They look like they are having fun... Iv'e always wanted to live in japan, or just see how the life of japan is, (or any foreign country). I'd think it be totally different because i live in Hawaii where its considered "Western Style". No uniforms, no tight population. We are a very poor funding so all this other things that are basic are not there.

Do you use translate on Google (no offence)?, or is this the average English learning quota for people in countries like Japan or Korea?

I am actually an American who was an English teacher at this school for some years. The English proficiency in Japan is actually fairly low since most people can get through their whole lives without having to use English.

@BoxInsideTheHouse Before I reply to your comment, let me first say I've lived in America all my life and I'm a graphic designer who works in setting typefaces and working with proofread artists. I can say with certainty your English is superb. I understood every word of it, and that's what matters. In some respects, your English is even better than fluent speakers, because you aren't falling into the trap of using Internet slang.
In my opinion, your English is great. Don't worry about it.
Man, this reminds me so much of when I was in elementary school in the Philippines. The desks were the same, we also had to clean up, there was a lot of memorization we had to do, cute boys (LOL), it was the teachers who would switch from class to class instead of students, and it was natural for everyone to brush their teeth after eating. But we had knee length skirts. xD I'm not sure about high school though.

@gabbie363 For most students, I don't think it is very fun but some seem to enjoy it. Boys usually try to make it fun by racing their friends. It is just a fact of their school lives so they accept it. They have been doing it almost every day since they were tiny.

@belita101 You can find the book on amazon.com. As for Ichi the killer, I couldn't agree more about the merits of the movie. Miike Takahashi, the director, is one of my favorite directors of all time. A knowledge of film history (Japanese and otherwise) and of Japanese culture help to understand his films but aren't necessary. Outside of Japan, he has like 30 titles on netflix or you might try an artsy dvd rental shop or (illegally) a torrent search online.

Japanese schools put the west to shame, as a European I've felt truly ashamed to see how schools are in England compared to how they are in Japan. Japanese kids are taught proper discipline and proper respect, and this is why the crime rate of Tokyo is very low, 2 stabbing deaths in Tokyo in 2009 compare that to 26 in London!!!

@heatslap. thanks but where can i get this book, and yeah the only movie i have seen that is close to being based on yakuza is Crows and Ichi the killer(if you have not seen Ichi the Killer i highly suggest you watch it and if you have pleease tell where to get it the only one i saw was the dubbed one, which does not help me with anything) thank you

@belita101 You can find the book on amazon.com. As for Ichi the killer, I couldn't agree more about the merits of the movie. Miike Takahashi, the director, is one of my favorite directors of all time. A knowledge of film history (Japanese and otherwise) and of Japanese culture help to understand his films but aren't necessary. Outside of Japan, he has like 30 titles on netflix or you might try an artsy dvd rental shop or (illegally) a torrent search online.

Japanese schools put the west to shame, as a European I've felt truly ashamed to see how schools are in England compared to how they are in Japan. Japanese kids are taught proper discipline and proper respect, and this is why the crime rate of Tokyo is very low, 2 stabbing deaths in Tokyo in 2009 compare that to 26 in London!!!

To all of you talking about us school systems, they plain suck. They would rather buy new stadiums or crappy computers than spend it on quality education. And ppl are so spoiled cuz their parents don't care what their kid does in school or on the streets. No child left behind was a stupid thing to do, the us govert is not very good at thinking things through.
