Putting rabbits in a trance is not good for them. Its a state a fear. They go into this state when they're trying to "play dead" for a predator. The predator wont have a hard grip on his prey because he thinks its dead, this gives the bunny a better chance to escape. please do not do this to your bunnies. It stresses them out, it doesnt relax them.
i had a bunny that did that same thing and it was funny cause his head went back and when he went too far he regaimed concious and he stood up fast, it was cute
they actually have a nerve in their back that makes them fall asleep when u lay them on their back. i used to have a rabbit and he did the same thing. i miss him :'(
Don't do that again! It's really bad! Actually the trancing called catalepsy is a state of extreme fear. Its a defence mechanism for when they get attacked to play dead so the predator may drop the rabbit who then has a chance to run for his life. It's characterized by the lack of response to external stimuli and by muscular rigidity, so that the limbs remain in whatever position they are placed in.
It has nothing to do with being scared. It's in a lower state of conscience. Relaxed and calm? Not at all! Its characterized by muscular rigidity and fixity of posture regardless of external stimuli, as well as decreased sensitivity to pain. Symptoms include: rigid body, rigid limbs, limbs staying in same position when moved, no response, loss of muscle control, and slowing down of bodily functions. It has nothing to do with trust. Some rabbits just fight back because its an unnatural position.
He's not a wild bunny. He doesn't let everyone hold him on his back like that. He wasn't rigid, he was calm. When he's tired of it, he just turns over. He's not paralyzed in that position. He usually gives me some affectionate nudges after he flips himself back over, before jumping down and going about his business.
luvs luvs luvs them big feet.. what a sweetie! I have tried this with Bun, also aka Bunner, Bun-Bun and trouble some days lol lol thank you for sharing with us
Maybe she just needs time to get used to it. It's probably scary to her at first since she has to trust that no one's going to eat her once her belly's exposed. Just keep handling her a lot and working with her on it. I started by holding mine like a baby before I put him on my lap. A hand over their eyes works well to calm them down.
Mine runs all over the place when he's down on the floor. He has full run of the main floor of my house all day. I only put him in his cage at night now.
Also, I got mine when he was a little more than 3 months old, so I've had him since he was pretty young. It might take an older rabbit a little longer to build trust with her owner.
Thank you! Emily is beautiful. I would love to have a dutch bunny one day. It was so funny to watch Emily letting you move her paws all around and she didn't seem to mind one bit :)

He wasn't really sleeping, he was just very relaxed =). Your bunny has to trust you 100% in order to feel safe with you handling him/her like this.
