@GineiKurogasa 'De Laatste Show', a Belgian evening talkshow. It's from the VRT (Vlaamse Radio en Televisie). They always feature a guest singer who together with their own home-band (De Laatste Show band).
I heard this story years ago, so tell me it was true or not:Sharon was covering this song with Within Temptation and Tori Amos climbed to the stage and they sang together.Do you guy know if it's true?If so, where can I see the video?
@guitarlawyer75 As far as I know WT have never covered this song live, and I have no recollection of Sharon and Tori Amos ever performing together. Sharon is a huge admirer of Tori so, if they had performed together, it's something she'd mention in interviews...
Love her voice, her fashion sense, all her perfomances.... love ALL about her!!!! Compared to the original, I prefer sharon's version (sorry to all tori's fans out there!)

I'd like to see Sharon play piano with as much skill and panache as Tori, while maintaining such a pure voice. And this is Tori's song, of course, so Sharon obviously isn't feeling the pain Tori felt when she wrote it. Technically, Sharon has a great voice, but it's too immaculate for this song, in my opinion. Tori exhibits the pain and struggle through her voice, and that isn't present here.
@sickofwaitingtables I think you´re forgeting that Sharon isn´t Tori, so we can´t really expect her to do this better than Tori cause she´s the original and she´s a great artist, covers that sound better than the original artist´s version only happen with suckish artists like Miley Cyrus and we definitely don´t have that situation here.
I have all the respect in the world for Sharon, especially singing this song. If she hadn't have sung this I would never have started my love affair with Tori. So thank you Sharon, you bring a uniqueness to this song which is beautiful and it's really great that you're a tori fan too :) Maybe one day Tori with cover WT

I prefer this version to the original by far. Sharon's voice is flawless, she hits every note *strongly*. She controls her breath. I can't find any default.

If you haven't heard her before, you should hear her with her band Within Temptation. She also sang "In and Out Of Love" with Armin Van Buuren.

I've thought up until now that this song was only performed by Tori Amos but now it's hard to decide for me what version is better - originall Tori Amos, or Sharon from WT :) Only as a woman (without voice's assimilation) I prefer Sharon, but If I had to compare theese two women only in respect of voice it's very hard to clearly decided.
I think she does a wonderful job. But then again, I'm not the type of person who listens to music for the lyrics and meaning, I prefer to listen to a song because it sounds nice (hence why I can also listen to a lot of foreign language music). Whether you think the song is "right" for Sharon due to its content is one thing, but you can't deny that she's a talented singer, and I think the song sounds fantastic with her vocals.
We can't compare those singers. They are too different, they represent two different worlds of music. It's very brave to perform Crucify on stage. I don't know many musicians who play Tori's songs.

Frozen is about kids who are sexually and physically abused. The Truth Beneath the Rose is about religion. There's songs about love, too. There are songs based on books, too. Say my Name is about Alzheimer's Disease. Naive? Wow. You amaze me.
Sharon den Adel is an amazing singer. If you don't like her voice than you don't have to listen to her. Have you heard her with her own band? Not to be rude, but you can't judge someone's voice after one song that is different than how she usually sings. i know this song (have known it for long) and i'm pretty sure that she either doesn't understand what it's about (most of tori's lyrics can be misinterpreted. She almost NEVER writes lyrics that are...lucid or simple)

The song "walk to dublin" is a perfect example. i just don't get what she's saying.
But just when i'm ready to discard a song, she swoops in with a brilliant interpretation.
What i love most about her is how much emotion she puts in her song. To the point where even if you don't understand the entire song, you can interpret the feeling..
Also, i have checked out two of the three songs you've recommended. there surely is emotion there. but it's more of a ..."i'm cold and alone...save me...tears" kind of thing.

Tori's songs tend to discuss topics that are of a different nature. songs about misogyny, rape, prostitution, sexism, or even political matters sometimes. Both artists don't run within the same circles as far as emotions go.
Well, we can more or less say that she's one of the many copies of evanescence (maybe it's the other way around :D depending on whoever came first). The outcome's still the usual despair-driven cry for help, and my point is that this is far from Tori Amos. not necessarily in a bad/good way. It basically depends on preference. But from my viewpoint, i don't appreciate artists singing for people to save them. Tori has a more 'do it yourself' attitude that appeals more to me & other tori fans.

Well, lke it or not she does sound an aweful lot like amy lee and they are a rock/metal band which i think is also the genre amy lee operates in.
I don't mean she's an exact copy of evanescence. i'm not a fan so i haven't paid attention to details. But after hearing a couple of songs the first thing that popped in my mind was 'evanescence'. They obviously have similar styles as a lot of within T fans are also amy lee fans. They both appeal to the same market.
Omg, do some research. THIS is one of the best symphonic metal singers of all time. Maybe its because i'm in love with the band, but don't start about ruining songs.

It might be that she's used to more poetic lyrics (some of which are very similar to amy lee's btw. but that's besides the point). These are...raw. If she'd sang "precious things" it might have worked. It's sort of their style i guess...

no your wrong. Within Temptation isint like evanescence. They are different. if you reaserched it you would know that WT is SYMPHONIC METAL not rock/metal. I love both bands, but you cant compare. Amy Lee is not like Sharon. I love Sharon more than any other singer. Listen to their albums and you will hear a difference. Sharon is deep. she helps me get over horrible things that happend.
I'm not getting into details of what kind of music each band makes. I miss the days when it used to be just rock/pop/classical/ballads/jazz without having to use (alternative, symphonic, indie, general).
The point is that they DO have a lot in common. They wouldn't share so many fans & be listed as similar bands on so many websites if they didn't.
And Evanescence have at least 1 song that i know of where they use a symphony too. That seems pretty symphonic to me...

Yah I got this on a MP3 and I thought it was pretty good. But then saw Tori did it first and checked it out. I love Sharon and all but I think she should have left it to Tori. She's a good singer but the song doesn't fit her well.

She's lip syncing. I'm sorry, but she is. She normally doesn't, but now she is. EVERY SINGLE THING about her voice is the same as the recorded version. maybe that's why it doesn't look like she's got that much emotion right now.
I like this version, it's sorta funky. Although I still prefer the original. :) But I understand it was a cover, so it's not really supposed to sound like the original.
I'm a huge fan of WT and Sharon but I do like the original version better. I think it's a beautiful cover, I just tend to be a sucker for originals. Maybe that's the songwriter in me. Sharon has a gorgeous voice but I think this song is specifically *written* for Tori's (by Tori).
Don't thumbs-down me because you think I'm dissing WT, because I'm not. They have tons of incredible originals of their own that are suited to Sharon's incredible voice that other people can't even attempt to do.

Not to be rude, but you can't judge someone's voice after one song that is different than how she usually sings. You're entitled to your opinion but please do not put her down for the sake of her fans.

I don't agree with you fionasapple!! I don't all understand the lyrics as i'm french and not yet bilingual, but all i know is that i have tingles when i hear this song performed by Sharon!! I think she finds emotions naturally and she passes it very well!

2) she can sing soooo emotional (Forgiven, Our Farewell, Somewhere etc.)

i was not basing my judgement on simple hearsay or because i'm a fan of tori's.
i know this song (have known it for long) and i'm pretty sure that she either doesn't understand what it's about (most of tori's lyrics can be misinterpreted. She almost NEVER writes lyrics that are...lucid or simple)
or maybe she's not exactly sure how to express what she understands.

:) well, i surely didn't mean to imply that. I actually have trouble understanding most of her lyrics (unless she explains them in concerts or interviews...).
The song "walk to dublin" is a perfect example. i just don't get what she's saying.
But just when i'm ready to discard a song, she swoops in with a brilliant interpretation.
What i love most about her is how much emotion she puts in her song. To the point where even if you don't understand the entire song, you can interpret the feeling..

Also, i have checked out two of the three songs you've recommended. there surely is emotion there. but it's more of a ..."i'm cold and alone...save me...tears" kind of thing.
something amy lee from evanescence would be caught singing.
Tori's songs tend to discuss topics that are of a different nature. songs about misogyny, rape, prostitution, sexism, or even political matters sometimes. Both artists don't run within the same circles as far as emotions go.

Well, we can more or less say that she's one of the many copies of evanescence (maybe it's the other way around :D depending on whoever came first). The outcome's still the usual despair-driven cry for help, and my point is that this is far from Tori Amos. not necessarily in a bad/good way. It basically depends on preference. But from my viewpoint, i don't appreciate artists singing for people to save them. Tori has a more 'do it yourself' attitude that appeals more to me & other tori fans.

Well, lke it or not she does sound an aweful lot like amy lee and they are a rock/metal band which i think is also the genre amy lee operates in.
I don't mean she's an exact copy of evanescence. i'm not a fan so i haven't paid attention to details. But after hearing a couple of songs the first thing that popped in my mind was 'evanescence'. They obviously have similar styles as a lot of within T fans are also amy lee fans. They both appeal to the same market.

Actually, if anyone needs to do some research it's probably you. This song, sung the way she's singing it, means absolutely nothing.
It might be that she's used to more poetic lyrics (some of which are very similar to amy lee's btw. but that's besides the point). These are...raw. If she'd sang "precious things" it might have worked. It's sort of their style i guess...

i guess you're right about the difference of styles. And Sharon doesnt look als bubbly singing it, while she is in her element with her own band. I just dont like WT being compared with other bands :)

no your wrong. Within Temptation isint like evanescence. They are different. if you reaserched it you would know that WT is SYMPHONIC METAL not rock/metal. I love both bands, but you cant compare. Amy Lee is not like Sharon. I love Sharon more than any other singer. Listen to their albums and you will hear a difference. Sharon is deep. she helps me get over horrible things that happend.

I'm not getting into details of what kind of music each band makes. I miss the days when it used to be just rock/pop/classical/ballads/jazz without having to use (alternative, symphonic, indie, general).
The point is that they DO have a lot in common. They wouldn't share so many fans & be listed as similar bands on so many websites if they didn't.
And Evanescence have at least 1 song that i know of where they use a symphony too. That seems pretty symphonic to me...

I believe Tori's version is MUCH better. Don't get me wrong, I love Within Temptation, but I don't think this is Sharon's style. It's meant to be more emotional. She sings it almost like a pop song...

Yah I got this on a MP3 and I thought it was pretty good. But then saw Tori did it first and checked it out. I love Sharon and all but I think she should have left it to Tori. She's a good singer but the song doesn't fit her well.

it's not bad, but it sounds too pop. Tori's definitely more emotional and spatial, Sharon sounds sweet and flat actually. And Sharon's idea of interpretation of this piece is just... inadequate

You should be happy that a singer of SDA's calibre has covered this song. She has a simply beautiful voice, I can find absolutely nothing wrong with this rendition, her voice sounds sensational

I like within temptation and i love tori, but mixed together is not good. they've made the song lack impact and emotion, im not saying within temptation dont normally have emotion but this song sounds and feels bone dry compared to the original :( sounds like bad karaoke

She's lip syncing. I'm sorry, but she is. She normally doesn't, but now she is. EVERY SINGLE THING about her voice is the same as the recorded version. maybe that's why it doesn't look like she's got that much emotion right now.

I'm a huge fan of WT and Sharon but I do like the original version better. I think it's a beautiful cover, I just tend to be a sucker for originals. Maybe that's the songwriter in me. Sharon has a gorgeous voice but I think this song is specifically *written* for Tori's (by Tori).
Don't thumbs-down me because you think I'm dissing WT, because I'm not. They have tons of incredible originals of their own that are suited to Sharon's incredible voice that other people can't even attempt to do.
