I was walking out the door into pitch blackness and it's ice cold outside and I hear an email arrive on my phone. So I look at the email and couldn't figure out what the HELL this was about since I made that comment 4 months ago... so I click the link to the video and it's ice cold and pitch black and wouldn't you know, creepy CGI Sadako with blonde hair is shrieking at me from the screen, in the darkness. (well actually it was ME doing the shrieking but whatever)
Shame about the face though... looks like... I dunno, like Sadako from Ringu.... or any other japanese horror movie with some long black haired japanese ghost girl.... if I saw this face in a dark alley I'd die screaming of a heart attack.
@phreeck988 Too bad, but Nalu used tessellation, too! And yes @WEKS87 Nalu is a real time demo. Tessellation has also been on GPUs since 6800 and x1600.
@TrickyEmu Everything i read says only SIMILAR METHODS were used back then.
If it was available back then to get graphics that look this good with low cost, don't ya think they'd use it? And why do today's cards have such a problem with it if it's been out for so long?
@phreeck988 We still can't use it in games. but I think they have this demo because it's now easier to animate hair than before. DX11 really brings no visual changes. It's all behind the scenes making it easier for programmers, designers and animators. What I read is that DX 11 requires less code than the former ones. This might also mean that those things run faster. Who knows.
@TrickyEmu I never remember ever having so many dx versions coming out so quickly and i kinda wish they'd slow down with this crap. Oh dx10 was sooo much better than 9... and so many games used that fancy volumetric smoke nonsense. It will turn out to be just like that. Nice to look at, but doubtful you will have the fps to enjoy it.
@TrickyEmu Oh and you basically right, back in the day the tessellation solutions they had were Truform (ati). It is a horrid primitive version of tessellation that required models to be made with it in mind and required much more work to make sure it didn't tessellate what wasn't supposed to be. The other being NVidia's quintic-rt. Which I have no clue what it does. Searched wikipedia for hardware tessellation.
it seems to move slower because it's animating at about 1/2 speed.
though I can't help and wonder why every company is trying to make games look better but not play better, with new and interesting game play elements and challenges.

Please take a look at the Nalu Demo for Geforce 6800 (YES 6800). GPUs could do that since Shader Model 3.0. Developers are simply not using it.
TrickyEmu 1 year ago
@TrickyEmu maybe the performance to use it in real time is only now available?
WEKS87 1 year ago
@TrickyEmu
It uses tessellation in the hair simulation for dynamic geometry resolutions. Try getting tessellation on a 6800.
