I would have to say Karnivool is honestly one of the best/original bands of this time. And Sound Awake is so much deeper than their other albums. But I'm honestly glad that these guys haven't entered the mainstream, because an amazing band like this has wayyyy too much talent to become one of those overrated bands that people eventually get sick of. Really, I think these guys are at a pretty stable position in terms of popularity. This ladies and gentlemen is music at it's best.
@SaturnTwinCam If you like something, just press the damn like button, and don't press dislike because you want to be a fucking hipster who wants to be different :/
I just saw these guys a couple weeks ago in Seattle and they sound even better live!
No joke, they take all of what you see in this video (the vibe, energy, spot-on playing) and more with them to the stage. If you get the chance to check 'em out, do it!
Excellent. Just heard about them today from a friend telling me I'd like their music because I'm a big fan of Tool, and I'm not disappointed. As a bonus they expose the same bullshit being fed to us by country leaders (political, religious, corporate etc...) which is good to see. I hope people stop worshipping the music and start standing up for their rights, in the words of Bob Marley the Great haha... It's high time we stop being treated as sheep. Go Carnivool!
@rangasteel True that! They don't need to be ruined by all these teeny bopper dip shits that only listen to it because its popular not for how great the music is. Thats saved for Birds of Tokyo
@Kazpdrewt no way man, birds or tokyo was invented to get these guys the attention they deserve, this is not the type of band you like because they are popular, its too powerful
Sadly, a band as heavy as this will never make it mainstream in AUS, dito The Butterfly Effect. These are surely our two best modern rock exports of the last 10 years. Silverchair was our most successful heavy rock at of the last 20 years but had a much more radio friendly sound. In the US however the size and diversity of the market allows the 'mainstream' to be much a broader class. I fully expect the 'vool to be more appreciated over time in the US than here : (.
They oppose "The Great Triangle Club" most commonly referred to as the illuminated ones, the Hidden empire. Politicians and their evil sect.
They set fire to their own hive (the burning of rome, 911, financial meltdown)to rebuild the system again in a new fashion. Totalitarian rulers trying to finish and cap their pyramid.
They create fear and scarcity to make us fight with one another.
@31rS3RP3N7 Because this album took ages to get released stateside. They're poorly promoted label music. it's what happens. Sorta like how Butterfly Boucher finished an album ages ago, but her label won't let her release it. It doesn't help anyone, but they still do dumb shit like this.
@31rS3RP3N7 It's because mainstream society has shocking taste in music. I'm not saying this as a fan of this type of music (even though I AM a fan), but as a musician. Write a song with ZERO evidence of musical talent and you're bound to become a one-hit-wonder!
@31rS3RP3N7 Because there is no room for Rock bands of any form in mainstream (wrongly). It is full of pop crap which is simply put out to make money, there is no genuine talent within the music. There are too many douchébags in the world who don't appreciate good music!
@31rS3RP3N7 Cause Mainstream audiences are (in general) retards. Bullet For My Valentine have just struck in with them though, so maybe there is hope...
@31rS3RP3N7 They're too talented to be popular with anything mainstream man. It's sad but unfortunately thats how things go. The innovative bands are the ones who get shafted.
@froggerchanovsky well if you listen to the persona EP or thermata they were writing stuff that at least to me sounded like no other group i knew. but the moment i heard sound awake the became just another hard rock band with the exception of a song or two. i dunno just an opinion. besides that i hope they dont take to long releasing another album because i still love their music none the less
@lukegoerzen I much prefer Sound Awake. Themata sounded like a bunch of songs thrown together and put on a CD, whereas Sound Awake flows better as an album, as the songs blend into one body of work rather than one individual song after the other. I also like that they've ditched conventional song structure - the songs take so many unexpected and interesting twists and turns, yet it sounds completely cohesive - whereas a lot of progressive rock seems somewhat forced in that regard.
@froggerchanovsky actually... now that you mention it that may have been what i didnt like. its sense of flow i mean. at the same time that theyve all got their own distinct sound i found listening to the album they all just blurred together and didnt grab your attention. where as themata had the differentiation between songs but it made each of them sound new and original really grabbing your attention. also thematas instrumental songs i quite miss and kindof felt let down by change part 2.
@lukegoerzen Really? I have to say that when I first listened to it, it wasn't what I was expecting out of Change part 1. But it became one of my favourite tracks on the album.
Jon Stockman said that "Themata is an album of hooks, whereas Sound Awake is an album of lures". This is what makes it ultimately rewarding to listen to - it doesn't slap you across the face with an onslaught of guitar solos and riffs, but contains a lot of hidden intricacies that you slowly discover on repeated listefd.
@froggerchanovsky yeah. i guess to say "letdown" is a bit to harsh. its my favourite song on the album aswell. and i just re-listened to the whole album but i still cant shake the feeling i get from songs like "cote" or "shutterspeed" and "roquefort with horn guests" slight change in style and i just love "scarabs" as well. but change part2 and goliath are the only two songs on the new album i could really attach myself to...
@lukegoerzen That's fair enough, although I can say that I love most of the tracks, except for The Medicine Wears Off and Illumine which don't really do anything for me.
Where the hell has the 720p version gone?

The reason this band isn't well known is this:
They oppose "The Great Triangle Club" most commonly referred to as the illuminated ones, the Hidden empire. Politicians and their evil sect.
They set fire to their own hive (the burning of rome, 911, financial meltdown)to rebuild the system again in a new fashion. Totalitarian rulers trying to finish and cap their pyramid.
They create fear and scarcity to make us fight with one another.
Basically, this song is a direct call to action.
