  • Do you know who old you have to be to be a train dispatcher?

  • MY DREAM LOCOMOTIVE .... could be only in my dream .... lol

  • i heard they were thinking of putting a brick arch in goddess is this true??

  • @SteamMad Not that I'd heard recently. The idea has been mooted when a boiler is off as that's the only real chance to put one in. Due to the size it's quite difficult on a Romney boiler. That's why we keep the firehole door shut all the time. But maybe they are thinking again? I'll ask around when I'm next down.

  • Great! What 'scale' speeds do you run at?

    Fantastic locomotive of course.

  • @SteffanLlwyd The locos are about 1/3rd scale. Maximum speed is 25 mph so that's at lease 75 mph. I say at lease because the track is about 1/4 of standard gauge so the locos are actually slightly large to scale so you could argue that it's even faster scale speed. I am aware of drivers (not myself) having reached 33.3, i.e. 100 mph scale speed on very very rare (and frowned upon by management obviously) occasions over the years.

  • @jonemmins Thanks for those details and how great to be a driver! 25/75+ is fast enough! Your mention of unofficial practices on the railway remided of the day we got wed (20 Sept 1975). My new father in law mentioned the old practice of blowing continuous whistles for newly married couples leaving town by train... so the giant of a driver in charge of a Class 24 diesel sounded two-tone horns continuously for 13 miles from Aberystwyth to beyond where Ynyslas station used to be. Yipeee!

  • Stunning! This is absolutely everything people want to see! Thanks!

  • Glad you are enjoying it Terence. Actually, you can probably learn a lot about driving a Romney loco from watching these kinds of videos! (But not everything!)

  • stuung vid i love it im jake wallis from dymchurch

  • @Gotthard68 It is striking how much the driver/ fireman has to do... lots of adjustments to the regulator and gear, plus firing and various other things including keeping a look out of course! Still, it must be hard getting a position as a driver on the RH&D. I'd consider it if they would have me (age 55!). The coal looks pretty good. Big firebox too!

  • jon you are the best, when it comes to cab ride videos on the RH&DR
