  • I recently got a spatulata. I read about getting a peat moss mix with perlite, which seems the standard mix. However, I heard that peat moss was environmentally unsustainable and bad. Can I grow spatulata in long fiber sphagnum moss? I think the pot I got it in is using that right now.

  • @aloh86 Yes, they can grow very well in long-fibered sphagnum moss and are very adaptable. Peat moss is a non-renewable resource, but the problem is that people buy it from places like Lowes and home depot that sell it in 10+ gallon bags to people who want to use it in their yard, when they could easily supplement it with regular compost or dirt...but there's not much that can be done about it :/

  • cool . i just ordered one. How often do they catch flies on there own?

  • @Borderpc If you grow them outdoors, they're usually able to get a few gnats or other insects each day. But there can be more/less than this depending on the location/conditions.

Hope your plants do well for you! keep me posted.

  • @wht93civic Yes, I am- i try to make it over there whenever i have some free time.
