  • It's so easy to pick out the idiots that don't know shit about great guitar tone today. They trash Marshall, there's your idiot. Marshall has made a name for itself for over 50 years of ass kicking amps. Yet I actually read someone on here say the 800 (which wasn't around until the '80s) and the 2000s were the only good amps Marshall had. lol. Surely you jest moron. Ever heard of a little guy called the Plexi, among many others by Marshall?

  • @bandit7498 yeah I want a hand wired JTM45 or Plexi or hot rodded JMP :-)

  • @bandit7498 Yep, the Plexi is great. I like the 800 & the Vintage/Modern amps.

  • @bandit7498 exactly check out the videos of my DSL i have 2 in the second video i do gary moores Infinite sustain.

I love my DSL now, oce its tweaked with a od pedal. GREAT amp

  • is this originally marshall sound or u added something ? maybe a booster or something?

  • good sound men 5/5

  • i hear the TSL actually has a very modern metal tone to it

  • The DSL50 saturates at a lower volume, but even then it's still a little too loud for everyday playing & recording (I have kids now). Does Marshall still make that attenuator or voltage sink unit?...the one that goes between your head and your cabinet. I don't know how well those worked, but the idea was you could crank up your amp to get that hot tube roar, but the unit controlled the actual volume level going to the cabinet.

  • is there a big diferense between dsl 50 and dsl 100????

  • i got this amp today, i let it warm up and then i played through it. the clean channel sounded perfectly ok. but when i went to the crunch channel and turned up the gain it sounded terrible. and same with lead 1 and two it sounded like a cheap crappy solid state practice amp. it was not brand new but all the tubes had been replaced a year earlier. any ideas on how to fix this. i am using a relatively good quality cable so i dont know what is wrong. please help

  • @dan6896

i haven't played this amp but i am a big marshall fan.

    i have 2 jcm 800's and a jtm 45.

i have noticed that most of the newer marshalls at guitar center sound like shit though.

my advice is to spend the day at guitar center going through amps and find one you like, then trade yours in.

what are you used to playing?

does it really sound terrible or is it just different?

if you're not happy with it (and it can't be fixed) trade it in or sell it to someone who wants it.

  • did you use any pedals in this video ?

  • wow.. the drums are real?ezdrummer or what? also what mic/mics did u use? and where on the speaker did u place it/them?

  • @coreyfromtheband

I'm pretty sure that they're BetaMonkey Drum Loops.

  • is this just the raw marshal tone? or got some pedals in there to

  • Are you running any OD pedals in front of this??? Or is it the head's natural distortion?

  • jcm 800 2203kk, now that is a awesome amp for old school metal.

  • what cab is that>?

  • what do u feel in comparison with the crate powerblock u have there?

  • cool, buy a second one, rock the house

  • god i want one of these

  • I ask what do you play? Which band theme?

  • Comment removed

  • @metalmusiqcrzy ya this amp can get some pretty heavy distortion if you set the eq right also if you put another overdrive pedal before it, but you will probably want to try it out for yourself to see how it sounds to your ears.

  • good sound man!

  • amazing tone i have a dsl 100 and i love it!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Nice Slayer tone

  • thats exactly what i thought when he started riffing

  • and people say marshall isn't metal -_-

\M/arshall has been making good metal tones since....forever!!

  • Alot of people don't realize that a good amp is one that you don't need DS or OD pedal to drive the tubes. When you buy an amp...... just judge it by plugging guitar in only. This guy didn't boost his either and listen to it's balls! I can get thrash or Van Halen tone on mine and nice clean SRV tone.

  • DSL50 is an awsome amp. Very important to have fresh power amp tubes in it!!! When I first got mine, it had the original tubes in it. When I put new ones in, it made all the difference in the world! I can get any tone I want from this amp.

  • @Briman24 yeah me too!! ive got it used...with 2 power tubes fucked...then i retubed it...and :O

  • yeah mine sounds almost the same...ive used a shure sm58 4 cm to the left of the center of the cone...

  • i want this fucking sound

  • Great sound !!!

  • how to improve?

its perfect. don't fuck with it.

  • aint nothin that comes close to a marshall

  • what's setup?

  • oh my god ghosts!!!

  • how do we know this is real if you have amplitube videos??

  • this is a pretty pointless video... lol

  • how do we know this isnt fake?

  • We know its fake because the amp isn't on

  • haha lmao!!

  • Wtf is so funny?

  • -_- la guitare non plus n'est pas entrain d'être utilisée on appelle ça une photo

  • lol its a fucking picture you dumb ass, you can even see the flash of the camera on the amp.

  • idiot...

  • yup and the guitar is playing it by its self

  • your a fucking idiot

  • i was being sarcastic trash

  • yeah i know

  • Fucking retard.

    It's a picture.

  • Ok, what the fuck? No shit it's a picture, thats what ive been saying. Fuck off bitch.

  • awesome sound!

    Amp settings? Please!

  • That sounds cool.

  • i have a dsl 100. how did you get that type of tone? settings? what kind of speakers and tubes? thanks it sounds awesome!

  • what cabinet are you using dude?

  • 6L6's tubes will give you more low end crunch. Also jordanwhitney2006-you are the first person I have ever heard give the spider valve a good review! ARE YOU INSANE! The jcm2000 dsl isn't marshalls greatest amp,but it is still a nice amp, espesially for the cash.I cant spend 2 minutes on a spider valve. They are CRAP!

  • LIne 6 amp LOL

  • i've got a DSL50...it's a really great amp...and does give that authentic Marshall feel for those great sounds. So if the Lead channel is good for recreating high gain JCM900 and metal sounds...the crunch sound should be for the vintage Plexi sounds. But i can't seem to get a great sound out of the crunch channel. I've heard of the Voodoo mod which sounds good. But are there any simple ways of making a DSL50 sound better...maybe different valves?

  • I'm using KT 77 output valves i my dsl50.. Sounds good.

  • I've got a dsl 100 with svetlana winged c EL34s. It's got a few vintage mustards too.

I like it's cleans and slightly over driven sounds for open chord work, it mid to high gain is perfect for classic power chord crunch, but hate it for higher gain soloing sounds. Too honky in the mids, huge bass response but too loose and the overdrive response is fizzy and nasally.

    I don't know if I'll keep.

I bought a Catalinbread SCOD for it and that didn't help it either.

    Run though a Palmer PDI-03

  • nice dude

im thinking about getting one of these

  • I have the DSL 100 and I'm doing my best to sell the piece of shit. Even when I somehow find settings that produce a decent tone, it can't compete with the other amps in our jam space. This amp has put me off Marshall completely.

  • you must be joking.. that spidervalve is a load of dung, set gain or volume over 50% and your tone becomes a whirlwind of hum, buzz and everything else of the same shitty *quality* you can think of. this amp is good for bedroom use ONLY. i want to sell the 212 for 800$, i got the fbv express for it so 900$ for the 212 and the fbv.. any volunteers?

  • You don't like your amp to sound like it's full of bees?

  • that's a rhetorical question i recon

  • seriously, I went to the Guitar Center in Charlotte, wich is a huge place where you can crank an amp. the Valve didnt come close to the Solid state, and the Solid state was a joke infront of the Marshalls, even the MG series!

  • ive always thought marshalls had the most natural tone, if that makes any sense, like the truest. it took the guitar and just brought out the sounds of it, not covered it up. thats why i like them.

  • wow , nice thrash/death tone . what's your settings ?

  • i forgot the website but look for Kerry King amp settings, match it exactly, lower the mid by 2 or so. Sounds very similar to KK's sound

  • (i am tenebrae654789)

thanks a lot ! are you on the crunch channel ? or lead ? sounds awesome anyway . i'd like to have a 2000

  • obviously lead, crunch would sound horrible

  • crunch on this amp is great...

But it is on lead 2 chanel I think.

  • nice sound. wat r ure amp settings

  • Dude, your sound is great!! You've got it dialed in just right! Check out my DSL50 videos...I think i'm headed in the right direction with my settings!

  • thrish17, shut your mouth... That is your opinion, you can't just go around saying that Marshall's suck! I own 4 diffrent Marshall amps and a couple of other brands such as Fender, Vox... I am currently playing through a Marshall JCM 200 with a BOSS BD-2 blues driver and well, I like my amp. I also play metal, so I take the BD-2 out amd I put a MetalCore pedal to give the amp a richer metal tone. Saying that Marshall's suck won't prove anything you say, dumbass!

  • dude. every amp for it's own music. old school thrash without marshalls? now way!

by the way I don't know what music you're into but björn gelotte of in flames has got a brand new - guess what - marshall.

but I agree for tons of low end I wouldn'T recommend a marshall. but on the other hand I wouldn't recommend tons of low end ;)

  • Well said mate, I agree

  • true bro, but ive tried marshalls best models(plexi, jcm 800,jcm 900, jvm, Vintage modern,jcm2000 combo 50watt head and 100 watt head.) most of them i liked but didnt have to punch as the mesa boogie Mark IIC+ man that thing just blows every amp out of the water hands down.

  • @hoehlentroll69

I would, Low end > GREATNESS!

Just listen to At The Gates!!! My god..epic tone.

  • @hoehlentroll69 all about mids man, good on ya

  • hate to admit it but i agree

would have been a bit more tactful in saying that they aren't my cup of tea.

but tonally they are very one track

i mean yeh hendrix did amazing things with this

but now he would have moved on

can only think of 4 amps that i would buy anyway so.....

  • Marshalls have killer tone. Trust me... A Peavey is a bad copy of a goosed up Marshall.

  • @thrish17 kid your fucking dumb you no that the only difference between peavy and marshall is the name cause back in the day van halen use to use a marshall plexi and bback then there wasnt very much metal riffs of what you want to call it so van halen went to peavy and took the desine of the MARSHALL plexi and had peavy make a amp with destortion thats the only difference get your facts right before you start talking out your ass

  • @thrish17 Thats why u just buy a fuckin pedal....

  • @thrish17 mesas sound like motors. horrible amps. nothing packs it like a marshall.

  • @dollysinn marshalls are boring you have to tweak the hell out of them mesa's have alot more versatility. the only marshalls i liked were the jcm 800 and 2000. all of the rest sucks ass

  • @emoboi311

Honestly, if you think Marshalls are hard to tweak, then why do you love Mesa? Mesa's need to be even more fined tuned, ESPECIALLY the Mark V's and newer Dual/Triple rectos.

  • @themodernguitarist i had the shittiest marshall. marshall mg100 shitty ass amp. the best amp i ever owned because i never had anything was a vox ad15vt it had a tube.i played with a mesa boogie express i loved every note that came out.

  • Please tell me you are using a pedal to boost the signal because i have one of these heads, and i don't get gain anywhere close to that(and i'm running an esp viper w/ emgs, mesa 4x12 just like you)

  • Check out the FJA Marshall mods here on the tube, or a Keely DS1 for boosting your sound.

  • theres a thread on ultimate-guitar that has a bunch of sample settings. try searching marshall dsl and then look for the thread. also you could try these... presence 9, bass 6, mid 10, treble 10, lead 1, gain 8, master 3, reverb 1-2. you'll need to adjust slightly for the emgs cause i use passive

  • dude no offence coolcustomer31, but presence above 7-8 gets pretty raspy and fizzy, also treble at 10 would be be kinda harsh i would keep it around 7-8, mids lower to pack a bit of punch and bass 8 to make a fatter tone and gain what ever you would like.

    try that out bro.

  • i was just going off memory at the time. my settings are bass 10, mid 10, treble 7, presence 8, gain 8, reverb 1-2. i like the way it sounds

  • It might have to do with the guitar as well as the amp and any pedals in the signal path.

  • what are your setting's on the amp?

  • I don'T own this amp anymore. If I didn't post the settings in the comments I don't have them anymore

  • You should get a 1960A cab man, those sound amazing

  • the mesa sounds way better

  • Do pedals such as Big Muff sound better when put into valve amps??? or is that just a waste?

  • bad amps sound better with distortion pedals. but you can use od-pedals with good amps to raise the input level and compress some low mids --> nice

  • @tiddlywinks98712

anything sounds better through a valveamp!!

  • That is a great sound. Nice and tight with the perfect amount of gain. Good job!

  • brutal metal sound! great job.

  • thx man!

  • wow it sounds realy heavy! is it because of the mesa cab and the emg's?

  • thanks man. the cab does a lot to the sound!

  • Hey!

Wie hast du deine Drums Programmiert?

Wurde das von 'nem Drummer eingespielt oder ist das selber programmiert worden?

  • das sind komplette aufgenomme drums von beta monkey (double bass mania)

  • "Test" is kind of a redundant word coz it's not like it's going to fail \m/ \m/

  • what do you mean? do you think I'm supposed to care what you think of the word "test"? tell me I'm curious?

  • Maybe you should start by looking up 'humour' in a dictionary.

  • hmm.. no effects at all? it sounds clean, and sterile in a way i like, and has the low end i love to hear.. and i am looking for new amp.. perhaps a JCM2000 series will be the one (i was thinking of getting a JCM800 before)

  • get a jcm 900.

  • jcm 900 distortion isn't 100% valve.

  • how do u know that?

  • jcm 900 uses partly solid state in the distortion circuit. you can find that kind of info in mags and from amp technicians

  • Does the DSL?

  • 100% pure valve. But I'd recommend the new jvm. It's far more versatile

  • I already have the DSL, I was just making sure. I tried the JVM but I didn't like it, a bit to complicated - all the digital switching and so on just sort of ruins the essence of a good ol' valve amp - call me old fasioned. Anyway next I plan to get a Dual Rectifier.

  • if you live inside the usa try a 6505 (or bugera 6202) for europe try a engl fireball. both have the essence of a recto but sound better imho. just check them out before being the recto (which is also decent!!!)

  • not being buying ;)

  • Lol, I live in New Zealand where we pay double for everything music related.

  • ah the land of hobbits ;)

I would dream of double prices. in germany you pay 4 197,4848 US$ for a triple recto.

  • Shit dude, I'll just shut up then, I feel sorry for you...

    Lol, hobbits.

  • I had a 1990 JCM900 MKIII.....Sounded good but it only did AC/DC tones. Thats it. No cleans or nothing. Gay.

  • the 4100 model is the best and has great clean tones

  • no dude i have a jcm 2000 and its awesome but the 800 is better but u might have to throw a boost pedal on the 800 for some extra gain but the 800 has more crunch than the 2000 and a fuller sound.-hope that helpsbut reall nice jcm2000 settings if any one is wanting them is

    presence-6

    treble-4

    middle-5

    bass-10

    tone shift-0ff

    deep-on

    gain-10

    Lead2

  • keep in mind that a LOT comes from the mesa cab. with a common marshall 4x12 you don't get that low end.

  • Are you using a Boost or overdrive on here? Your tone sounds alot more smooth than mine! :S

  • hi there. no booster. you can hear the same settings with booster in another video from me.

  • hi, can i know your eq settings?

  • they're on the first page of the comments ;)

  • yer True man sounds like Slayer

  • Sounds groovy man you into Slayer? sounds like some of there riffs

  • fuckin slayer is the best!!!!!!

  • what cab r u using???

  • said it 2 comments ago man, it's a mesa boogie 4x12 with v30 loaded.

  • Hi er do you reckon this amp is loud enough to be played over drums in say a thrash/death/black metal band possibly?

  • it is loud enough. I played it for some years in a thrash band in the rehearsal room and at several gigs. you have to dial in a lot of mids though. but the dsl is quite good at cutting thru the band as it has a lot of high mids. some say it has too MUCH high mids. Actually I sold mine and will get a 6505.

    Cheers nils

  • did get a 6505. it rocks!

  • cheers for ur help dude, im waiting for a mesa to arrive atm instead tho :)

  • cheers for ur help dude, im waiting for a mesa to arrive atm instead tho :)

  • what cabinet are you using? What speakers are inside?

  • it's a mesa boogie rectifier 4x12. they have v30 speakers.

  • F***** AWESOME DUDE :D

  • yeah man!

The thing is a beast (and nice playing on your part as well)

was thinking of getting this and after hearing your demo, I can't wait

    thanks!

  • Mensch! Du hast das ja sehr sauber gemacht! Klingt gut. Gut gemacht!

  • danke ;)

  • Man - that is a raging tone. You make that thing roar dude! Nice rythm.

  • thanx man!

  • I was thinking of getting it, that vid has persuaded me, thanks buddy

  • Same here. Thanks for this vid dude.

  • awesome, I'll try those settings out when I get the chance:p Thanks man.

  • the dsl 50 and dsl 100 really are the best amps from marshall aren't they?

  • I prefer the jcm800 modded or boosted, like gary holt used it on tempo of the damned.

  • settings?

  • settings were: pres: 4, Treb: 7, middle: 8, bass: 5. kanal: lead 2, gain and master 8

from fx-send into daw. inside the daw I ran a box-simulation (mesa rectifier 4x12)

  • my fucking god! i never knew how well marshall had done!

  • great sound!

  • BEASTIE!

    I want. Now.
