Def Leppard never sold out and I can't figure out where in the world that could even come from in the remotest parts of anyone minds.... ?????? That one loses me! I could see Metallica might have sold out in a sense that they changed their music style completely after Justice but Def Leppard never did... That's simply not true at all! Great band - Def Leppard! Always was and always will be!! Great!

Actually, Def Leppard have changed and experimented, and have got caught up in the trends a bit, but that doesn't make them a bad band. As long as they believe in and are comfortable with what they are doing, and more importantly, they still make music you enjoy. In that respect, they still are and indeed will always be a great band. Same goes for Metallica. Their follow-up to And Justice For All was a great album regardless of what their personal motivations might have been.

@spiralmetal They actually created trends. When you hear Def Leppard, you immidiately know it's Def Leppard, unlike loads of hair bands from the 80's, I can't tell a lot of those bands apart, they sound too much the same....followers.

Yeah, Def Leppard is a special kind of band and no doubt had its influence on the music industry. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to whether I enjoy the music.  Grant it some of the 80s bands may not have been as original as Def Leppard, but I enjoyed their music nevertheless.
