I just happen to be in an AP History class. While no one is for certain the true cause, the most likely (and reasonable) cause for action of this magnitude was to keep the soviets away. The Japanese were teaching civillians including children how to fight to the last. The bombs shortened the war and saved American, Allies and Japanese lives. There were civillians killed at Pearl Harbour too. They started it... we finished it.

Only half the story, japan drifted toward surrender after it's entire army in asia (manchuria) was destroyed during august storm by the soviets. This bomb wasn't 100% necessary, and two were definitely no necessary.

I kinda agree with kristjan505, Pearl Harbor was a Japanese Military attack on the US, were neutral...and this was the ultimate response of the Americans, if we hadn't dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki the Japanese wouldn't have surrendered the war, they deserved it, they thought there could just come and kill our citizens and we would do nothing about it, well they were wrong. The innocent lives lost was lower then the lives that would have been lost had the war carried on.

Every Japanese was trained to fight to death & was considered "enemy".

What all you retards are not counting is that IF the U.S launched a massive land invasion of Japan, the Japanese government would have forced the same citizens that died in the attacks onto the beaches to fight the American invasion force. At the time, the powers to be (Japan, Germany, UK, Russia, USA...) believed that the worker/civilian who was feeding/equipping/supporting its armed forces was "fair game", regardless of how remote he/she was from the battlefield; ie meaning that ALL human resources are directed towards the pursuit of the war effort, sad as it is.

Australia intercepted the Japanese invasion and informed the U.S officials, however the president allowed the bombing to take place to give an excuse for America to enter the war. That's why on the day of pearl harbour you saw very little crew present, mostly deckhands and mechanics. @kristjan505 Pearl harbor was an attack on a military base. What the Americans did to Japan was to try and kill as many civilians in Japan as possible by dropping huge ass bombs and running before they have to fight.

Cool story bro, I got to go to Singapore and see what the Japanese did to the people there, I've read about what they did to the Chinese and the Russians and lastly I got to hear about what they did to the POW that they had captured and I have no respect for those people in charge because they were animals. Do you know that the Japanese are erasing their side of WWII, now most of the kids only think the USA started everything and bombed them. Fucking A+ to those Japs. Sure know how to whip.

the nuclear bombing was not the reason for Japan's surrender - especially since surrender terms were already begun between Truman and Japan as early as May - what stood in the way of Japan's surrender was Truman's backwater logic - I am sure Roosevelt being the consummate statesman that he was would have found a much better solution than the confederate i Utopian Truman who as the record shows, is stupidly responsible for starting the Cold War
