I stopped through Brookhaven during spring break and all I can say is "What an experience!" My favorite part was definitely the tour through Star Town, such helpful locals representing all that Brookhaven has to offer! Then a late lunch at Broma's and dinner at Krystal's, delish! WIth a delightful small town feel where everyone seems to know everyone, this place is a wonderful place to visit. For a day or so.
I have lived in Brookhaven for 8 months now & it is sorely lacking in many ways. The medical services are extremely limited with only 3 primary care doctors in town & 2 of them are not taking new patients. The hospital doesn't even have a cardiologist on staff. The shopping basically consists of Walmart. If you want a dining experience, forget it. You can't even buy a book or office supplies in this town. Realestate is way overpriced for what they have to offer here. Very boring town!
It is a nice place to live, but a bit too "family" for some.
I have an idea-take the train to New Orleans for about $32.00 RT. Leave at noon, get in the Garden District by 3:30. Short cab ride to the Clarion Boutique Hotel on St. Charles st. (nice, cheap rooms) take the street car for a beverage and dinner. Breakfast and lunch next day, on the train by 1:20, back home by 4:00pm.
@THESOUTHERNBELLE1 , you have no idea what you are talking about, I spend a great deal of time in Brookhaven, and have for many years because my family is there. They have an excellent hospital, and as for a Cardiologist, I saw one there less than a month ago. Little of what you've stated here is truthful or has any resemblance to fact, you appear to have an agenda.
My grandparents, David and Jimminette Phillips, live in Brookhaven, and my favorite thing to do is visit them in Brookhaven. I wish I could live there!
I know your grandparents, riverjonas...I can't believe they ARE g'parents! Ole Brook is my hometown...I find I'm enjoying returning home more and more as time goes by!
