I live in a partially muslim country. I have arab friends and I know by fact they can only understand written maghreb arabic while west-north-african arabs speak both their local dialect and classic arabic.

It's not just a matter of accents. for example: In classic arabic there is 3alek(upon you masculine singular) and 3aleki(upon you feminin singular). morrocan, algerian and tunisian arabic uses "3alek" for both feminin and masculine compliments! same goes for other prepositions.
