I bought you mail order / My plain wrapper baby / Your skin is like vinyl / The perfect companion / You float in my new pool / De luxe and delightful / Inflatable doll / My role is to serve you / Disposable darling / Can´t throw you away now / Immortal and life size / My breath is inside you / I´ll dress you up daily / And keep you till death sighs / Inflatable doll / Lover ungrateful / I blew up your body / But you blew my mind / Oh Those Heartaches /
@badlot2012 - you're right! sensual & dark, & creepy! love Jane's vocals on this! - think it adds other levels of meaning to The Roxy version which I love...but,, when she says "my breath is inside you.." Whoa ..
but the breath is that of the guy who inflated thedoll, thats the subtal point. Its not about male and female interaction. It's about loosing it in this plastic world, and love for a sex doll. When the doll speaks back you are f...ed
Being indifferent to Bryan Ferry /Roxy Music I am judging this on merits of this hearing it by iteslf(not compared to anything). I have to say I like it mainly for Jane's contribution with that cool English rose vocal mixed in with a bit of french accented sexiness/ smokey tone
I'm sorry, the original on "For Your Pleasure" can't be beat. The live version on "Viva!" is a great one as well, with excellent soloing and spooky violin lines
To all of the previous comments - all I can say is the original is still the best. Spooky, atmospheric, slightly threatening and totally brilliant. Nice try with the remix, but way, way too powderpuff. It's meant to be creepy, leave it be!
This is about a guy who is so f..cked and so out there that he has fallen totaly for this plastic doll he bought. The female voice here is so contra and out of sync with all it was originaly meant to be. This a Male song, any woman singing this does not understand it at all. I rest my case. Songs have meaning beyond their sound. they are a combination of sound and meaning. If either is messed with, no matter how good the resulting combination may seem, harmony is lost.
@BaalZobel It could also be sung exclusively by a female with a deadpan voice as ventriloquizing the male position, vis-a-vis the female "doll." But as a duet, you're right. Makes no sense. Especially for a reedy female voice.
Both versions are sooo Gooood. Hear this one the first time and must say Biggest thanks for uploading this!!! So interesting, this tune

I am very surprised by this version! Especially since I knew that Jane Birkin could sing this way, I always heard moaning with a thin voice!
I do not like this duo.

This song seems wholly unsuited to a male-female duet. It's for a solo male voice. The sound is not unpleasant but the point of it is lost.

the original is much more atmospheric and true to the subject matter. A female singing this is off beam.
