All planes that land on the flight deck have to, so just incase he or she misses the wire, they have power to take off.

So THAT's why they call 'em Hoovers. The nickname never seemed appropriate to me, because you don't really hear it from outside the aircraft. From the inside though, it totally sounds like someone's cleaning your hotel room.
