@wowdude999 A dirty flyover is when they flyover with full flaps deployed and gears down. As opposed to a clean flyover when flaps and gears are up and it's usually a higher speed pass.
Yeah I guess I could have misheard the announcer , or he could have been lying when he said " and now ladies and gentleman, a fly past from Quantas Flight QFxxx which has just left Tullamarine EN ROUTE to London"
Oh and the race programme could have been misprinted too.
I assume it means in the Approach Configuration (gear and flaps down). Because Regarding stalling, you can do a CLEAN stall, which is in the clean configuration (flaps and gear up).
@flightdude12345 it means the airfoils are dirty, i.e Flaps are extended and gear is down. An aircraft is aerodynamically "clean" when all flaps are retreacted, gear is up and gear doors are closed.
I WAS THERE PEOPLE> It was a 747 and it was fully laden and en route to LOndon. QF30 if I remember correctly. End of discussion. The A380 hadn't been delivered to any airline at that stage (and Singapore Airlines got them first not Qantas).
Qantas are one of the safest airlines in the world, they have never lost a jet in an accident, and they have one of the best services, good flight crew, and the fact that you can blow a hole in the side of a 747 and then land it is only credit to what a great aircraft it is, Plus Qantas are part of the Oneworld Alliance so they must go through stringent safety checks, what happened this week could not have been avoided, and it was not corrosion lol.
just because there part of Oneworld doesnt exactly mean thats a reason they are one of the safest.....Theres nothing wrong with Star Alliance and Skyteam.....but Qantas is one of the safest though
I agree, what i was saying is these alliances have big rules on how aircraft should be maintained, People who think Qantas is un-safe should have a word with themselves, just because of one incident that was not even that bad to be honest, im not saying i would want it to happen to one of my flights, but it has happened before and never been on the news.
@SenorSpode I'm gonna cry when the 747 gets retired on more routes in favour of the Socialistbus A380. If I want to arrive in one piece and not have strange "incidents" occur without explanation, I'll fly Boeing!
No it wasn't. The fly over conducted by Qantas every year for the melbourne grand prix is an empty 747, 767 whatever they have available, usually just off maintenance from Avalon Heavy Jet Base Maintenance so as to not affect schedules. The pilots train for this event as it incorporates different CAR and exclusions to be able to fly over heavily populated areas, not usually available during aerobatic or fly over routines.
Its 'the new airbus A380', as announced by the track/advertising staff on the ground (if you listen properly) - It was an advertising stunt. I believe that the 747 and the A380 are different aircraft. Might just be me though?
Definitely on purpose - it was in the programme. I remember when Australia played Uruguay in Sydney in 2005 there was footage of a Qantas doing a flyover of Stadium Australia - I've been looking everywhere to find it!!
Qantas was a Oneworld founding member airline...

@NASCARRELIC a dirty pass is when the gear is down and the flaps are down making it as less aerodynamic as possible

Lol, if that was supposed to be inspiring..

That aint the new A380, look a little closer and you'll clearly see a 747, easily recognisable by its unique upper deck

Woops my bad, I thought the announcer referred to the 747 as the new A380, I guess I should have listened more carefully
