GAH!! The horns sound so beautiful and i have to learn first horn by tomorrow for a concert. I must do justice for this song and for Barbara! (and for horns everywhere)
We are playing this piece for our Christmas concert. It is such a beautiful song in the first place, and this kinda just personifies it with a wonderful-sounding band. I love this arrangement.
Now when we played this song for the 1st time... there was no conductor... he told us to feel the music and you will know what to do. and since that VERY first rehersal... we never used him at at State Festival... we go straight 1's and they had to come down off of their judging table and thank us personally... one was even crying. I wish I had the video of it :/
If you really like the horns you should listen to cajun folk songs 2 by frank ticheli, has amazing horn lead as well as some great solos (listen to both movements)
I'm 1st trumpet, in 9th grade, we were going to play it but our percussions section just can't play it right because they don't pay attention.
It's fairly easy as far as range, by my standards anyway, only goes up to an A, but it does require some precise counting and a good attention span. ;)
I played this in HS, and when I was a freshman my Math Teacher passed away :'( And our band director had us play it at our concert to honor him. There was NOT a dry eye in the room. We also played this again my sophomore year at another concert to honor another teacher who had passed away. :'( It was really moving! We dedicated our festival performance of this song to those teachers, it inspired us to play better!
I love, love, LOVE this arrangement of Amazing Grace. We played this song for our school's winter concert and for a concert with another town's school band. It's so beautiful! I play Alto Sax 2.
Very nice sound, guys. A little too slow for me (feels a little lethargic) and the balance is a bit off (ie flutes too overpowering over the top of the alto sax solo) but a very nicely played by solo players.
Is this a community band cos if it is, I'm impressed.
when i was in highschool, we played this a few times, the last time that the song was played by us and i believe by the school band there was for a fellow bandmate who got hit by a car saving his brother. everytime i hear it, it still gives me chills. i love this song on so many levels. i think that we we played it for a concert after he died, there wasnt a dry eye in the house.
Doing this song for our Symphonic Band and I would have the lead French Horn part but I broke my hand in baseball :/ Beutiful Band btw
