@dreamwisperer Hey, go electric. It's clean and not that expensive. Recently I build my own with electric configuration. Check out my video on YouTube. Search for peterlution.
good video, really long =P!!! I think the engine its just too big for the plane...but it sounds great, got to love four stroke engines, make new videos i will be specting them, good luck
@emiliomahias Actually the engine is not that big...during take off i had problems with the direction of the wind....the Cherokee took-off heading to a direction that was vertical to the direction of the wind....i know, bad decision....but the other guys where sitting at the wrong position so i had no choice....anyway, everything went ok....
I love the Saito engine too. I am amazed it kept running after the detach, but I'm not shocked because it is a great engine. You didn't miss a beat which is good piloting skill. I used some locker on my threads, but I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not. I could not tell it was a used engine as it ran real well. Looking forward to the next vid you make and I need to fly my Corsair and do a redemption flight video after the crash video. :-(
@FourFreshTires I thought of using some loc-tite ,type, glue on the muffler threads or wrap arround some tefflon.....but the muffler gets very very hot and maybe it will burn ? I will definately fly my Cherokee soon, but i must also test fly my P-36A....that big FA-180GK sounds mean!!! When did you crash your Corsair ; I feel sorry for you.....Ah and about your T-6....how good are the stock retract units ?
@dreamwisperer I think if you use loc-tite you might be ok if the threads are not too bad. I crashed my Corsair last year I think (it's been a while). I've flown a rebuilt one since, but have no video yet. For the T-6, the stock retracts are ok, but they are weak, especially in the struts. The plane is heavy, so if the landing is not greased, they can bend under the load and then will no longer meet up in the undercarriage. I replaced the mechanicals and I want to replace the struts too.
@dreamwisperer E-flite electric 90 degree retracts. They bolted right in so well that they fit in the same space the manuals did without any modification other than a little relief at the spring joint. They came with struts, but they were straight and the Texan takes a bent strut. The bent struts are better IMO because they kick the wheels forward and help prevent nose over. I'm hoping to find a shop to bend the higher quality E-flite struts so I can use them and get rid of the weak ones.
Nice video. There is so much to see. I like how you started it during the setup process all the way through the flight. That's a nice airplane. A little PIO on takeoff, but you stayed with it and smoothed out. I like the flying area you fly at too. Lots of room. Windy conditions, but not too bad. Don't worry, the landings will get better as you get used to it I'm sure. Congrats on the maiden!
@FourFreshTires It is so nice to respond to your kind comments!!! I am really looking forward to seeing your next video...Ah my Cherokee.....eventually, all i have to say is that it flies wonderfully.....oh yes, on the first-take off, things got very difficult.IMO once the airplane detached from the pavement, it was a miracle that i managed to save it.....seen the dive ??? Oh my..... I must also find out what's happening with the muffler. The engine was bought used and although ,as you can see,
@FourFreshTires ( continue ) she works flawlessly, i have some difficulties with the muffler. It keeps loosing....maybe because of the thread...i suspect they have been a little bit "abused"......i may eventually go the "known-route" and pull the trigger on the original muffler....but it costs ~20$ ex.shipping. We will see..........Oh and i have another airplane to test-fly.....my P-36A Hawk / Saito FA-180GK......that will be fun........
It seems you have too much elevator throw. Reduce the throw or add exponential on the transmitter.

@peterlution actually no. not too much throw. it was the maiden flight and it was untrimmed.

@dreamwisperer Where's the cowling?
71259mark 8 months ago
@71259mark I didn't install it on purpose....in order to prevent a possible overheating. Ofcourse during the next flights....

@emiliomahias I think that i've set my flaps at either 30 or 40 degrees....i am going to lower though to 20 degrees of defflection!

@emiliomahias Guys, watch my t-shirt ...... the wind that day was awefull, despite the *good* weather forecast!
