One of my favorites as a child back in the 60s. Because my brother and I could draw and we were poor, we made cutout cardboard robots of Gigantor and the villians he faced and played with them for hours. Imagination was key.
This was my favorite cartoon of all times, and then Speed Racer. I remember watching this cartoon when i was like 5 years old(43 years ago). My sister use to make me take a nap just before it came on because she wanted to watch the stories. I used to fight her over this cartoon, even though she mostly won.
@sharkskinboy= I don't know...I have 2 other theories: 1)his mind (like mine) is blown=WTF?by the themesong's left turn into a happy/crazy calypso beat@0:20(2)right before that@25 (they sing his power is at your command) the boy sends a signal to Big G & THEN he goes all batshit on the jet seconds later. So I blame the man, not the machine. I can hear Gigantor muttering beneath his breath after the incident since he KNOWS he's gonna take the blame for his controlling master. Poor bastard!
I use to sing this song while working in the garage. My wife asked me once where I got it. I told her all about the cartoons that I watched. She had never seen it so she couldnt really appreciate. It wasnt until youtube came out that I was able to actually show her and my kids these great cartoons. Thank you youtube!
it is also, a little sick, to assume, a little kid with a giant robot to control, is going to know, what is good, and what is evil. as if, that were always so black and white, and, easy to determine in the world, real or otherwise.
it sounds as much, a toy comercial jingle,as anything else. i remember this as a llitle tot. sounds a little, like a creepy take[with the deep ghoul like voices] of a western notion, of polynesian music. wasn't this animated in japan,if i'm not mistaken?
Not gonna lie this scared the shit outta me when i first heard it. for some reason it was playing at like 3 in the am and my tv was at max volume and this theme came on. I thought i was about to get speared by an african tribe.
@InvaderZim897 ......I used to laugh because it starts so potentially scary, but then goes into a happy jingle likes the killer is your buddy. La-la-la-la......he's crushing your town ! GYE GANN TORRR
@MrSpitback Haha its because of the drums in the background just made me imagine a zulu tribe banging on some tribal drums getting ready for war. Scared the fuck outta me.
@Mugen123456789 Ok i got you, it had just the opposite affect on me. I loved the intro song as a kid. The intro to Gigantor and Speed Racer always stirred serious feelings inside me. It was like i was in a trance whenever i watched the intro as a kid.
In Late 70's and early 80's there was a rap (the cold crush brothers) group that sampled this intro and i thought they were real kool.
Just think of what a rotten little kid could do with a robot like that at his command.
Every time I get into my brand spankin' new work truck this theme runs through my head. The thing is a tank. You'd think a County government would be trying to save money, there was nothing wrong with my cute little '03 truck, but NO, I have to get a 2011 behemoth, darn it.
@MarcellusTheGreen You are almost near the truth. The two are brothers! The creator of Gigantor(Ironman28), also created Giant Robot! Gigantor is the first of the Anime giant robo series.
You'd think that as long as they were drawing Gigantor to their own specifications, that they'd have made him a lot less portly. Why did they give him the same figure as Kevin James?
No wonder these times were called the stupid times. Kids were meant to be brought up half retarded in that day and age. Yeah, cartoons are retarded these days too but at least you think and have to somewhat understand wit.
@Twizzlleerr I always kind of got the feeling that this show wasn't really... the bee's knees... but I'd argue there's plenty of good cartoons to choose from nowadays. Not retarded at all! Not necessarily super-intellectual, but who needs that?
Please all of the 'politically gotta be corrects' would you give the list of the kinds of cartoons you recommend for our young minds... please... and let's have a laugh together!
Man brings back childhood memories.... I used to get a 'whuppin' for watching this in the morning before going to elementary school... I would always be late! I couldn't tear myself away from the TV show gigantor!
This was an action cartoon that kids could sink their teeth into. Jimmy Sparks was only 12 or 13 years old, but he could drive a car, carry a semi automatic pistol under his school boy uniform jacket, and he controlled Gigantor. Talk about kid enpowerment. Plus, it was incredibly VIOLENT. In one episoid Gigantor and his party were responded on troop ships to Antartica to stop a terrorist threat. The enemy sub torpedoed all the ships. Gigantor and his party lived. 1000s of Soldiers died.
WOW! What trip to see this again after about 40 years! I cam say this and Buggs Bunny were probably all I watched back in the mid sixties as a small child. I think this was my favorite. We didint even have sesame street back then. Or anything else. It was a few shows including the Banana Splits but I was already starting to get too old for them when they came around.
I asked everyone if they could remember this cartoon & they all said no. Made me think I imagined it, until I finally found this clip. There goes 40 years of schizophrenia !!! Or so they say........
My brother and I are in our fifties, and we still sing this song when we get together. He liked Gigantor the best, and I liked Astro Boy and Kimba the best........
How fun! I loved this show -- used to race to the (itsy bitsy) TV screen to kiss that "hot" boy (whose plaids match no matter how he moves!). Ah, the memories!! Thanks!

I never watched this show but dammnn I fucking hated this song when I was in middleschool-highschool lol Every morning my dad would turn on the tv and this song was on in adult swim and it was every morning at 5 am :/ I just hated listening to this song in the morning hahahaha! I'm so glad I finished high school this year lol Whats this show even about?
@jwbullardxxiii ....and then the interviewer would reply, "So what?? I was in the band that scored the theme song for The Phantom Agents"...hahahaha...I laughed so hard with your comment dude. You made my day
And all thru my childhood and even up till now I'd been singing, "Gigantor is a RACING robot, dah dah, you'll come back"!!! LOL Oh well,,,, Almost had it hahaha
The infancy of Anime, circa 1960 (or thereabouts). From right about the same time as Astro Boy. Cartoon Network used to show Gigantor and Astro Boy at around 5 AM; not sure if they still do.
@elc1960 nope, they don't. i used to watch them in the morning on adult swim questioning if it was a "clean" show as i watched it, eating breakfast. loved it and all day i'd be singing "giGANtor!" epic stuff XD

This show I remember when I was only 8 years old (1966) was carried over WMAR-TV 2 Monday-Friday mornings @ 7:30 A.M. (Before School) and a 6th showing on Saturday mornings at 9;30 A.M. brought back many memories!
this is true anime right here i remember when i first saw this and after a while i was thinkin that i might not ever see it again then when toonami showed it on one of there speicals Giant Robot Week i was happy as hell

This show I remember when I was only 8 years old (1966) was carried over WMAR-TV 2 Monday-Friday mornings @ 7:30 A.M. (Before School) and a 6th showing on Saturday mornings at 9;30 A.M. brought back many memories!

I have fond memories of watching this on TV as a kid in the 60s. Now I own some of the LaserDisc volumes. I love the opening. :)
STAY AWESOME! :)

I still remember the words to that theme song. What a beauty it was too. All I ever wanted was to have Gigantor to play with.
