Around 2:50. He asks if there is some food. And then she says (the real Jen I think) "I think there´s only porridge and jelly!" (haha it was English enough for her to say.)
Looking good as a cellist! (forgets to do vibratos. Otherwise very credible.) But not her voice! (silly. Diminishes the magic. But I DO think it is her voice at 2:51-53.)
Supposedly, if the British accent is so disgusting to French filmmakers, then they shouldn't hire British actors. Jennifer is comedic gold. If they can't get that, then they should stuff it!
Does anyone have the DVD? I wonder if maybe there's another audio track where Jennifer actually gets to SPEAK, ha ha. It does look as if she is speaking, or at least mouthing, the words in French; the dub lines up very well.
For John Cleese though, in part two, it doesn't line up as well.
It makes me sad that we only got to hear her sexy voice say about three lines in this (part two included).
Both John Cleese and Jen Saunders' voices were dubbed.
I don't mean to be xenophobic; the French are quite "strict" with their language. If the English accent was too strong the directors would have been snubbed. This was most likely done to tailor to the French audience, not the International audience.
They should have had them speak their native languages and had a drubbed track or subs for those "suivre les lois du l'Académie Français" people. Would have made this more international...
The dubbing was a big mistake but, then again. If she didn't know much French I guess they had no choice. Her voice is beautiful, and they probably had to do the last thing they wanted to by dubbing. Saunders, you are as much of a brilliant serious actor as you are a comedian and writer. You keep doing all these different parts, writing shows and I simply cannot do anything else but love every single one of them. You are a real heroine, you make us British proud.
so there's no version with her real voice all the time? Love it when she plays the cello...(i jused to play for 9 years when i was younger...still a bit of melancholy there :))
maybe they dubbed her voice because she did it and her french didnt sound great....y would she be in this movie?? hahhah the last line before she walks out the door..at about 2:51, is her real voice.
She definitely did know the French lines. She probably does know French; most Europeans know more than one language. Remember France is about as far from England as Pennsylvania is from Indiana.
