  • you're better off with an axe. this novelty crap all turns out to be a waste of time and money in the end

  • The best survival tool in my opinion is a chainsaw

  • @TheSikiciCocuk until you run out of gas

  • @aseglkj

One which is being operated by solar energy ofc

  • I have one . It's a heavy beast with a strong edge .. Doesn't sharpen like a razor though. I can trust my life on this .. Never to break! Very heavy in the hand .. Horrible at typical machete tasks . Fine at heavy knife task .. No doubt ,it is one heavy knife that can be 100 percent trusted (that's saying alot) . Correct me if you know .. The Sawback is for metel . It's a search and rescue tool by design . Note the pry bar . It's more geared towards bush pilots etc . And it made i

  • Do you still have the SP8? I'm wondering if we're supposed to rock the sawback side to side to mimic an offset on the teeth like would be found in a normal saw. I've given all my sawbacks away.

I hate them because all they do is shatter batons. But if the back can work, then the SP8 might be the tool I'm hunting for.

Do you mind trying it out?

  • You should check somthing out called a sanvic blade its real nice too! loggers use them. you dont have to chop as hard either although you can't pry with them!

  • that's not a machete, it's a chainsaw.

  • what butter are you useing if you need a machete to chop through?

  • @mrsvinarich26 what the heck? lol

  • @TheOutdoorsman07 first wow for replying to a 2 month old comment and he used the figure of speech chops through this wood like butter

  • @mrsvinarich26 yes he just phrased it weird.

  • 1:41 won't that fuck up the blade?

  • I purchased the SP8 a while back and I think it's great. I am still looking for a mod for the saw back.

  • GREAT REAL LIFE VIDEO. That Sp8 is one SERIOUS Chopper/Battoning machine. I'm sure it's better than RTAK 2 even. Seems to be the ultimate large survival knife.

  • nice video

  • Very nice!!

Best wishes to Dave make the $ while u can!!!!!

  • 5:39

i would kneel down to do that guys.

  • I've had one of these for a couple of years, and I love it, definately the work horse around camp, it goes with me if I can afford the extra weight everytime. nice vid!

  • I find this blade style (with thick back ofc) and a khukri best choopers next to an axe. Very good vid, I just might get me one of these.

  • white people should see this

  • Hey guys, lets not get roped in by this sweetypie guy. He obviously has nothing of value to add to the conversation here. His comments are evidence that he lacks knowledge of what goes on between Dave and his students. Lacking knowledge, wisdom will continue to elude him and understanding thus becomes unattainable. If a man chooses to be ignorant, let him be ignorant. What I see here is a whinning little baby screaming for attention. He wants you to argue with him. Pacify him if you want to.

  • @schmitenhauser Exactly. The only attention he can get is negative, don't give it to him. We know Dave and what he has done for us along with what he has done for the multitude of others.

  • i think you guys lust over Dave.

i think you all envisage being trapped in a remote jungle with him protecting you from the elements and cuddling up close to him for bodily warmth. You want him as your Tarzan, you Jane.

Well, it sure sound like that but on the whole sounds like you want to marry him and stick your tongue down his throat ! yucky !

may i wish you luck in your mission to secure Dave as your lover and protector

  • of course the funniest thing about all these survival videos is that 99% of the people into outdoors survival would be dead in a week in the real outside fending for themselves

but not too worry - buy some shit yu'll never use and feel like Rambo ! lmao

everyone wants to be a ray mears and bear grylls ha ha ha POOFS !

    :D

  • @sweetypie000

Why are you so full of negativity and jealousy?

Dave respects his contract. His word has value.

He sold out nothing. True we miss his insight and regular videos but a man must do what is right for his family first and foremost.

If you can't respect family first you are a sad person.

I wish you well but please stop the negative tirade.

  • @osgkar oic, because someone dislikes sellouts and youtube being used to cram in as many adverts and equipment 'available in the shop' stuff people like me are full of negativety and jealousy? lmao

no doubt if he were black i'd be a racist too ?

people may miss Dave's videos but clearly he dosent miss you all - where is he ? lol

family first is cool but the idea is to put the truth first to say you are putting your family first

tirade ? lmao i'm being nice

  • @sweetypie000 If you can't see your posts as negative you are not being very honest with yourself. Dave had been completely truthful if you watched his videos regularly you would see what he had to say about why he made his choices. Good luck with your channel and may you earn as much sucsess as your effort deserves.

  • Sour grapes maybe?

  • Nice blade Rob. Makes me want to rethink my Kukri Machete approach :) great Video as always.

  • lol. doing that with desert ironwood would destroy that thing.

  • 53 hits to cut through it not cool

  • @etekballer14 i think it's his technique

  • I bought one of these years ago. I use when I camp to baton logs that are 5" diameter, on average. It's an awesome tool.

  • The older SP8 has a different saw on the back

  • a bit heafty for me. nice pry end though.

  • Notice that it made dust with the saw if u put them in a pill n it dries out completly u the just made a tinder for a fire just use a flint

  • I personally like the blade if you can get by with the weight! What took you so long to offer it?

  • @wilcox1219 I just had a chance to use one, but once I did, I had to offer it on the site, it is a great Tool!

  • Breakin sticks....

  • Hey nice job on the video! Oh and I was also wondering if Dave is ever coming back?

  • @Tizzacious Dave won't be back on Youtube for about two years. He is offering classes on his down time though, check them out.

  • @sweetypie000 Cut Dave some slack, his hard work got him where is as well. The guy has like 10 mouths to feed. It killed him to not be able to do video on youtube, but he had to what was best for his family. He still makes videos, but they are in his virtual classroom now. The cat was almost in tears on his last vid he made for youtube - that's Gratitude!

  • @canteencorner if thy arm offends thee - cut it off

yeah sure, i bet he's gutted at Discoverys offer lmao

good luck to him i guess but it's a pity many people have turned into the corporate face of Google - that's not what youtube was about.

mind you, once those kids sold it that was the day the music died - in more ways than one

not sure what 'gratitude' people are supposed to show him btw, he obviously came to youtube with a plan to go corporate so where is his gratitude to the people?

  • @sweetypie000 You're completely off base with your opinion of what Dave has done or is doing. The guy is one of my best friends, and I am sure if someone offered you your dream that you worked hard to achieve, you wouldn't make some hard life choices to make it a reality. Do what you want with your opinions on this, just don't post them here. I won't have anyone insulting someone who has done so much for so many. The guy does Charity work like crazy for kids, and folks with disabilities.

  • @canteencorner maybe he should of said his intentions from the start that he's get a fan base, make good videos then go straight to dvd

i don't know how i am subscribed to you because i unsubbed to canterbury as i fdont like sell outs, bye, unsubbed

  • @canteencorner Now that's a friend defending a friend if I ever heard one.... :) FTW ...... Friends and family over all......!!!

  • @sweetypie000

How many videos have you posted sharing your “Extensive” knowledge with others.

Instead of trying to raise your own opinion of yourself by trashing somebody that has made good, why not put that energy into trying to help someone else??

  • @BushcraftBill how many videos ? none because firstly making survival videos is not what i do and secondly i have a full time job and dont have to rely on youtube

but if i did make videos my information would be free - as all information should be free. i know many people with thousands and thousands of subs that refuse even to have adverts on their videos even if it means their 10 kids starve

anyhow, i've made my views clear enough - i don't like how some people exit YT. have a nice day

    :)

  • @sweetypie000 How many videos have you posted sharing your “Extensive” knowledge with others. Oh, Two you say, and you took the video from somewhere else instead of creating it.

  • @BushcraftBill hi chubs, i dont think you understand the concept of youtube. I'm a contributor of comments not videos. My comments, whether you agree or not (i'm not here to entertain), are and always will be free and no amount of money (or a corporation) will change my principles or values

    :)

  • @sweetypie000 while you are entitled to your opinion, you are also entitled to be wrong. I know that you post things like this because you get off on matching wits with people and getting them fired up, but trust me, you are not in the right playground for that with this group. We all admire Dave, yes, and we trust him and hold him in high regards not because he is famous, but because he is still the same down to earth person he always was. Not scoot along, and troll another page for a bit.

  • @sweetypie000 It's called CAPATILISM! I am guessing by your spelling of "colours" you are some sort of euro-trash/canadian socialist. No wonder you dont 'get' the bushcraft mentality. It's about self-sufficiency and providing for yourself!

  • @idtrapper i've lived in the bush more times than you're had hot dinners

    capatilism sucks then

  • @sweetypie000 LOL some how I doubt that! ALL my dinners are hot!

Capitilism does not suck, Dave Canterbury's success demonstrates that you can have a plan and be successful doing what you love. No other system on earth makes that possible.

Just like you enjoy being a whining, complaining socialist

  • @sweetypie000 What silly talk, nonsence is what it is. The fellow has to make a living like everyone else and I for one don't blame him.

  • @sweetypie000

I'm sure it is due to contractual agreements with the show and network.

  • @sweetypie000

Why is wanting more for oneself and one's family selling out?

  • Nice Machete, I thought about purchasing one the other day when I ordered all that other stuff from Canteenshop but I have so many Machetes and I actually didn't look close enough at it. I thought the saw teeth ran the entire back length of the blade. Which would have been a negative for me due to the inability to use it to split smaller logs e.g. Batoning.

  • lol might want to wear a cup next time you test a blade like that lol

  • Hot steel! I like it too! Thanks for the great demo guys!

  • @wawhiker THX wawhiker more to come soon. Rob has a schmorgasborg of stuff to review, however, he's preppin for the Pathfinder Gathering too. btw - I'm the other guy in the vid.

  • I had to reprofile mine to get it to cut the way that I wanted , it came with the cutting angle way to steep...but after the reprofiling I love ... I cut through a large pine that had fallen across a trail [about 16 inches across] it took about a hour to make both cuts ... would not have atempted with a survival knife ... good vid ... God bless ...

  • I have one of these and I think it is a GREAT tool!! I take mine anytime i'm out in the woods. If I had just one tool with me I hope it would be this, that's how much I love mine. Great review Rob and nice to see that you are carrying this now.

  • How heavy is that crowbar. Would you take that with you where ever you went? or would you carry a axe / hatchet?

  • @79outlaw I think its around 20 ounces

  • @MrCableguyken 20oz is actualy not that bad. It looks alot heavier though are you sure?

  • so ,, its basically a golok.

  • nice review i have the bowie and love it are you going to be sell ontario knifes on the site

  • @187plumber Its for sale now

  • Real nice!

  • I have had one of these for quite a few years now, and it has never let me down. It basically replaces a camp ax in my pack. It works great for batoning kindling at home for the fireplace or in the woods for small stoves. Great review of a great knife.

  • Awesome Blade!!

  • sweet

  • Nice !!!

  • i want one!!!

  • I like it!

  • Hi Robert.

Really good review. I have had my SP8 for quite a few years now and it has never let me down. But just a week ago I modified it to be a it more user friendly for me. It now resembles more of a Golok machete. I totally removed the saw back on it as I found it pretty much useless for my needs. I use my Bacho Laplander for notching.

    If its ok with you.

I will add my SP8 modification video as a video reply.

    5* for the review.

    Rob.

  • lol... that medication sounds like some good stuff!

  • cool man

  • very cool
