It's also understood in that church, that if people are not married, that they might burn in their lusts. (1 Cor 7:9). One can see that the Corinthian church certainly had loose standards pertaining to lust.

What's most important is the relationship, the love one dedicates to Christ. @YankinMichaine i dont know about that. the girl in the video used the word self gratification. and someone who still is addicted to pornography, i would say gratifying yourself only causes self hatred.

@YankinMichaine gratifying yourself may not cause hatred short term.. but long term if it turns into an addiction... yes it will cause depression and many other emotions that you dont want,, because thats what addictions do.

@Gods0n1 Really? I enjoy playing music for my own pleasure. Certainly it's a form of self-gratification, yet it has made me friends and led me to enjoy life more. I find sex with my girlfriend to be tremendously gratifying, and it has deepened our relationship and my enjoyment in life. I write stories that I don't share with others -- surely gratifying myself -- and yet that doesn't lead to addiction or depression. Why is masturbating somehow different in your mind?

@YankinMichaine well, lets look at everything in perspective... playing music and sex and drinking ect. can all be forms of gratification that can lead to addiction... and addiction I'm sure causes depression towards the victim. perhaps i left out "addiction". maybe that's were the disagreement came. but i still argue self gratification as a whole has the possibility to cause depression and regret towards yourself.

That they are no worse than music? Everything can cause depression in someone -- sunshine, praying, community service, watching kittens play with yarn. I just don't get Christianity, I don't think anyone really does. The Bible tells us we are sinners, and then says we will go to hell if you sin.......it's really a confusing book. Where is the balance, lust is evil yet it's a part of life....what ???

We all have needs and we all have wants. What we want isn't often what we need or is good for us. There's a clear distinction. Lust is a want, a desire.
Have you read the entire Bible? It does tell us we're sinners. It does tell us we will go to hell if we do not seek Jesus's forgiveness for our sins It also tells us everyone may be forgiven, all sins wiped away.
Lust is evil, yes. It's a trial everyone faces in life, yes. It doesn't make it right.

No, I haven't read the entire Bible because you get stuck all the time. Look up a commentary or 2 and see how it can be taken many ways.
Jesus said many things will send to hell still even devoted Christians, etc.... fornicators, etc... go to hell so there is no clear teachings just that we are sinners and we should hope that we are saved or something.....
What happens to people who died without knowing about Jesus ?

Romans 3:23 states that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Yes, no one is perfect. Everyone is guilty of something. However, consider Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him."

He was the ultimate sacrifice, suffering so much for us. If we said, "Okay, I'll accept you," and then went on living in sin, what would that convey to him and to his act?

So doesn't that imply we can't be perfect, since we have a sinful nature and cannot escape sin on our own ? No one is good not one ! Basically we should be open and free to learn more about Christ becoming more loving year after year, but not prefect ? Just look at priests in the Catholic church, the stricter you are the more evil you do, because it's impossible to change your heart's desires without years of counseling and we rebel against rules...it's our nature.

There was an aztec king who once said out of the forty years of his rein in which he had every wish granted to him, he was happy only fourteen days out of those forty years. Happiness is tenuous and fleeting. Joy is achieved by loving God, by saying, "To heck with all the junk of this world, I'll serve Him and experience content in heaven." This world isn't perfect - it's impossible to be eternally happy within it. Jesus doesn't promise you happiness on this earth, but He does promise joy.

Christians who find deep fulfillment through belief in Jesus don't realize that others have found deep fulfillment without it. I have no need for your God, and my life is rich, full and joyous.

I think the reason people go astray so deep in the Catholic church is because they put so much on ritual, the ritual becomes more important to them than the heart.
What's most important is the relationship, the love one dedicates to Christ. It is a lifelong work He does in us and a lifelong process we go through, growing closer and closer to Him, showing His love to others. Yes, we aren't perfect. That's what's so amazing - Jesus's work and love is shown through forgiven sinners.

@JayMerc75 I've read a lot of it, as well as some of the gospels suppressed by the early church for political reasons. I like Jesus a lot. He's a classic Jewish left wing utopian whose heirs include Karl Marx, Emma Goldman and several others of my heroes. It's these so-called "Christians" who twist his message to preach body-hatred, repression and fear of the loving, living God who irk me. I know there are many fine and spiritual Christians, but I doubt very much they're on this channel.

@JayMerc75 Didn't mean to imply that you were affiliated with them, but how is what you are saying different from what they are saying? Sex is only okay if it is vanilla sex between a married man and a woman. Pornography and "other sexual perversions" are automatically wrong. To me, as long as everyone is of age, everyone is into it (and sober/with it enough to consent) and the activity is reasonably safe, it's okay. All these other sexual rules and taboos just serve to oversexualize society.

@JayMerc75 on another topic, did you ever read the infancy gospel of St. Thomas? It's a hoot. It was repressed along with many other gospels by the early church for not being politically expedient, and is the only gospel that tells what happens between Jesus' early infancy and adulthood. I won't spoil it, but it's definitely worth checking out!
