It's always amazing to see someone who speaks your ancestral language better then you do, especially when they do it with such heartwarming loveliness.
Wow! You're pronunciation is excellent! Especially when you said 'galat'. I know many native hindi and urdu speakers who cannot pronounce it correctly! Commendable!
Have u ever read Shiv Kumar Batalvi's poems? Any thoughts. I've started getting into Punjabi poetry but it's difficult because i can't understand 'pure' punjabi words and mine tends to be 'homespoken'. :(
Thanks for sharing your experiences about Punjab and Punjabi with us. Am a punjabi too and am proud of my land and the language. I was not brought up in Punjab ,but i have ALWAYZ made sure to speak my language the maxi I can.I have even learnt the script. One should alwayz respect the roots which one belongs too and also the roots of others...even if you don't desire to follow it!! We are glad that you showed interest in learning Punjabi. pUNJABIS, like me will admire you for a lifetime!!!
Poor dudes feeling inferior being Punjabi, Maybe they never got exposed to Punjabi in their families, to compare languages you need to be well versed in both language you r putting to test . But nowadays their is lot of encouragement to Urdu and Hindi in West and East Punjab , in educational institutions, media, govt. offices etc. in a bid to impose national languages on mthe masses, in India lot many local languages are dying down as the TV culture is reaching remote households,
.........This is a longterm bid by the govts. to bring their lands under control. . It could be said except that the people are falling victim to these policies due to their poor sense of honour , the effect of being slaves for generations still shows up in some peoples' genes. Long live Punjabi

@Ilovejews18 Urdu is an INDIAN language developed in Lucknow... it has no ethnical / native ties with Pakistan... i don't know why your acting so proud mate, Urdu was just chosen as the national language and that's it...and don't bring religion into it claiming it's a "Muslim" language, there's more Muslims in India anyway, so u can't argue on that basis... i don't have issues with india or pakistan or any language, i just have issues with ppl who think they're better than others
The punjabis u see in canada are 99% from poor families.Bcz they couldnt earn much when they were in india and pakistan they go to western countries thats y u see there are more punjabi speaking people in uk canada then in india and pakistan.Btw have u been to pakistan? What do u think which country is better india or pakistan?Dont decide on wt u hear on the news about pakistan lol
@linkinparkz09 Ask them where did they spent their childhood at and theyll say at a village. So people who are from villages still speak punjabi so those who shifted to citys from villages also speak punjabi. But u will not see a child born and bred in lahore(capital of Punjab) and who belongs from a rich family and is educated but still speak punjabi.
@Ilovejews18 nope they were born in a city in faislabad until they came here and there parents my grandma wasnt educated as it was traditional but my granddad was rich educated and came from a city

i am a punjabi from pakistan and i alse feel urdu is superior to punjabi. Its true every1 in pakistan who are educated dont speak punjabi anymore and speak urdu. And punjabi is only spoken by uneducated poor villagers.Punjabi is only good when u want to make fun of sm1 :)
@Ilovejews18 Luckily, not everyone thinks this way in Pakistan. If Punjabis there want to combat this kind of attitude, they need to work hard to produce up-to-date dictionaries and other such materials. It's hard to convince some Urdu supporters that Punjabi is just as rich in its expressive capability.
@ihaveacomputer I just want to second your opinion, ihaveacomputer, I am from West Punjab, I consider Punjabi superior than Urdu (if you 'have to' use that word) I speak Punjabi since childhood... Punjabi was first language I heard from my mother when I was born. How can I speak something else or how can I consider Punjabi inferior ? I have learned Devnagri script by my own self and I am very fluent in that now, but I still need to learn Gurmukhi script, and I will do that soon.
@Ilovejews18 punjabi is more superior linguistically. Punjabi is spoken by some of the kindest people in the world, successful doctors, engineers, scientists, lawyers, actors, singers. Anyone who travels anywhere in the world will hear great pakistani and indians who speak punjabi fluently. Punjabi is spoken by intelligent people all over the world. Punjabi is more widely spoken then hindi and urdu put together. Punjabi is a strong language. Rab pale kare sare nu, rab rakha.
Your own stereotypes portray a wrong picture. Punjabi literature is rich in its culture. As long as you don't endeavor to explore a language you cannot make any justified remark on it. Saying that a language is only good to "make fun of someone" only shows that some are not able to truely learn a language.
@Ilovejews18 im also from pakistan and punjabi is a very good language. Punjabi asli jataan di zabaan eh, theh Gareebah di zabaan eh. Eh gal bhi eh par, punjabi vich bade mashur sher bhi eh vun, theh ilm deh kitaaba bhi eh vun, thussi heer ranja da nahin sunya, theh Saif al Malook.

I am so weirded out right now it's not even a joke. I am speechless. I think I just had an outer body experience. I'm brown and you definitely put me to shame with your Punjabi skills. Dayum. What's even weirder is supposedly you are Italian and I as a punjabi brown person grew up around Italians and were heavily influenced by them, and now I have met my opposite. So weird! In a good way!
Gosh! I am thoroughly IMPRESSED...not only by your Punjabi , but also by your extensive use of difficult Hindi words..Kudos to you! Not too many Indians even who know both language are good as you are! Its nice to hear that you also realize the intricacies of all these languages!

My parents kicked me out to Chandigarh for 5 years, and I must say, you've definitely learned the language well. I like how you have a larger punjabi vocabulary than most punjabi people I know. Good job!
Dude may I ask a question why you would want to even take an interest in Punjabi Culture or Punjabi Language? I am Half Punjabi Myself - And I have always despised the language & always found the culture uncivilized and to a certain degree totally embarrassing. I find this very bizarre.
@YMN1 Punjabi definitely isn't uncivilised! There's a long literary tradition which is of very high quality, especially the poetry and qissa genre. Modern writers produce a lot of material which is of excellent quality, especially short stories. There's more to Punjabi music than Bhangra, and Sikhism has produced a lot of extremely rich cultural output. As for the language, I have a lot of fun speaking it!
@YMN1 Why the HELL would you think that? I guess I can understand why you think that way. I'm Punjabi and well, it's seen as a more cultural language. But still, just because you speak it and are from a Punjabi background is no reason to make you uncivilized. Be PROUD bro, don't be ashamed. In fact, I find it embarrassing that I'm from Punjab and I can't speak it. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm just saying, people don't appreciate those who are ashamed of their ethnicity.
@love000135 wtf?is there a need of getting angry and abuse?u live in india maybe things are different there. In pakistan punjabi is dying. The youth speaks in urdu.So just stfu.
Wow. Your Punjabi is impeccable. I searched and searched for any flaws, and other than the "jawaab" one, I can only point out one. Referring to the professor, the formal tense would be "o vadiya kamm karde aa", not karda aa.
DUDEEE he speaks GREAT!! Seriously if he was conversing among a bunch of Indian or Punjabi people, I would've considered him a Panjabi..though a bit foreign-looking one lol
Awesome jobbbb.....great indeed, you know what you should show this video to guys in canada, america or UK who gets angry at their parents bcuz they tell them to speak punjabi at home,
ihaveacomputer, don't mind the haters. Someone of these posters are unfortunate that were born abroad not in Punjab and unlike you, they may have only visited Punjab 1 or 2 times in their lives and probably can't speak as well as you do. You see Punjabis born outside of punjab only know punjab and sikhy through 1984. They know nothing else.
you combined a lot of sanskrit in your punjabi i am but prefer the persian punjabi version because it sounds very appealing and also you are not speaking complete punjabi you said vidhwaan you could have said pade likhe meaning educated buddy you need to tune up your punjabi because i am a jatt sikh and it sounds very rough!
Give this guy credit, his punjabi is beyond impressive, not even indian people in our own culture can speak punjabi as well as him, this guy is truly an inpiration!! Oh and by the way...you are a "jatt sikh?"...congratulations mate, you need to tune up your sikhi because we stand for equality yet you have the demeans to claim to be a Sikh yet a Jatt at the same time...
@Amardeep661 Nobody cares you're if you're Jatt Sikh. Either you're Sikh or a regular like everyone else. Pick one. Anyway, you're bashing your our jatt community by commenting negative about someone who is not Punjabi obviously and putting a true effort in leaning punjabi. Try to be supportive. Are you really 13?
@Amardeep661 Haha, this is actually a valid point! My Punjabi is Sanskritised because of all the Indian non-fiction I've been reading and my background in studying Hindi. It is definitely my intention to "Persify" my Punjabi. I also hope to chart a way forward to make sure Indian and Pakistani Punjabi don't diverge to the degree of Hindi and Urdu.
@Amardeep661 Punjabi uses all types of inheritence he is speaking punjabi correctly. That kisan punjabi is also dieing out when you go listen to intellectual speakers of punjabi you will pick up more vocab even going into guru granth sahib picking up the dictionary itself.
Your punjabi is awesome! I applaud your dedication to this task. If this is the sincerity you bring to every task you do, then you clearly are a really sorted-out kind of person. (I am not a punjabi, but I find your dedication inspiring.)
your punjabi is pretty good. I like the type of words you use. haha.. but your accents sounds pretty much like the accent they have in Lahore, region of Pakistan. I am not form pakistan, but ihave friends form that part. But overall its awesome. Infact, I love all the different accents, after all its our language i grew up in it.
i alwayz thought that u just acted in jusrign's video... i mean i thought it was just lipsing.. :O But u actually do speak punjabi... :O I didnt know all these suff abt u that u went to punjab n all.. woww :O

ihaveacomputer, don't mind the haters.

His punjabi is absolutely perfect and immaculate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sach1stistheverybest 1 month ago
you combined a lot of sanskrit in your punjabi i am but prefer the persian punjabi version because it sounds very appealing and also you are not speaking complete punjabi you said vidhwaan you could have said pade likhe meaning educated buddy you need to tune up your punjabi because i am a jatt sikh and it sounds very rough!
Amardeep661 1 month ago
@Amardeep661
GodsmacKam 1 month ago 16
@Amardeep661 Nobody cares you're if you're Jatt Sikh. Either you're Sikh or a regular like everyone else. Pick one. Anyway, you're bashing your our jatt community by commenting negative about someone who is not Punjabi obviously and putting a true effort in leaning punjabi. Try to be supportive. Are you really 13?
gagant1 1 month ago
@Amardeep661 Haha, this is actually a valid point! My Punjabi is Sanskritised because of all the Indian non-fiction I've been reading and my background in studying Hindi. It is definitely my intention to "Persify" my Punjabi. I also hope to chart a way forward to make sure Indian and Pakistani Punjabi don't diverge to the degree of Hindi and Urdu.

@ihaveacomputer Get the mahankosh dictionary try go to srigranth (dot) org for more words.
