My husband just inherited one of these cameras from my grandmother after her death a couple of weeks ago, carrying case and all. It's the coolest thing!
I love these land cameras, but though the sx-70 is great I want to get the first one, the polaroid j66 camera, Luckily I found one for only 30 dollars but the film is expensive and hard to find, though I was lucky enough to find some film for it, even though its 42 dollars per 10 shots, its worth it. Though its in black and white.
I like this kind of Polaroid camera than the ones we have today. Though the ones we have today may be more handy, this old Polaroid camera looks very vintage and has good quality too. :))
I've never owned an SX-70. A couple things strike me.
-The quiet elegance of this ad. And the gorgeous preservation and transfer.
-10 inch min. focus on a Polaroid
-Through-the-lense focusing
-Hard plastic overlapping sides (last forever compared to bellows)
-It just hit me why they called the film "time-zero"-- because before that you had to exactly time the development of packfilm based on the temperature of the room.
I dont understand why with all the technology we have today, we are not able to produce fllms of the same or better quality at a cheaper price! Even if you do not innovative, can't you produce THE SAME? Somebody pls answer my burning question. Even if the company producing it has changed, isn't the technology still there?? I simply cannot comprehend.
the demand is close to zero these days. There are probably still companies that make these films, but there are no longer economies of scale in place which means they will be expensive
I was about 11 or 12 years old the first time I saw an ad for this camera. The cool way it unfolded, spat out the pictures as you took them and then they developed in front of you - I SOOOO wanted one of these. But my folks took all their pics on Kodachrome 64 with an Instamatic (126 cartridges), and I didn't get a say.
About ten years later I bought a Polaroid 600 with built-in flash, and found that the various disadvantages of the Polaroid system outweighed the advantage of getting the pic stat
lol... they had it so much better back in the day... watching the film develop in their hand. using the impossible projects film is so much more difficult. and 10 shots per pack!
For anyone interested, Fuji is now manufacturing instant film like polaroid and is compatible with polaroid cameras and accessories. Most professional camera stores carry it. Like Samy's camera or Freestyle photo in LA.
@ace0931 Yes, I remember those when I was little. They are one time flash bulbs. they were used on some 35mm cameras also. they use a long strand of magnesium wire that burns up inside a plastic bulb.
I used the Polaroid Swinger, the Polaroid Colorpack 80, the Polaroid SX70 and the Polaroid 600. And believe me: perhaps the filmpacks sold in my country were stored in less than perfect conditions but I never was able to develop photos that were even remotely similar to those you see in this demonstration video, color or BW. So save money and buy a digital camera. By the way, I still have got my Colorpack 80 stored in its original box.
this is SUPER cool! i waaaant it! too bad polaroid discontinued their instant cameras ): it's like super hard for me to find their films! not to mention they're also expensive. *i did a research before buying one from ebay
i luv polaroid cams....i want a good one though not exp...getting the sheets may b expensive here...any suggestions....btw i dont hav much money on me...but still!
It's funny, seeing those people taking so many pictures, it makes me want to say "don't you know anything about moderation!" But obviously, they did not have a Polaroid discontinuation when shooting this.
Knowing how hard it is to get film for the SX-70 now, it almost makes me queasy watching the people in the commercial blaze away. (Of course their world had an easy, effectively unlimited supply of SX-70 film, as close as the nearest drugstore...) Here's hoping for T.I.P.!
Haha I love how it tells you how the camera works and gives you step-by step instructions on how it works. Nowadays, commercials focus on being flashy and clever instead of actually telling you what the product is.
holy shit! now that's technology! lol i like the add because it explains how it works and because the relaxing music is just too cool for the time lol... i wonder if they could make like a camera 10 times smaller with a plastic screen telling you what pictures you made all ready and possibly deleting them... but now im just talking mad.. :P
Love that, im going away with a group of friends, going to make scrapbooks for everybody and get a simple polaroid camera and go snap happy, plus you can write on the space below! Sooo amazing!
You can buy one on ebay, other camera stores, etc but this specific model is one of the best polaroid cameras ever made so it may be expensive, anyone that wish to experiment with polaroids before the film go out of stock I'd recommend one of the polaroid 600 models, they're much cheaper, good luck :-)
@flickrfabio i luv polaroid cams....i want a good one though not exp...getting the sheets may b expensive here...any suggestions....btw i dont hav much money on me...but still!
don't feel sorry about polaroid! I bought one 3 weeks ago and I am very glad to use it here (in Canada) where I see things in colours. If you use a polaroid, you will see the world differently and force some firm to make again polaroid films. Viva Pola!
yeah just use a piece of paper under to load it and remove the paper before pushing the film all the way in. if you look inside the camera you can see a plate hat doesn't let the film in you need to push that down. and u do that with the paper :O) its not o complicated
