Do any of you have any idea what deep thinkers these guys are and how INCREDIBLY subversive they are? This is not about music. omg. Fucking geniuses!!!
@DTD110865 you must be in your twenties. B&W, whatever format, 8mm, 16mm is cheaper and more accesable. This looks like video, which leads one to believe either the color has bled from this vid or it was just shot that way. What a strange comment.
No, I'm in my forties, and yes I realized B&W 8mm & 16 mm film was cheaper. Were it not for the fact that there were still average joes who were still using B&W home movies, it would irk me a lot more.

(BTW, I didn't want to delete this version of the message).
@Grandpaconway I've seen lots of fan taped vids of bands from the 70's that were taped in black and white. I am guessing that these were people with old Sony reel-to-reel video recorder setups who lugged their setups into the clubs and taped. Other examples of video like this are vids like Target's Cramps at Napa Asylum, Talking Heads at My Fathers Place, and B-52s in Atlanta 1978, most you can see here on youtube. I am so thankful that there were people to document these shows back then.
this makes up for all the meaningless, worthless crap that gets posted. performances like this one should be immortalized and preserved for ever and for all. thank you, DEVO ROCKS
You are a God for recording this for prosperity. Whoever you are! Thanks for posting! Can't imagine this would be available, at all, ever! Etch it in a gold disc!
holy sh*t, this video EXPLODES at 4:20. most people don't realize that Devo was a hard rocking punk band in the early days. this video definitely sets the record straight!
I had NO IDEA this song was that ANCIENT; I thought this came out in about 1983. That's when I first heard it! July 1977, I was climbing a tree overlooking my friends right where E. Wellesley Ave. met the Idaho border. (East Spokane near Post Falls, Idaho). I barely remember that tree, but I told everyone what to do to make a great "fort" where no one could find us.
@AIKevorkian If you like this you may like Wall Of Voodoo`s pre-pop stuff like Red Light & Can`t Make Love. Somewhat scary but Devo were the pioneers of New Wave, not punk! Let`s all get that strait. Can`t help you with that fort thingie though.
wow. so cool the tape was rolling for this. I saw DEVO in Nov 2009, and they played this with the same urgency, soul and fun as in this performance. Really rocked for the crowd. Great to see Bob 1 sing and play that great solo and hold up his muscles after breaking the string to end the 2nd solo.
The best part is that this is ONE vid that WMG (w t f) can't take down. That said, dear spuds and spudlets, do some comparison shopping: While it's still up (yeah, I'm tawkin' t' you jerkwads at WMG and KYTube), go check gadgetman2000's Smart Patrol posting over there in the pile -->
("KYTube" -- get it? shovin' WMG's pole in our holes ....)
i wonder when it was exactly that they became colour. it must be before this because the 'truth about de-evolution' video is older and in colour, they must have asked to be in black and white for this one. or the guy filming it was in black and white.
dude...dude.....dude....dude, holy shit....dude.........are you serious?? i would kill to have seen this show. apperently this was the first show they broke out a pair of the trademark 3D glasses from the filming of jocko homo. But of coarse, they started wearing them inside exposing the squares of film. fucking great
Yes, I'm serious. I saw them the first time they played at Max's. I tried to book them shortly after that, but no one knew who they were and I couldn't land them a gig. Soon after that, Bowie went to see them at Max's and they suddenly got very famous.
Yeah, I saw him outside his studio by pure chance while driving in LA. comparing his to mine, they were about -15.00 to about -20.00 strength, Im guessing.
It was quite an experience, I met him by chance, interrupted a mini photo shoot he was having in front of Mutato, and took a few great pictures with him. He seemed to be excited to see a spud under the age of 40 come to his studio just to see him " Im 15, so he was greatly pleased and had a huge grin on the whole time" Lovely guy, I nearly asked if I could go inside, but he is such a busy man, I wouldnt dare.
