Church is held every 2 weeks and it rotates from house to house so everyone holds church at their home at some point. Mennonites are the more liberal of the amish orders and they may have cars,phones,computers but they still have a very strong christian faith but they are less resistant to technology. I drive the amish around on a regular basis when a trip is too far for a buggy so I've learned a lot about them but at one time was as ignorant about them as some others on here.
The are One of the best People because of their simplicity and not leaving the old tradition. and are trying their best to live a life which is much calm and not loud so that their souls can have peace always.
As I understand it, the Amish live the life style they do so as to learn to be grateful and thankful for what they have.
Hard work is said to help one understand this but, not impossibly hard work, after all they are not being punished. Electricity can make one lazy and allow you to loose sight of "The Path" but, they can get special permission from their Bishop in some cases to use a more modern technology such as electricity and modern medicine. They're not living in the stone age, after all.

@gato123452 And that shows just how ignorant you are they get an excellent education and the children speak 2 languages and can read in 3 languages english,amish,high german because amish is a different dialect than german but most of their religious books are written in german and I live among an amish settlement they are the nicest people I ever met with no crime in their midst and everyone works for their keep not wait for government handouts they also pay double school taxes theirs and ours

Very good post. We have an amount od Amish that we live by. I think they are very good people. They tend to stay to themselves and are good neighbors. For the folks who do not know.the Amish are very hardworking as well.

@doril4 While it is possible to convert to the Amish faith it is very rarely done. Typically if someone is interested the Amish require them to live the lifestyle for quite a period of time before they are accepted. I have heard of only one successful conversion, an older man that very familar with the Amish and married an Amish widow.

@DVDluvr123 if u look at the evolution of the faith amish and mennonite came from the same source anabaptist they just broke into differnt sects because they didnt agree with certain leaders interpretations
@DVDluvr123 amish and mennonites are the same thing my husband was brought up mennonite I wouldn't see a difference in the isolation factor myself...and yes they are very legalistic christians...the only thing she got wrong was saying they didn't have washers they use generators to power them...they also have cell phones...
