Holy crap we played this in our award winning jazz band last year... Tht wasn't 2 bad, but doing this while marching has 2 b freakin suicide on a drill chart
I was best friends with the song writer of Dancing Men, John LaBarbera's son. He actually came and directed us playing that song back in 1995....cool...we also played Tiger of San Pedro. He's a jazz professor at the University of Louisville. Awesome teacher, great guy. He also wrote "Pop pop fizz fizz" Alka Seltzer to the Rescue. No Joke. I met Doc Severson because I name droppede him and he turned around very interested. John also introduced me to Wynton Marsalis. Awesome stuff!
Possibly my #1 BR chart. But correction: the other version is off the "Rich in London" album. That said, I agree this is a tighter and certainly acoustically better version. But I miss the Lin Biviano top at the end.
This sax solo kicks the other version's ass hardcore. I love how the bassist playing funk over Buddy Rich's signature quick swing style...it works so damned well, that juxtaposition. I always loved the Buddy Rich big band stuff where he had electric bassists.
Jazz buffs recognize that the bass solo borrows heavily from Chameleon!

@toson569 I don't think that's possible. I'm pretty sure Buddy died in the 80s.

We played it at Terry Parker High in Jacksonville, FL the 1982 football season. I had the tuba solo!
