I remember this song i think the bloke singing is the only sensible one.The bloke playing the piano maybe he is from thunderbirds or it may be joe 90 grown up.
powerful lyrics and music - seems to be absent in todays music! first time heard in 25 years and yet still hum the tune along as it made such an impression at the time. in my early 80s music mixing days had the 12" and think there were 4 versions of this on it - look forward to someone uploading them
i love how the female ( sorry, i forgot her name ) sings her part and then thrashes around in danse ( 1:50 )....that made the entire video for me. stiil a great song.
Actually tommysax70 *I* also remember the mock battlements, and it *was* TOTP not the Saturday Superstore. I have vivid memories of it. I think it was John Peel introducing them... saying something like "and here making their debut performance on Top Of The Pops..." before panning across to the castle set up. Bizarrely, I think I've got ANOTHER version on VHS somewhere, though it might just be the first version here... I just don't remember the "effects". Great to see of course.
It's about a First World War propaganda film, I believe. The 12" version is superb, and worth tracking down if you can. Their only album Naked, as Mellotrongirl noted above, is quite brilliant. Big Man Restless is an incredible song....
God. The 80's were so crap. I grew up in the most embarrassing decade ever. A decade of Timmy Mallet lookalikes. I still have some photos of myself from the 80's. I look like such a prick. All REFLEX bars should be shut down Ha Ha!!!!!
you go through life trying to find things from your passed that for some reason you just dont forget, well this year has been brill iv got loads of old songs from my youth
( on the I POD of course ) and iv re met my first long term girlfriend from 1979/80 ( friends reunited) and we move in together very soon. after 28 years whod have thought this would happen. thanks for the post.
in my youth (many moons ago)at school everyone kept on about this song, and if you were really cool you had the 12" version.I heard it,bought it and i still love it as much today as i did then. One of those different ,timeless classics. thanks for posting.
sheer brilliance awesome track mind blowing amazing reminds me of primary 7 at school i was 12 great to see ur a god for putting this on here awesome amazing xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Crikey! I'd forgotten about this - getting old! Great tune at the time and quite different (pleasantly). To the You Tuber who posted the comment about Snooker - yes, you are right ( I remember that!).
why is it the classics are one hit wonders? or are they telling me lies? is that shettleston flute band playing in the background? I seem to remember them on a saturday bairns progame saying the name came from a game o' snooker but i'm certain it had to do with lcking
Hey, fantasic! Cheers! Only great song they did, but worth a whole 10 CDs worth of $hite bands. I'll keep on kissing the pink... Uh, if somebody tells me where it is...
They play a lot of 80s, Indie and Madchester at my gym. I'm 43. I like my gym.

A memorably understated performance from this introverted band.

Brilliant - one of those cult songs at school at the time, and then they did Never Too Late as well which was equally ace.
I dunno why but I cud've sworn that they performed this on TV on a mock-up castle battlements???
I was convinced about that, but if they didn't do it on TOTP then where would it have been?
