  • I have a question for DWTerminator - do you think Guild Wars 2 sounds promising? (It's a yet to be released MMO.) Grinding is supposed to be (allow me to emphasize SUPPOSED; devs naturally don't always keep their promises) a minor part of the game, PvP too, and it will not have any montly fees (just like the original game didn't have). This seems to cover most of the issues you have with MMOs.

    Thanks in advance :)

  • I can't help but noticing, does she(Jill) throwing a dildo!? LOL

  • It's a knife.

  • I wonder if by "original unreal" he meant the actual first game with the title unreal and not the FPS unreal. As for the FPS, it was very impressive when it came out, graphics mostly I received it for free with my first GeForce 256DDR IIRC.

I agree about Arcanum. I wish they would go back to create a sequel or something. I like all of their games (they are now called Obsidian), I even played Alpha Protocol 4 times. FFS, MORE ARCANUM!

  • Obsidian's not composed of the remnants of Troika. Both studios had people from Black Isle Studios, though. Arcanum's a dead license though. If there were a sequel made it'd probably end up being a horrible action game since that's what sells these days...

And I'm pretty sure the guy was asking about Epic Games' shooter Unreal. Graphics were impressive at the time, sure, but the game itself really isn't very fun.

  • @DWTerminator I consider Troika, Black Isle and Obsidian under the same "roof". Sure it's not the same team with just different name, but I see them as being the same family or something.

For me Unreal had an interesting story, but I never really enjoyed the shooting mechanics of the game. It always felt a bit...floaty or something.

As for fun...I never wanted to finish the game, but I think that was mostly because I never managed to enjoy the way it felt (moving, shooting)

  • I see what you mean then.

And yes, Unreal's world and story were interesting, but it really fell short in the gameplay. The levels were often a bit too easy to get lost in and the shooting mechanics felt a bit awkward (luckily they got overhauled for UT99). I never really got far into Unreal either though.

  • Hmmh, I still haven't grasped what makes Arcanum SOO superior to every other RPG. Granted, renaissance vs fantasy makes really interesting gameworld, there's plenty to explore and story is quite unique & interesting... but on the other hand, party banter is non-existant, combat system is crippled, magic is far too OPed compared to tech and grinding outmatches quests in terms of level gaining (something I though you'd hate in RPG).

Arcanum is good, but to me BGII & Fallout 1/2 are far better.

  • I personally prefer Arcanum above all other RPG's I've played. I know most people won't agree with me, especially if I say I like it more than Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1 & 2, etc

And actually I hardly consider Arcanum to be "crippled." They designed it so you don't have to go out and grind to level up. You can just take out enemies along the way during quests and still gain enough XP to get to the high levels fairly easily. Also, party banter is a decidedly BioWare trait

  • Congratulations again for your reviews! Do you plan to review the Age of Empires series (if I remember well you have played them all except from Age of Mythology) and do you think that AOE3 was worse than AOE2? Thanks for your time and keep entertaining us!

  • Thanks, and yes, I plan on reviewing the AoE series at some point in the future. As for AoE3 being "worse" than AoE2... not really. Different, sure, but not really worse.

  • @DWTerminator Thanks, I am waiting forward to it! AOE3 for me felt like a "realistic" copy of Age of Mythology! The campaign had a boring and cliche storyline and wasn't based on historical events! Then the maps felt smaller and they weren't randomly generated ( at least from what I remember)! I also hated the limitations on maximum number of towers and battleships! Then the resources were less and there were too many ways to earn them easily (infinite coins from whales)! But it is not bad !

  • DW, Can you please tell your fans about your thoughts about what you think about the old Black Isles studios RPGs (Fallout, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, ect.) and about what do you think about the now-defunct studio in general.

  • That's more a review request than something for a Q&A.

  • @DWTerminator Okay . Then can you please tell your fans about if you are excited for the next Red Orchestra?

  • I suppose so.

  • Not sure if was asked in previous Q$A but here it is: Do you think in future ppl would call games released earlier these years like example from 2005 classic ones or will remain the same games that are classic at moment? For you what will be?

  • Nope, hasn't been asked before. I'll add it to the list.

  • Congratulations about you reviews! I really enjoy them!

Can I ask you something? Which game do you think is better:

Medal of Honor Allied Assault or Call of Duty 1, because although I like them both, I always preffered MOHAA! ( forget my bad english and keep up the good work!)

  • I prefer CoD1.

Glad you like the reviews as well.

  • Free with our liqour and nudity really?!

  • Much more so than the US and Canada.

  • @DWTerminator

Maybe france is I know they are pretty free about nudity been there 3 times. but countries like germany and great britain no. And norway is to cold to care about nudity, though liqour is a problem. probably because of the cold.

  • As long as the nudity is no more than arses and breasts and isn't meant to be erotic, then it's allowed on TV in Germany and Britain (they're much more concerned with violence). There are plenty of magazine advertisements with nudity in them as well. They're pretty open about it. And yes, I've been there.

  • I'm using the Steelseries 5Hv2 headset and I recommend it! Also the Cybersnipa Sonar 5.1 was a really good and comfortable headset.

  • Might check those out. Reasonably priced?

  • @DWTerminator I think these days they are both in the 50-70 dollar price range.

  • That's not reasonable for me at all.

  • @DWTerminator

Check out the Plantronics Gamecom 367. Best headset for the 20-30$ range.

  • Yeah that's definitely much more reasonable. I'll look into it.

  • I was in France last summer, Paris to be exact. I didn't find any of them to be jackasses. Ironically, they were one of the nicest countries.

  • There are very few friendly French people in my experience. You either were in a tourist-ey area or speak French very well. I was in neither and couldn't so much as get the time of day from anyone.

  • @DWTerminator

Odd. I don't speak French at all, and I was in a very local area.

  • You must've been in one of those rare pockets of France that happens to be friendly then.

  • I have a question for your Q&A. Do you read manga, and if so, which ones?

  • I have a question. If a giant fat man wearing a blue tuxedo carrying an orange goat and red paint asked you to blink ten times and then eat a sandwich in the middle of an ice rink for 50 dollars would you do it?

  • Some questions for you: is the man a fat giant, or simply a very large fat man? Is the tuxedo carrying the orange goat and red paint or is the man doing so? What kind of sandwich is it? How crowded is the ice rink? Are the 50 dollars US, Australian, or Canadian? Are said dollars real or counterfeit? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen European swallow?

  • @DWTerminator My hat is off.

  • Have you ever played PlanetSide? Its kind of the MMOFPS you described. I played it awhile back when they gave away a year for free and it was quite a bit of fun, you could get all the best weapons within a few days and then it was just down to skill. Some battles even consisted of hundreds of people.

  • Nope, haven't played it.

  • DWT, I would go on the forums, but I forgot my Password, can you reset it in some way? (It's 3Try.)

  • You should be able to reset it yourself.

  • Question

1.Whats your biggest dissapointment in gaming history?

  • Have you tried the witcher 2 yet? I hear it is really good. I have yet to play the first one so I want to get that before I play the witcher 2

  • Nope. Can't afford it.

  • 2 unrelated questions:

    1) I dunno if youve been asked this, but what youtubers do you enjoy watching, unrelated to gaming (or at least the lets play and reviews aspect of gaming)?

    2) What do you think about review sites like IGN? For me, most of my complaints is actually in the comments. I hate when people bitch like crazy when their game gets anywhere below a 9.5, comparing it to CODs review, and saying "IGN = IGNORANT".

  • @metaitachi For me I cant stand IGN. I think theyre quite biased because they compare it to COD and Halo as if COD and Halo are the best FPSs out there when ive played better. I just think IGN sucks and i will never trust any of their reviews. But thats just me.

  • @gamegod4567 I disagree with the cod thing. The commenters bring it up way more than IGN does in its reviews and when it does, it maybe says "this game has a cod-like multiplayer system" which is fair enough. I rarely see them compare games to COD or halo

  • Europe more liberal with sex?

Because most of the porn you find online is european, not american...

  • No, because they're open about it. You see a condom ad in the US, it stirs up controversy. You see a bare breast and "OH GOD THEY'RE CORRUPTING THE YOUTH!!!! BAN IT!!!!" In Europe, they don't care.

  • @DWTerminator

Never seen a bare breast on British nor German adverts... Could be true of some other countries...

  • I've seen some bare breasts on British and German TV shows. They also tend to have centerfolds in their "National Enquirer" style publications too.

  • are you in university and what are you studying?

  • See question 3 in Q&A #2.

  • OMG jill of the jungle! NostalgaGasim.

  • Figured it was about time to do something with Jill in it...
