  • Please can anyone who's been to this venue tell me a bit about it. I'm wanting to see a band in one of two places here and the 02 Academy in liverpool. This place seems to have a bit of history and would probably be a lot better. whereas their liverpool date has an extra band on :/ Help?

  • @OGARAINTDEAD Nottingham Rock City is an awesome venue..my old band played there as part of a 5 week tour in 2006..we played the stage Nirvana are playing on here (main stage) and there was other bands playing the smaller stage which is accross the hallway (The Basement) and there is also another stage call The rig. The capacity is just under 2500 ( not sure if thats all 3 rooms or just the main stage) awesome venue..who are you seeing there?

  • England really loved Nirvana. They really loved them during the bleach era too.

  • he says music IS art :P x

  • ... umm grunge isnt a genre.. if you listen to grunge bands they have similar things but they arnt the sae genre. grunge was a label given to a group of people

  • Yes. Grunge is a sound of guitars, and attitude maybe fashion, but music? Nirvana background was Punk Rock/ Indie. Soundgarden, AIC-Metal background, Per Jam Pop/Rock. Bands have nothing in common musically, the're just all from Seatlle. If not the whole Sub Pop crew (Tad, Modhoney etc.) i don't think it would be labbeled as Grunge.

  • @srekazinskas Never the less all those bands are amazing

  • lucky sod's getting too see em live .....ughhh would of loved it :P

  • Melvins is grunge, experimental, doom and sludge!!! nirvana was the first band 100% grunge

  • i guess you havent heard Green River then...

oh and you shouldnt call the melvins grunge cause Buzz will hunt you down and fuck your ear canal untl you die... just a word of advice.

  • PieceofMindmusic,

    Well Said.

  • God what are you like 5?

  • my sister ( to this day) is still sooo proud to tell all these young american girls on you tube or where ever (who were not even alive when kurt was alive) that she WAS actually at tTHIS concert................. BIG UP EMMA B the original grung head in England...

  • Stonkin'. Absolutely superb. You couldn't have asked for more off Nirvana, really.

  • I still pass through these doors every week for student night :D i love rock city it's awesome!

  • i think my dad was there

  • a great place to fuck is the back stairs that lead down to the basement. Is the rig still open, its a few years since i went to a club night. Sticky floors are where its at.

  • payaso de mierda!!! me rio en tu cara

  • Quick Grunge History Lesson. First off most in the scene just called it what it was, punk rock, not grunge. The first "grunge" band was Sound Garden though Green River was the most influential early band. Neil Young is considered the Godfather of Grunge. Nirvana really made Grunge mainstream though largely thanks to MTV. HYPE! is a good movie to watch if you're interested and these facts are welcome to be contested, I'm happy to admit I might be wrong but I know quite a bit on the subject.

  • I'm such a fan boy :(

  • First grunge band was the melvins dude

  • Heroin is hell of a drug

  • ive fucked so many birds at rock city its stupid...

  • Well they're not. They're grunge. They invented it.

  • Nirvana didnt invent Grunge Rock. They just made it a new. They made their own shit that wasnt grunge it was to them just rock.

  • Incorrect, they did not invent their genre. They only first made it commercially successful.

  • I suppose so, but most people when they think of grunge the first thing to come to their mind is Nirvana.

  • It really isn't punk rock.

Kurt Cobain was influenced a lot by punk bands such as black flag, but Nirvana is pop rock/grunge.

  • i have so much bands seen play live... i know it sure!
