  • Over 65K views, and fewer than 200 people have bothered to rate this fine video. Where's the fan loyalty.

  • ça c'est du vrai blues.............

  • i'm a jazz/blues player btw

  • can you recommend a good pickup for a jazz guitar?? i got an ibanez ag 75 which is nice but a bit wooly at higher volumes so iam considering a pup upgrade

  • I just bought a AF75 with seymour Ducan p-rails great up grade

  • I have d'addario flat wound strings. They're really slick, but the G string doesn't bend to well.

  • try some thomastick infeld flatwounds, i like them way better than d'addarios.

  • what kind of strings do you use Marty?

  • hes sooo good it sometimes inspires me and other times it disheartens me, he has so many cool licks and a great feel, i sound like a chump along side this guy and ive been playing and practising hard for 8 years

  • Marty rocks as a teacher

  • great

  • Wes Montgomery picked with his thumb, which sounds far better when playing octaves.

  • very good lesson, thank you!

  • New beginner, I really appreciate you and your enthusiasm.

  • thank you. great video

  • just lounging... in the lounge.. XD. nice vid. man i feel like a sucker when i see this vid.

  • Hi Marty, what model guitar are you playing and how much do they cost? Could you recommend any good sounding jazz guitars with a great action at budget prices? What sort of guitar and amp settings do you use to get a great jazz sound? Thank you, John

  • thanks for a good video.

  • and i should pay for you just to talk

  • He said blues smoothie :D great job dude thanks for video ..again 0:47

  • who doesn't like a delicious blues smoothie!! ha ha that was funny man!!!

  • Great video !!! helped much ;]

  • And to think that Wes Montgomery came up with his fantastic thumb picking because he didn't want to wake people who lived in his apartment building up at night!

Wes Montgomery is definitely one of my favorite self-taught guitarists!

Thanks for the lesson--I love this kind of stuff!

  • sounds really good and looks really easy, ima go try

  • dang i suck

  • lol, me 2 after this vid! lol

  • Ye should do a Tom Morello inspired Effects pedal Lesson, showing the uses of the pedals and the different variations of having pedals in different positions in the loop

  • ETAYLORGROUP:presents:Jazz 101

    octive instructor

  • dude but i'm scared of them!

  • the intro sounds like manhattan by eric johnson

  • verry HENDRIX

  • This guys reminds me of Seth from Superbad...lol

    awesome lesson tho!

  • awesome movie!!!

  • Hi Marty. As always, simple but tremendously enriching and, most of all, so musical. The first tune that came into my mind whan I heard this lesson was Manhattan, by Eric Johnson. Could you comment on it and say if he is using that same structure? Thank you again and I wish I had more time to keep up with all your lessons... unfortunately, I do not have it.

  • hehe your fingering notes..:P

    Nice Lesson!

  • fret buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz kills.

  • nice...i learned a lot from this

  • these lessons are great, just try a free 3 day trial on their site if you're not convinced yet!

  • this vid really taught me a lot...

    keep em coming!! :)

  • sounds very eric johnson

  • your a life saver and eye opener thank you!

  • Holy shit, why is the picture quality so poor on this one?

  • it's 11:00 he had to compress it to keep it under 100MB of Youtube's upload limit

  • These lessons are amazing - I get much more out of these than the lessons I use to pay 50 usd for not to long ago.

Do any of the instructors offer guitar lessons over skype?

  • rob chappers does, I believe. search chappers on youtube.

  • He just might like men, good guitarists though.

  • marty is always rolloin, haha

  • Nice! Please some Buddy Guy!!!^_^

  • hye man check out the movie in the electric mist with tommy lee jones and john goodman - buddy guy has a part in it - not watched it myself yet :P...

  • I can't pinpoint exactly what you do that your lessons are way better than any other on youtube, but they're the most inspiring thing here. Especially Marty's and David's. Even when I'm tired and can't be really bothered to pick up a guitar and jam, it gives me a kinda 'reset' when I see the ideas these guys give. Btw. what's up with David? He wasn't doing many videos lately.

  • You rock Marty.

Your lessons have more tangible 'substance' to them than almost any guitar video series on YT. Not only are they different than everyone else's.. they all have an awesome 'cool factor' while practicing!

    Cheers - rock on.

  • another excellent lesson Go MArty!

  • I love the tone on that guitar.

  • Marty is my fav out of the bunch. :)

    Much love!

  • MARTY MARTY MARTY

  • just lounging...in the lounge lol great vid marty

  • What kind of guitar is that? Is it an Epiphone B.B. King Lucille?

  • its a heritage 535 i think? its basically a gibson, made in the same Michigan gibson factory

  • Okay thanks. :)

  • not a lucille a lucille is a gibson, black and awesome..

  • lucille is a gibson les paul.

  • Gibson ES-335

  • nope...lucille is an gibson es-335 with no f-holes

  • But when I got My Epiphone LEs Paul Special II It came with an Epiphone booklet, and that guitar was in it. But whatever, you know more than I do about guitars.

  • no its not its a gibson es-335 bbking didnt use a les paul look it up

  • I think Lucille's current incarnation is an ES-355

  • yah the es-355 came b4 lucille but this is not ti plus its not a gibson

  • it is a gibson.

    ive TOUCHED it.

    HELD it.

  • oh im sorry duh i meant to say not an epi! lol yah i know i went to guitar center and played it through a marshal mgdfx srry but yah its a gibson

  • dip shit that is no Gibson it was made at Gibson's old factory in Kalamazoo Michigan after Gibson left that facility a group of workers who didn't want to move with Gibson to Tennessee so they stayed behind and started heritage and now you know that is not a Gibson as close as you can get but much better

  • marty plizz were is my video?

  • Eric Johnson has a beautiful song called "East Wes" which is a tribute to Wes Montgomery that uses a lot of these octaves.
