Some solid facts about the process of choosing a Dalai Lama since 1700s:

1)according to the remnants of the last Dalai Lama,the senior monks will go to the lake gnam-mtsho to see signs from the heaven.

2)Candidates were chosen according to the above criteria in regions including Tibet,Qinghai,Some parts of Gansu,Yunnan and Sichuan.

3)Candidates' names were carved into sticks and put in a vase.The one chosen by the representative of China government will be recognized finally as Dalai Lama.
