testa, Gaston and Jimmy Page and proceeded to decimate an army of emo vampires while piloting an X - Wing saving dozens of Kenyan orphans. The band eventually returned home and wrote this song.

  • @Polardj900CPCP Pls. let me taste what U're smokin'. :D

  • @szamif Alrighty then

  • MIke Mills: the Tobin Sprout of REM

  • @mePeaspank just bcuz you suck doesn't mean R.E.M sucks.

  • @mePeaspank

    lol u r so randum

  • -- a schlitz cheers at the manhatten to the vocalist -cheers mike -we will miss REM

  • Best tune off this record in my opinion.

  • @bassmanjoe You might be right!!!

  • mike kills with his voice...

  • September 21, 2011 - the day the '90s ended.

    Wait...

  • We want the 80's back, or early 90's.

  • i will always love u gazzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • damn i love the bass in this song XD R.E.M. FOREVER

  • Mike Mills should have sung lead on more of their songs.

  • this was always my favorite song from the album, but most people i knew at the time didn't respond similiarly

  • @discokidx1. This was also my favourite off Out of Time - so utterly mike mills, a lovely melody, layers of cascading music, edginess and harmony intertwined and the weirdest set of words. Perfect....

  • I think this is thei best song ever...relaxing, understandable and seems to talk to my heart and soul...i love it!

  • What happened to good bands like REM and The Police?? The 70s, 80s, and 90s had such good music! The Rolling Stones, Southern Culture On The Skids, The B52s, they were all such good bands!! We're going to torture our kids with music from Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez. We've taken these frickin disney stars and made them idols. NOW IS THAT RIGHT?!

  • @ImWrittenInTheStars I agree with most of what you said except 2 things. :-)

    1. B52's are shit.

    2. Justin Timberlake was a Disney star and he most definately does not suck.

  • @topgear1138 Okay, I did forget how great Justin Timberlake was and the B52s are a little out there, but i still like them.

  • True about the 70s and 90s but I have to disagree about the 80s the 2000s have been better than the 80s. There just hasn't been much good mainstream music but there is an overwhelming amount of great indie music.

  • @MrMusicboy5000 there were more pioneering bands in the 80's though, so the tendency is to side with that decade when it comes to indie music. e.g Swans, Big Black, R.E.M, Pixies, Cocteau Twins, Smiths, Dead Can Dance etc etc.

  • @MrMusicboy5000 You wouldn't have half the great indie music of today if it wasn't for 80's artists such as R.E.M., The Smiths, Pixies, Joy Division/New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, The Cult, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Church, Go-Betweens, Stones Roses, The Jesus and Mary Chain etc.

  • Yea well just wait till you see what all this indie music leads too in twenty years it's the same thing. Anyway there will never be a decade as good as the seventies were for music.

  • prefer IRS stuff but nothing this good when it came out (except Girlfriend)

  • DrizzitDarkwing, I'm a bit late to the party, but I love this and have a cassett in my car. Keeps me insane enough to get by.

Wasted chances, no one owns anything Drizzit.

  • Mike Mills sings on this one. If you research Mike Mills a bit, you might start wondering whether he's the true musical genius behind REM. Both his parents have musical backgrounds. I think back to 15 years ago when i was watching "Unplugged" on MTV. REM was playing and Mike Mills was singing this. A music major in my fraternity walked in and told us how Mills was the best singer in REM. Now I get it.

  • @toespam71 It's difficult to say with R.E.M. Mike Mills might give them that Beach Boys / Byrds flavour perhaps but, on the other hand, maybe it's someone else in the band who likes them and he just fulfils that part vocally the best. Peter Buck is regarded as the hard rocker and I certainly wouldn't be without that in R.E.M..'s output. But what about Bill Berry? He wrote Everybody Hurts, Man on the moon and Tongue. And Suspicion, after he left, sounds like a follow up to Tongue.

  • @toespam71

Agreed. I love how Mike's voice sounds around the 2:07 mark.

  • Out Of Time ... Kick Ass Album By A Kick Ass Group! 5 Stars

  • This song is one of REM's best kept secrets

  • i lived in the texarkana area when i was younger very briefly. it is the border of texas and arkansas ..this song kindof hits close to home

  • ha ive actually been to texarkana

  • WE WANT THE 90s BACK!

  • @MKDude600

I agree. It was a much better decade than the 80's or the 2000's.

  • Jeez if REM breaks up, Mike Mills can do it as a solo. I'd help if I was allowed

  • Cobain loved these guys so much! Even Vedder does.

  • to think a focking kitten got a million plays and this.... wait i forgot

  • I haven't heard this song in years!

  • This is playing on the radio right now.... Oh, the memories.....

  • Best song on Out Of Time

  • @AFirmKickInThePants i think every song on out of time is the best song!

  • @LordRassy I prefer their other albums, but usually every R.E.M. song on a given album is the best

  • fuckin a

  • My favorite song on this CD. Road trip music!

  • @showtime0824 that's exactly how i always thought of this song!

  • this song is classic R.E.M. reminds me of murmer or green

  • they have so many wonderful songs that some get lost in the shuffle. this is one of their deep cuts that no one ever references or thinks about, yet its better than 99% of songs that ever get released. they are true musical geniuses.

  • pretty cool song, i had not heard it in 20 years

  • mike mills the greatest person in the worldthere will ever be

  • Why didn't this jewel chart??? It coulda been a contender...it coulda been somethin'...'stead of a YT clip!

  • How is it that some bands can just tap into something pleasurable on both a conscious and subconscious level?

  • first R.E.M track i heard.

    i've not stopped listening since.

don't ask for favorites. they may change tomorrow.

  • first R.E.M i ever heard.

i've not stopped listening yet !!!!!!!!!!

  • I really need to find this album. I lost it this time last year. My favourite REM album

  • I can't believe 20 years has passed. I still feel like I'm 7 years old.

  • @legham777 me too and i am old and a musician as well this song is classic. i had the rare opportunity to meet Mike Mills and Michael Stipe in a roadside diner and they were good people. it was shortly after the D. Boon incident and were pretty bummed out. I think that was the green tour. still a fav in my collection!

  • This doesn't remind me of texarkana, but it does remind me of my younger days. I love this song.

  • I'm from Texarkana, TX....and yes, i do feel like I am 20,000 miles from an oasis.

  • Back in the time were R.E.M. was a pleasure to listen! Thanks!

  • if i was asked back in the days what music REM was I would belch this song - it was all combined the whole record was about

  • wow, i forgot how good this is....haven't listened to it in a decade. at their best an astonishing band.

  • 1 single douche bag

  • REM should make a music video as this is a great song

  • this is my favorite R.E.M song. I listened to it more than anything on the album.

  • i heart this song

  • I had this tape when i was in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1992. R.E.M. one of the great bands of all time. PERIOD

  • Great song, damn, my brother used to have this on tape, really was a great album overall, easily one of R.E.M.'s best to date. This song was definitely a highlight.

  • People laugh when i say:" Stipe, Buck,Mills and the drummer;))" is legendary. Oh , i hate this song.

  • Is there a videoclip of Texarkana?

  • @Rudeawakening333 Not sure. I'm fairly certain they never made a music video.

  • @Rudeawakening333 There's not an official video, no.

  • @amin1950 i kno it is cool i came from chicago thinking this would be a sucky town but it turned out to be just right

  • One of my very favorite of R.E.M, with Low Desert and Me in Honey. Every time I listen it I feel all right.

  • Texarkana my home town of time suckage. Beautiful lyrics............ Hey we do have beautiful land here. Just not beautiful people lol!

  • It was written in a motel room in Texarkana.

  • Einer der genialsen von Mike Mills gesungenen Songs!!! Herrlich!!!

  • The choral harmonies on this song and others on the album are just fantastic. On the same level as The Beach Boys, in my opinion.

  • Sommer, Sonne, Cabriolet incl. Sehnsucht 4

  • I love the progression from 20,000 to 40,000.

    Catch me if I fall.

  • best song on out of time

  • Do any of them still live in Athens, Georgia?

  • @thutchison68 Bill Berry, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe still reside in the area. Peter Buck moved to Seattle several years ago.

  • Im from texarkana as well but this song begs the question why did they call it texarkana?

  • @sloppigfilms It looks to me as a mixture between Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Alabama.

  • @aaronhendricks55 nope texas and arkansas

  • HAHAHAHA. This song makes me feel cool. I'm from Texarkana. <3

  • DUDE!!! I FREAKING LIVE THERE!!

Mi commuovo a sentirla. Grazie

  • Good un..

  • I live there, on the Texas side. Awesome song. :3

  • Great song that's very much worthy of a music video.

  • This song, like no other REM song except maybe Low or Near Wild Heaven, is like a time warp to 1992 college radio for me. i miss hearing the harmonies and atmospheric sound from that era.

  • @omgyesable hve u listend to their first record Murmur ? tome its kinda similar to thisone

  • @dededed59 chronic town was their 1st record

  • @miffy174 sorry i meant album

  • Definitely my favorite song on this album.

  • This is my favorite of all time. Miss the old REM. Miss great songwriting in general!

  • i miss the old upbeat R.E.M. ever since adventures in hi-fi i think it was, whatever followed monster, stopped me from buying any more new R.E.M records. Sorry, guys! Your old stuff was exponentially better, to wit, the current song.

  • I dunno, I think they definitely shaped up for Accelerate. And I liked Final Straw, although not much else from Around the Sun.

  • @qba5775 No, totally agreed. I was being sarcastic. Mike Mills is my music god and the reason I picked up a bass. :D

  • @foxkieran Mike mills is my idol i am 15 and i learned to play bass and guitar from from him inspiring me. At a talent show at school i covered a song R.E.M. covered called baby baby mike mills lead vocals. i played it on bass with my friend on acoustic.i introduced the name of the song and the band [ R.E.M.] and said i was playing it for her. and sang it exactly like mike. I can mimic his voice perfectly :}. the song is baby baby. i will show you the video attached below and worship him more :}

  • @abathens No, love is all around is better.
