  • This song is just amazing. I believe that Gloria was the lead singer

  • Roberta Martin

  • It's a blessing to hear this. It brings back beautiful memories of when my mother used to sing this song at the wooden church we attended during my childhood. She too, like Roberta had that beautiful full contralto voice. God called mama home on Sun. Jan.9, 2011. Let's keep my mom, Roberta and other gospel singers alive in our memories and for generations to come, by never letting these songs die. I'll sing a few new ones but I will sing the old soul stirring gospel until I can't anymore.

  • Thank you Jesus for Specializes

  • Mama used to get on the piano at home and just began to play and sing this song when I was a little girl. What a blessing to hear this again. This is when gospel was truly real. Thank you so much for posting.

  • Thank you for posting this. My mothers favorite song. She would sing this to me when I was a young boy. I havent heard this song in years. With tears falling from my eyes; this song made my day. Thank you!

  • Thanks for posting this. It heals like medicine.

  • THIS IS SUCH A TOUCHING SONG NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES U HERE IT

  • It is gospel songs like this, that makes you fall deeper in love with Christ and more grateful for His saving and keeping power. God is faithful and His power endureth forever. I love the Lord!

  • Another great gospel song that I listened to as a child from years ago. Thanks for sharing this good gospel music. God Bless!

    Robbi W

  • I love this song

  • yes he will do what no other God can do

  • Simply beautiful!

  • Hallelujah! This is the music that was the background to my early life. My great-grand, my grand, and my Mama sang these songs. . . blessed our lives, pointed us to Jesus, and gave us prupose. GOD INDEED SPECIALIZES!!!

  • I love this song and know it to be true. Glory to God.

  • We used to sing this all of the time back in the day! Thanks for posting!

  • My Mother sang this song to to me when i was a child. It still sounds good,

  • Is Deloris Barrett in this picture?

  • I hope this touched you all like it has touched. Please stay encouraged.

  • Wow her tone is just ...wow. Thank you for this.

  • GLORY! GLORY! GLORY!

  • LORD JESUS!!!!!!!

  • Babygirlfty, This is my favorite song,I sing this song at my church

  • still works!

    blessed be HIS name

  • Thank you for posting this group in general and this song in particular. This was my grandmother's favorite group! I remember sitting with her in the living room on Sunday's listening to this group on her "cassette tape" *smile*. God Bless You!!!!

  • These singers leave us too early

  • we still sing this song in my holiness church! I love it so much.... There's such an annointing in this old time gospel. I wouldn't trade it for anything else!

  • I love this song no matter who sings it or how it is done

  • It is a great song!

  • Which one is Gloria Griffin?

You know she sang with the Caravans from 1955-56 or somewhere around that time.

  • @jddrew1000 , Gloria is smack dab in the middle, standing between Roberta and Norsalus.

  • Whoa. Is she still alive?

    Who are the rest.

Are any of them still alive?

I do know Roberta died and Eugene just passed last year.

  • No, Gloria Griffin is dead. She died back in the mid-90's.

From left to right: I believe that's Romance Watson...then it's Roberta Martin, Gloria Griffin, Norsalus McKissick, Lucy Smith Collier, and Eugene Smith.

The only members that are still living are Delois Barrett Campbell, Romance Watson, and Anne Yancy. Also, I believe Lucy Smith is still alive, but last I heard, she wasn't in the best health.

  • @Rowoches That looks like Archie Dennis on the left.

  • @Rowoches Lucy Smith Collier (85) went home to be w/ The Lord Sept 19, 2010. She wrote & composed "What a Blessing in Jesus," & "Oh My Lord, What A Time." Interestingly her latter song was recently recorded by Bill Gaither.

Romance Watson is still singing & can be viewed on Youtube by Searching: "Pass Me Not" By Romance Watson & "Tis The Old Ship Of Zion" By Romance Watson.

  • @San47di1: Yes, she did pass recently. "Oh My Lord What A Time" has always been a popular song with some of the White quartets, and I tell ya, they really put their all in it too! People like the Famous Ward Singers, Christian Tabernacle, and several others have recorded the same song, but re-arranged it.

The only members of the group that are still around are Romance Watson, as you typed, Delois Barrett Campbell, & Anne Yancy.

  • i agree strongly with msmad2u, i also cant get away from this type gospel, seems like on a lot of these songs the singers and songwriters were just annoited!!!

  • The is the song my mother loved, it should go down the gospel hall of fame, simply beautiful

  • When was Romance Watson singin with this group ???

  • @HCFan39 , Romance Watson was with the group from 1949 to 1967, but only recorded with them in 1957 and in 1958.

  • This is a classic that should be enshrined in stone in the gospel walk of fame!!!!!

  • love this song.

  • i have 2 agree with thisis4e...Many have sang this same song, and no one does it the equal quality of justice as the famous Roberta Martin and the Roberta Martin Singers.

  • I grew up with this song. My Mom used to sing lead in the choir and the Pastor used to ask her to sing it for him. I am so glad you posted this song. It just made me feel so good because I'm in a storm in my life now and I somehow feel better. God Bless You.

  • thank God for traditional gospel singers. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the contemporary gospel music. But, the traditional gospel stirs up somethihg in your soul. I love it and it is what I listened to when I was a young child and even now as a grandmother. It's the old gospels that stil stir my soul.

  • Praise God, you said it so beautifully..............this is my type of gospel, and i cannot get away from it.

  • I love this song. GOd Bless

  • Thanks so much for posting this song makes me remember when I was a boy and didn't understand what they were singing about but thank God I UNDERSTAND NOW!!!!

  • I've heard may versions of this song, but no one can sing it like Roberta Martin and Singers.

  • my grandmother used to sing this...sounded just like this....

    thanks for posting it.

  • Thanks the posting this song....May God richly bless you!

  • A little trivia: God Specializes is based on the chorus of Oscar C. Eliasons God Any Rivers? (1929).

  • thank you Rowoches for your many postings of the classics. there aren't many places where one can hear the roots of gospel any more. i'm not saying people don't sing from their hearts today, but they certainly did back then, and they did not need a whole lot of trappings either.

  • This is music. So glad you had a recording.

  • Yes sir thats it

  • Rowoches, are music major? You can teach a course on the history. I wish more young people your age will long to hear the old songs. Keep it up. How about a internet radio broadcast?

  • Thanks for you comment. No, I'm not a music major, but I do enjoy music.

I've thought about doing an internet radio station, but first, I'd need a high-speed internet connection at home. We're still on the ancient dial-up. LOL!

  • Thanks for posting this song. I see some songs on youtube are later removed. Please do not remove this song. This song uplift me and my family.

  • Most times it's not up to the us when it comes to removing songs. Many songs are automatically removed b/c of copyright claims. So, as long as copyright claims aren't made against this, it will be up here til Jesus comes back! (smile)

    Glad you enjoyed!

  • God bless you

  • This is a beautiful rendition of this old Gospel song. And Gospel truth! Glory be to the holy name of Jesus!

  • you have to download these songs while you have a chance.

  • Hi Sis,

I'm surprised to see you here. Here's a new flash..... if you listen to your brother on the radio you would here him playing these songs. In fact I played "God Specializes" just this past Saturday. Love ya!

  • True music ministry!

  • Oh Lord...this takes me back to the 1950's when I was a little girl, listening to this on the 78's-length vinyl at home...I'm crying so, I can hardly type this, dear Jesus...but thank you, bless Your name, for taking me victorious through the storms of life..thank you.

  • Yes SA!!

  • My father ended all his sermons with this song. I really needed to hear this song today and go back to my beginnings.

  • Beautiful, it sounds good and sang with so much annointing.

  • I'm so thankful that God still specializes, even in these troubled times. Thank you Jesus!

  • Thanks for posting a great song!

  • Yes this is my song. It really touches my heart my spirit, and soul. I can shout all day off it. I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite.

  • Of all of the gospel songs that I was brought up listening to, this song "God specializes" most touched my heart as a child and as an adult. I remember sitting on the porch in our little house listening to this song and singing this song and feeling the meaning of these words. Mellanese Bigsby Sims, Nashville, TN (Formally of Boyce Street Baptist Church).

  • Raystar here:In this picture from left to right i'm seeing Romance Watson:Roberta Martin:Gloria Griffin:Narsalus Mccissick:Little Lucy Smith:Eugene Smith(sitting and of no relation to lucy). This recording was released in 57' or 58'on Savoy.

  • Is delois Barrett Campbell singing on this clip, is she leading any songs with Roberta Martin Singers?

  • She's singing back-up on this song. The lead singer is Gloria Griffin.

There are several songs that Delois led with the Roberta Martin Singers.

  • She lead "Only a Look" in which is on Youtube, and she is singing it with Rev. James Cleveland, The Caravans, Gloria Griffin and some of the other Roberta Martin singers and a few others are mixed in as well. If you type search "Only a Look Retake" it will come up. Enjoy!!!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video with others! I truly thank God for those who carried the gospel music torch before us.

    dex (zm)

  • As a 32 yr old African-American male, I really appreciate the history, soul,& faith that the generations before us possesed which gave the world it's most beautiful music ever. I mean our foreparents,grand/greatgrandparents,etc.were so in sinc w/The Most High & nature that they were able to pour their souls into that music. I Love My People Man!!

  • Is that "Willie Webb" in that pic, dwayne?

  • my god what a powerful song GOD does Specializes

  • Thanks so much for posting!

  • I love this song. GOd Bless

  • what year was this??? was it in the 60's? is that roberta martin in the middle?

  • If I'm not mistaking, I believe it was recorded in 1958.

Roberta Martin is second from the left.

  • I'm 24 years old, and this song is old enough for my great-grandmother to remember, but I am IN LOVE with it!!

  • I sung this about two weeks ago!! Keep them coming!!

  • You've done it again! Good lookin' out brother! Thanks again.
