People love to generalize the Midwest, North, and Deep South as places with ugly people. I live in southern California, and there are just as many if not more "ugly" people here. It's just that the filthy rich and celebrities (most who are transplanted from other areas anyway) can spend money on plastic surgery, other procedures, and get much more publicity. Then the attractive girls can just wear more provocative clothing, wear more makeup, and just act more smug than the middle Americans.
I live in Michigan, and the D is a money pit for the entire state...and the end result is a bankrupt city and a mayor put in jail. Jay was right though, Vancouver is definitely the China town of Canada. McDoanalds had their menu in english and Chinese.
Detroit itself (aside from some of the downtown area) is no better than a third world country. Burnt down homes, po folks, no hope, no jobs, gangs, violence EVERYWHERE! but with that being said, the Metro area is home to some of the nicest parts of the entire country and for those who say all of Michigan sucks, go up north you idiot. Wtf are you talking about. No one is comparing Detroit to Harlem, Philly, Atlanta etc. Its being compared to Vancouver, which is consistently one of the top ranked cities in the world.
Vancouver has a better standard of living, better healthcare, it is cleaner, has a better economy and its a better tourist spot.

I'm an American who's been to Canada a million times and Vancouver specifically 3x. I have to say it's a great city, so I can't bash it. Of course that doesn't give residents license to bash another city, esp with Vancouver's notoriously lax view on drugs. Rarely have I experienced any anti-Americanism, but for all I know they're pissing in my soup and smiling aboot it...maybe I should try Alberta next time.

Vancouver was rated the best city to live in North America 3 years straight. 2nd in the world 3 years straight. Sports teams are not what makes a city. However, it gives no right for someone in Vancouver to criticsize Detroit. People whether we like or not Americans and Canadians are relatively the same. As far as sports go Vancouver is an embarrassment. The only team you peasants can sustain is the Nucks who aren't even competitive. Detroit has forgotten more about winning NHL titles than you losers will ever know. I've been to Vancouver and it is a fun town though.

sure, everyone here has healthcare car insurance and a pretty good standard of living. Aside from a 3 block radius on the east side of town pretty much everyone else has it good. and if detroit is so much better why is vancouver ranked the 2nd best city in the world to live in by the u.n.'s independant polls.
