  • Thank you so much! This was so helpful and as soon as I tried it, it worked; first time! Thank you!

  • Thanks, I am having a hard time with B flat as well. Just cannot hold the A-string tight enough.

  • thank you so much for posting this. the holding tip really helped. i'm still getting a really flat sounding f but i'm gonna keep on trying :)

  • Great video. I really liked the bit where you showed how to hold the neck of the ukulele. Very important tip, and I haven't seen any other youtube video mention it. Thanks!

  • This is my first time ever commenting on Youtube...But I just wanted to let you know that this is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. Now I can play all those songs in the key of F...

I thank you very much and I hope you are coming along well.

  • Gahh This helped soooo much! haha unfortunately, I still have to apply a crapload of pressure even with my finger on the side to get the buzzing out... And my thumb muscle thingy is really sore... newbie problems...

  • OK.. so Ive been playing for about a year.. but I keep running into this problem. anytime I play a "barred" chord (like B and Bb) the pressure I'm putting on the back of the ukueles neck hurts my thumb after a little while... Any advice? IT HURTS! I want to be able to play for hours! :]

  • @MrAarontothemax Same here, but i don't have nearly the same amount of experience!

  • less talking

  • SEEEEETH ROOOOGAAAAAN

  • dude you sooo are seth rogen

  • thank you, i was having this problem for a while..much appreciated, thanks

  • This was very helpful. Thank you. I really like video's from new people because they still remember all the new people problems and focus on them before they focus on more urbane problems.

  • oh my god, it's Seth Rogen!

thanks for the help and well....

    I'm a boss XD

    thanks again ;D

  • Thanks for that it really helped and it worked for me, now I can do b flat! yaya!

  • just saying, it is correct to put your thum on the left.

  • hey, well done!

I'm a newbie and was having difficulty finding that damned Bb... it diddnt occur to me to move my grip - once i did, Bb's are suddenly quite easy (though require a few fractions of a second to prepare for) i guess that will even out in time. Thanks again, Most helpful

  • Thank you your voice is really nice by the way, kind of like Seth Rogens :)

  • You hero - I've been trying to play this chord and injured my thumb failing to do so. Thank you so much!

  • are you seth rogen?

  • @vidowatcher91

Nope Sorry, not Seth, but glad I helped.

  • @markf3x you have to mak a video with a fro and say lines seth rogen say

  • Thanks, I actually was looking for a help with nailing a Bminor but for some reason did a youTube search for a Bflat. I usually have no problem playing the Bflat but kept watching your video to find that your advice actually fixed my Bminor! Thanks again

  • oh my gosh this helped me SOOOOOOOOOO much!

    thank youuuuu!

  • Thanx!

  • That really helped. I struggle with Bb the most and your tutorial made it happen. Thanks!

  • Wow! This could not have come at a better time. I was struggling with this same chord. Thanks so much

  • As if that's the fingering! HAVE I BEEN READING THE CHORDS WRONG

  • Thanks so much, it really helped me!

  • Thanks very much this was a big help!!

  • Thanks for this video. It really helped!

  • Thanks so much!

  • thank so much!!!

  • thank you. fantastic! the tip on rolling the pointer finger has helped me out here.

  • this helps so much! thank you!

  • Thank you so very much! This is excatly what i needed. I am still working on it but now I know how to get it!

  • this is really good stuff, you're a gifted teacher.

  • Thanks, helps a lot.

  • Thank you so much! Great video!

  • It didn't help. :(

  • Goodstuff...Thanks!!

  • Ah! So thats how you do it! Thanks!

  • omg i think i did it lol

  • Thanks I have really been struggling..You did not solve the problem, but helped...Mahalo

  • Thanks for the help!!

  • thank you! this video helped me figure it out this morning.

  • thanks!

  • thanks man i was looking for that chord

    super

  • man i'm still having trouble. I can't get enough pressure on the A string on the first fret

  • Look at the video at 1:58. I'm not sure if your doing this already, but to bar the first two strings with your pointer finger you should rotate it some. It is much easier to apply pressure with the side of your finger, rather tan bottom.

I tend to rotate a finger whenever I'm barring multiple strings to help apply more pressure.

  • @markf3x: Thanks for that rotation tip!! It was really helpful.

  • Do you still play other chords (C, G, and F for example) the old way, or have you since converted all you playing to the thumb on the back of the neck technique?

  • OMG Thank you so much! I just got a Uke for christmas and I'm trying to learn "All You Need is Love" and "First Day Of My Life" both of which have Bflats... I was going crazy trying to figure that one out! You're exactly right, it's hard to reach the strings when you're holding the ukulele wrong! haha! Anyway, it's going much smoother now thanks to you!!

  • you are awesomeness

  • oh sweet jesus, you just saved my pointer finger lol thanks man!

  • As I started this video I was goofing around with the b and was like man this feels easy and I realized I had moved my thumb behind the neck. Great tip!!

  • Thanks, now a lot more songs are within reach! BTW, WHAT is that snazzy ukulele?

  • This was exactly what I was looking for. I was also thinking that my index finger knuckle didn't bend back far enough. However I must use my pinky and ring fingers for the G and C strings. My middle finger won't reach the C string with my index finger tilted that much. My hands are 58 years old though. Anyway, thanks for this video, with your help, I can now play a B-Flat cord!

  • Thankyou. This really helped today. Please will you help with A minor next?

  • A Minor.... Brilliant idea. :)

Maybe right after I finish my current project...

I'm working on a cover of "Mi Perro Tiene Pulgas".. It's pretty much finished up, I'm just working on the TABS now.

    mark

  • I said A minor, but I actually meant A flat - (G #). Thats the one I'm struggling with at the moment. A minor is a one finger chord. I might be a beginner too but I think I've mastered that one. :-)

  • Ahhh... :)

    I thought you were joking!!

ps- I'm not really working on "Mi Perro Tiene Pulgas"... that's "My Dog has fleas" in spanish...

I'll play around with A flat.

  • Yeah, A flat is killing me, too.

  • Thanks. Makes perfect sense.

  • Excellent video, Mark. Took me far too long to discover that hand position for the B flat, and now it's so easy. Nice of you to pass it along.

  • Thank you. It's all B-flat now baby!

  • Nice looking uku!!

    Thanks for the tip!

    :)

  • Cheers Mark

I have struggled doing this for months and thought about breaking my fingers and having them reset.

    Thank you very much indeed

    Rob

  • i bar with the pointer which is probly wrong but it works for me,

    good video tho .

    keep on uke'ing

  • I feel like a moron now. It works! Thanks for posting this!

  • Yeah.. I felt the same way just a couple of weeks before you :)

Thanks for letting me know my video helped you.

  • Thanks for sharing Mark, no doubt others are having the same trouble. You might also try barring the first fret entirely with your pointer finger. That's the way that is most comfortable for me. Have fun!

  • Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try.

  • yeah, i jus learned this tonight! waaaay mo bettah!

thx for the vid mark! this was a tough transition i had to make too... once my muscles finally stopped cramping, havin ur thumb li'dat allows for much easier transition an proper string pressure.

good luck wid the play it forward contest

  • Thanks Mark,

Great advice for all the new players.

I'm glad the tabs and videos are helping in some way. Keep up the good work.

  • After playing for so long we forget things like this. This is a very legitimate lesson that many teachers mistakenly overlook.

    Great job!

  • Thanks. I didn't know if it was silly or not putting together such a simple lesson, but I figured if I had such a hard time, others are as well..

  • Thanks! My first impression was: "Man, that's a cool lookin' uke!" But, the thumb placement tip is also very helpful. I have similar problems with some other chords I'm learning as I transition from rank beginner to very weak intermediate!

  • Thank you for posting this video!

When I first picked up a uke last summer, this was one of the hardest chords for me to play too! Personally I like to bar the first fret and use my middle and ring fingers, the way that you showed. The idea of moving you thumb on the neck of you instrument is an idea that is common not only in the uke, but also when you play guitar or bass. Thanks again for the video and if you want to see a few of my songs, check out my channel.

  • thank you!

  • Wow, is that a Kerry Char ukulele? How do you like it?

  • Why yes, it is a Kerry Char tenor. I just purchased it. I'm a little embarrassed by it because it's kinda silly being a beginner with such a great uke, but hopefully I'll "grow" into it. :)

I put a Low-G set of strings on it, so I can be more like some of my youtube heros: TAFKAM1, etc).
