Many have intimated her but none have ever copied that wonderful pure voice, gabrielle931 I totally agree with you. Listen to the purity in that voice.
I think Patsy sang this song good, but the band backing her, was just to mellow, or maybe to much of a Jazz sound, for her, because when she recorded it, she did a GREAT job on it!!!! I liked her version of the song, more than Hank Williams original verson!!!
'Pop' is short for popular. So whatever music that is poplular is considered pop for that time period. The difference between pop now and pop back then is that pop back then was really good music, today the poplular music is crap. So yes she was a pop singer but not in the sense that most people would think.
I hope no one gets mad, but I like her country version better, which she put on record. She was amazing in any genre- and this works as a Pop tune too, but it loses a bit of its soul.
You don't get orchestrations like this anymore. Listen to that clarinet respond to Patsy's incredible phrasing. Who'd've thunk the 50s could've had so much soul?
What a great voice - simply unique!

Her live recording in front of an audience is so much better than studio recordings from pop singers today.

I like this . But her Country version is far superior. She had to sing the watered-down pop version to appeal to the Yankees up there in New York.

@jedaiahredden -- I never knew that "pop" was short for "popular!" Wow, you learn something new every day! Thanks for the heads-up.

She considered first and formost a country singer, that was some times forced t sing the bland Pop drivel of that Era.
