  • Exellent!!!

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  • another to play the E chord would be to press the 4fret on G&C, leave the E open and press the 2nd fret on A, if you have big fingers

  • UkuleleMike, ur a GOD!!!

thanks for all your videos , i am a real amateur, and i can just understand your lessons... By the way, there's no ukulele teacher in lebanon, so ur a SAVIOR! :P

    Ukulelely, Muriele H.

  • Hey Mike, appreciate all the videos. My name's Liam and I picked up the uke a little less than a week ago. Your videos are incredibly useful, but I'm having a bit of trouble with strumming. I've watched your video on the four useful strums, but my straight shuffle never sounds right. The only one I have the hang of is the calypso. I know I haven't been playing for very long and practice makes perfect, but do you have any tips on how to tighten up my shuffle?

  • So, normally I hate this song, but this ukulele version is just too amazing to ignore. Thank you.

  • oh man i love your videos (:

  • Hi Mike,

I love the way you teach and have tried to find basic stuff you teach, i am a beginner and would love to improve my uke playing, i was wondering do you have dvd's that someone like myself can learn from? Thanks

  • LOL the video paused to load at 1:09 and Ukulele Mike was swearing at me!!

  • @JenniCanFly lol!

  • I can't straight shuffle!! I understand the notes, but i just got my ukulele yesterday!!

  • Niiice. :)

  • so sorry youtube gave you a hard time.

  • Hey Mike,

Love your work. I've watched loads of tutorials. Your's are the only ones that have me playing a whole song in a couple of minutes. And I PERFORM!

p.s.-Will we see your sixth graders on youtube? They must be what keeps you young.

  • Hey there Mike

I'm from New Zealand and have been going through alot of your lessons for a while now. I find your tutorials very easy to understand

I borrowed a ukulele but have bought my first ukulele a 6 string tenor

So am about to launch into the ukulele scene

    Please keep you lessons going

All the best from Kiwi Land

  • i do really like your lessons and would be very pleased about a tutorial of hey there delilah

  • is ok if i strum down with the flesh of my thumb and strum up with the nail of my thumb? using my finger is awkward for me.

  • thank yo so much! its perfect!!!

  • Mike, Thank you for posting the lessons. I have been playing the uke for 3 weeks now. Never played any instrument before. Have a strumming question. I know you said it is a straight shuffle strum. But it sounds different to me. Sounds like down up(hard) then down up (soft) then down up (hard) again. is that right or am I hearing things. Congrats to your 6th graders for learning in 15 minutes. Makes me feel really slow lol.

  • Mike, thanks for making things look easy. I have a question on the strumming technique. I am new to the uke as well as any instrument. I have been playing about 3 weeks now from watching your videos. I know you say you do a straight shuffle strum but what I hear sounds like down up (hard) down up (soft) then down hard again, or am I just hearing things? and to hear your 6th graders learned in 15 minutes makes me feel a little slow lol . Good for them.

  • @ronvalentine First off don't feel slow. His sixth graders have been playing all year after all. It is a straight shuffle strum. All that means is D-U-D-U ect. without the syncopation of swing shuffle-the spacing between strums

Anyways, he's simply emphasizing the 1st beat of every measure, or every 4 strums he's playing hard. It's close to what you said but instead of both the Down and Up being hard, it's just the down. Hope that helps. Send me message if you need more help- Mike's a busy guy

  • @JoeytheGrape thank you Joey it does help. I think also what throws me off is that I am using a concerto Uke that a friend let me barrow so it does not sound the same to my ear which I am partially deaf lol. My uke is tuned to standard GCEA. I did otice a lot of ukes have " white" strings. Does this make a difference in the maker of the string?

  • @ronvalentine They all sound quite similar so the size should not make too big of a difference. It could be that it's slightly out of tune (I had to rely on a tuner for my first few weeks of playing). The white strings are likely Aquila strings, which are some of the best (and fairly cheap) strings out there. You can try re-stringing it with Aquila strings but it's probably not worth it as you wouldn't hear the difference until your ear is tuned itself. Your uke probably already has good strings

  • Absolutely great. Thanks my grandkids asked if I could play this....now I can!

  • You are awesome Mike. Thanks for the lesson :-)

  • Hi Mike...after taking down your 2009 channel, I noticed nothing has come back up for the beach boys or your beach collection which included Kokomo. Did YouTube restrict the tunes for some reason? glad you've come back up with both your channels, which is quite enjoyable to play along with.......Ted

  • HEY Mike i love this SONG! but instead of swing shuffle.. is a down down up down up down strum alright? Also, I support you and ure wonderful channel all the way!!!

PS: Have you checked which of your videos were taken off due to copyright? Youtube rarely never takes down tutorial like videos and covers there are milliosn of videos up about that....... It just puzzles me why they would do such a horrible thing =)

  • @Timmymaka I don't use a "swing" shuffle. . . I use a "straight" shuffle. . . No syncopation. . . straight 8ths . . . and yes that will work too. . . In doing this lesson I didn't want to compicate it with a more complex strumming pattern. . . A simple straight shuffle works fine. It's impossible to tell what brought it down but I have reason to suspect its due to Warner Music Group. . . It's nearly impossible to determine which songs have some controlling interest held by WMG.

  • hey mike my name is gary from jersey i appreciate you teaching me ukulele. how bout dean martens nobody loves you.

  • @Getzrules Kinda looks like it but it's not. . . It's actually an Oscar Schmidt Electric OU6 . . . I also play and electric OU5 in some of my videos

  • thanks

  • super good job

  • Pachelbel's Canon FTW.

  • fantastic lesson, mike!

  • i love your humor

  • Thanks MixMastaMike!

  • @clarinetplayer4ever Tell me about it!!! . . . In this lesson I refer to numerous You Tube channels that actually post THE music video for this song and they are still up!!!!! . . . What's that all about? While I get taken down? Makes so little sense to me. . . Except that I know a lot of the channels are ad partners so You Tube makes money off of them

  • @MusicTeacher2010 You should be a partner.

  • But was the old channel taken off because of the songs?

Or could it be that it was because of some copyrighted images? (like Disney characters or so).

    Anyway....

I really enjoy your channel, which is very educational and ads free.

Mike, thank you for the great work!

  • That's how I play it! Makes the chorus easy to play.

  • Hey Ukulele Mike! Good Job with the song... but the song is called Hey Soul Sister by Train.

  • Thanks! I hear that on the radio, the stereo all the time. :)

  • Is "SISTERS OF SOUL" the song title or the group because I cant find anything that sounds like this?

BTW thank you mike for all your hard work, dont know where i'd be without you :-D

  • @tommyt687 he's just making up a new name for the song because of copyright stuff. you've heard this tune a million times on the radio, i'm sure.

  • @tommyt687

The song is Hey Soul Sister by Train

  • Good explaination, thanks.
