  • I think 'Isn't Anything' is the superior record.

And there was no 'shoegaze' scene. 'Shoe-gazer' was a humourous term used by the British music press.

  • @towerblockrock Of course, it wasn't write down into "Official Register Of Music Genres", so it don't exist. :)

That is how music generes/tags or even band names are created - some music journalist use new phrase as a joke. No one declare vivid border between what is and isn't genere.

  • Kevin said he wrote all of Loveless's songs by 1989.

  • 1991 *sigh*

  • horrible audio quality

  • you know, the term shoegazing doesn't have to be derogatory. embrace it, its what makes these guys stand out. they're the best out there

  • 0 dislikes perfect

  • @BullhornGuy may Jesus Christ send you to hell and may you be failure for the rest of your life oh wait you already are thank you God for listening to my prayerd

    amen

  • @11joshman Sorry He didn't answer it, He's not in the business of destruction, but LIFE.

  • @BullhornGuy next time listen to it un-muted. Asshole.

  • ignore the troll.

  • sounds like real shit... records are so much better... guess oyu had to be there...sitting here on youtube.. it sounds like...crap.

  • with all this band has been through, you should feel lucky to hear them at all. besides, it's awesome.

  • Loop,mbv ,spacemen 3 ,LSD and the search for god,Cathrine wheel,lush,slowdive,pale saints,Jesus and Mary chain,astrobrite,Bethany curve,a place to bury strangers,skywave,Brian Jonestown massacre,the smiths,furry things,

  • Great list. Ride and Swervedriver are also pretty amazing shoegazer bands worth checking out.

  • This and Neutral Milk Hotel are some of the biggest tragedies in recent music history. They both made two albums, one of which is a classic, the other is good, then they stop forever.

In The Aeroplane over the Sea and Loveless are both in my Top 5 Albums.

  • lol Stone Roses too

  • Granola, go listen to Kid Rock or some such BS and drown in it. Or in Northern Michigen. Maybe you take him with you.

  • what the fuck are you talking about man i love this shit - and spacemen 3 - living and dying by dream pop.. you guys are all just so precious about loveless.

  • d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-l-y is the best album ever

  • Loveless is the best album ever.

  • Isn't Anything is better

  • do caralho <3

  • lolwut

  • Debbie can do what she fucking wants... Don't stereotype about shoegaze bands. And for the record, MBV isn't shoegaze. So shut up...

  • Dude, MBV pretty much created the Shoegaze scene.

  • There is a distinction... Shields says that MBV is in no way a 'shoegaze' band and that the description is wrong. For my part, and I'm a radio DJ who plays mostly shoegaze, MBV were an influence on the purported shoegaze 'scene' but Loveless dropped in 1991, and MBV were actually done before then. Original 'shoegaze' reached its peak in 1992 and the first wave was over by 1994. So its complicated... but they weren't 'shoegaze'...

  • There were some genuine shoegaze albums before 1991. You can't be so picky about years with stuff like this. Its a lot more fluid than that. Peak=/=genre

That'd be like saying that the Cro-Mags weren't hardcore cause hardcore was pretty much dead by the end of 84.

  • I'm just citing what Shields has said. i wouldn't want to second guess him. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, personally this is how I approach MBV, in fact I did a show last fall analyzing this whole phenomenon, and callers agreed with me for the most part. And don't cite the Cro-Mags, this is an MBV video son.

  • I was just mentioning that they are an important hardcore band despite coming after hardcore was pretty much dead. You'd never call them "nucore" would you?

I guess if he said that, it must have some credence. I wasn't there, its just that everything I've heard about it characterizes it as a late-80's/early-90's scene. Thats all.

  • Doesn't really matter where they had most of their career. They released Loveless in 1991. That is all that matters.

  • no fucken chance in hell man you gotta listen to the lead up. some of those eps are so much more satisfying.

  • Yeah? I have Isn't Anything and I don't like it all that much. Are the EPs at all like that?

  • Sorta, GEEK! is very jesus and mary chains sounding

  • I agree with you. Loveless is a good first album to get started on but then you should branch out to the older albums. This Is Your Bloody Valentine is brilliant, along with The New Record By. Personally, I think it's a lot better than Loveless, Everything they actually have done is just incredible.

  • those are really EPs, and the EPs get far better than those in my opinion! But yes, whilst you're limited to two proper albums with isn't anything, the EPs are well worth seeking out! Tremolo is tasty

  • Ecstasy is more so of an album along with This Is Your Bloody Valentine. So brilliant.

  • they're all incredible, I see them all as albums just cause they stand out in their own individual ways! (Please) Lose yourself in me makes me drool

  • Agreed! I really enjoy "Strawberry Wine". The way that song is structured is incredible. Wow.

  • Nice job responding to a 9 month old post.

  • What's the acceptblae time limit, fatty?

  • Why do you think I'm fat?

I dunno, I try not to respond to posts that are older than a month or two. People usually change a bit after 9 months.

  • eggs

  • @stillmoonmachine shoegaze :)

  • For a "DJ who plays mostly shoegaze" your knowledge about the scene appears to be severely lacking.

  • Comment removed

  • In what respect?

In my opinion, the entire notion of a shoegaze 'scene' is fairly misleading. People can get lost in the relevance of labels; would you say that Ride, Lush, The Veldt, Catherine Wheel, Swervedriver and Chapterhouse are all shoegaze? They have all been labeled as such in the past, but such indiscriminate labeling has degraded the relevance of the 'shoegaze' genre considerably. And there have been multiple movements since that could also be called shoegaze

  • maybe we should all consult the 'wideheadofknowledge' more. you sound like such a dickhead. the dickheadofbullshit maybe

  • @stillmoonmachine So those bands just existed in a 4th demention? Who gives a tish what you think was a "scene"

Catherine Whells Chrome album was an absolute beaut anyway.

  • fucken eh they're just dreamier pop

  • I don't know much about the genre of shoegaze, but i have always seen MBV as the archetype shoegaze band.

  • @stillmoonmachine

what are u frustrated about anyway...just enjoy that good music

  • well if you were playing one kickass bassline, wouldnt you rock the hell out? i sure would

  • Orgásmico !

  • fuuuuuuuking nice love that noiiiiiseeeeee

  • please.....vengan pa puerto ricooooo

  • Holy shit!!! So good.

  • It's hard to call MBV shoegaze once you've seen Debbie play bass live...

  • anybody know if they have ever played loomer live?

  • belinda still sweet as before :D

  • only one criticism of the gig i saw - too quiet. not nearly enough like standing inside a jet engine until You Made Me Realise.

still heavenly though. love them forever.

  • i agree, i saw that benicassim this summer, and though it was loud, it wasnt mbv ear splitting loud until the final 10 minutes

however im not disapointed, i got to see a rare performance of one of the worlds greatest bands!

  • thats amazing

  • God, i cannot wait, 9 days!!!!

  • Thanks for adding the better sound to kirkj31's video recording! I still can't believe I'm going to be watching them play tomorrow night. This is awesome!!!!!!!!

  • muito foda!

  • lucky!!. . . i still have to wait for the september show!

  • great!

i like the pre-song noise, it's like Medicine.

  • medicine was just one of many bands that discovered noise through mbv sound.

  • I think Medicine was the only band to do it well enough to really be mentioned in the same sentence as MBV. MBV elements are there, certainly, but they had a slightly different approach. Both bands were fantastic, either way you cut it. MBV and Medicine albums are some of the very faves in my collection.
